Heya guys, hope this video is ok, not the weapon and armour tests I know, but I'm currently away from my PC, but will be back on the 14th to continue work on the weapon and armour videos!
You should take the time to get a proper Rank 5 of all profiles pictures in comparison to Rank 1. Also, to clarify: Tech Armor is 30 damage reduction **AT ALL TIMES** and Cloak Dodge does cause enemies to lose aggro. Also, Space Gandalf is shit against any decently Armored enemy, Space Ninja all the way!
What does Cloak dodge do then? I've noticed they definitely re-aggro when you de-cloak, but in the (admittedly few) encounters I've used it in, it seemed to buy me a split moment or two more than the regular biotic or jumpack dodge. With the regular they seem to just continue shooting through the whole animation. Maybe my memory is off.
That's just it: It's meant to give you that split-second to draw (or exhale) a breath without forcing you to hit a Pause button and break the momentum of the fight. Also Xaine, thank you none the less for this video which is still very helpful.
Dude. That freaking story though. Had me literally LoLing at the end. Seriously sitting there wondering "where is this going and what does this have to do with profiles?" 10/10 You should always go Vanguard.
yeah I did 3 play troughs of the first Trilogy, first as a vanguard, then as an infiltrator, and one last time as an adept and I figured some stuff out. Vanguard is fun Infiltrator is better Biotics are overrated. Biotics don't work on shields and the kinetic effects don't work on armored enemies whereas tech powers have an answer for every eventuality. Biotics are flashy but mostly worthless against the harder enemies in the game.
The Explorer's biotic blink actually lets you pass through thin barricades and walls. Though that does mean higher chances of falling through the world. I was spamming it to get to the merchant on EOS and phased through the building wall, but couldn't do it again when I tried to. It's very picky on what does.
Explorer is actually really good, fairly tanky, highly mobile, good all around damage, mix it with 2 piece hyper guardian, 2 piece pathfinder armor, and the energy drain power with the hp regen morph from team tech passive
what the hell is this hate on dave? dave is awesome! when i first started playing i started as a vanguard because duh, i've played ME before, but i quickly evolved into dave when i got all my biotic abilities and dabbled into tech passives. this is when i noticed that dave is a vanguard with buffs so he NEVER EVER FUCKING DIES. i mean even the teleport alone makes dave viable!
HAHA Dave. What an epic tale, and more fantastic are his last words. When I first got ME:A, and I realized that I could play as a vanguard AND an infiltrator in the same playthrough, I jumped to make that happen without even glancing at the other profiles. Since ME1 I have always played once on normal with a Vanguard to get a feel for whatever new mechanics there are, then insanity with an infiltrator to get tactical and beat the game for achievements. ... That did not work as planned here. The abilities are just too watered down, even at lower levels. BUT I did discover something. At least in normal playthroughs, Dave is quite fun. Yes, if you want to actually do damage go vanguard. I knew I should have known better. Eventually I respecced away from the infiltrator and everything else and went full vanguard. But once I had my core abilities maxed out, and I was using zero other profiles. Dave was all but forgotten for several hours worth of gameplay. Then, I discovered my first architect. So my vanguard shotgun, puny pistols for the decreased weight, and biotics were barely reaching it. I knew I was powerful enough to take it on if I could just reach out and touch it! I had a precious couple of skill points I had been saving for some biotic passive ability when I suddenly remembered... Dave! It wasn't much but I had to try. I invested those last couple of points into a tech tree (the VI) and whipped out my sorry Carnifex II. I switched over to Dave with one last desperate idea: NO retreat. MUST outlast. Where before I had been weaving myself around that maze of cover (that you might not get for your first architect folks but I'm not spoiling a thing!) and barely surviving my run to the other side for fresh ammo, now the entire playing field was opened up! I started messing with it's head, throwing my VI in this direction, biotic blinking through cover in that, grabbing ammo and fake back blinking behind cover before unloading those 6 priceless worthless shots. It took a solid 45 minutes and a whirlwind of tactical dodging but I succeeded without having to go level up or spend research I didn't have on new guns and then come back to the fight. Call it weaker, (which it is) and call it situational (which it is also that) but I now run the Explorer as a backup to my Vanguard. I'll be making that infiltrator one day soon as well, when I get around to completing my first go round. I anticipate the explorer making a sidekick appearance there as well. If nothing else, I switch to it now when I know I'm going to be doing less fighting and more walking. For quests and such. It's nothing if not a tad more mobile. Havarl saw a lot of Dave. Thank you for reading my long comment! I hope this has brought some entertainment and the slightest nugget of experience to someone out there. Xaine, keep up the good work man! You're helping even extremely seasoned Bioware veterans sift and weigh gameplay choices. I appreciate your showcases most of all as I've been too busy recently to play a lot or spend a long time testing.
+Hunter Spence That was rather entertaining! Like a mini epic short story that turned to David Vs Goliath (weak reference but it's there). And thanks man, I appreciate your words, hopefully I'll continue to be of use.
Hunter Spence I beat my first architect using only Soldier profile. As a ME player,I will always choose classic gunfire and brute force instead of tech and biotics. Plus, the Soldier has MARKSMAN'S BONUS. Since I kill weak enemies almost instantly, imagine how much damage my weapons rack up. So yeah. Soldier beats all profiles!!! 💀☠️☠️☠️💀
Nah, Dave should've gone Sentinel. It improves durability and makes biotic and tech powers more effective and wastes less than Explorer. It's better in every way unless you like the blink.
To be honest, I have not paid attention to the Passive Buffs of any Profile, but more about the bonus abilities. Primarily, I use Engineer, as the EMP Drone stuns melee opponents that have gotten too close, and may even Prime and/ or Detonate combos; unconfirmed. And while I have not used 'Dave', being able to pass thru solid objects could be handy, as in the final battle. While I do not have a fave Profile, I quite like taking Engineer with Tactical Cloak, Energy Drain, and Overload; the Tech combos may not be the heavy hitter, but seems to work on all targets. I use Tac Cloak with everything, as my RL reflexes are too poor to Run & Gun style gameplay; just vanish and find a new nest.
In my first two campaigns, I have been primarily using Tech and Biotics for Active powers; Combat is mostly Passive abilities except for a couple of recent adds. But due to my lack of coordination, Vanguard and melee in general will not be my area of focus; Engineer, Sentinel, and Adept have been useful thus far.
The thing with ME:A is you don't really have to go XYZ. You can switch them on the fly. I like Sentinel for Remnant and when I can see the enemy from far away(for sniping) and then go Vanguard when its time to get up close. I'm just starting my second play through, so I plan to mix that up some more and try others but the fact is you are really never fixed into one class or really ever have to dedicate to one
I just wish they had set up a way to quick change profiles (instead of making you go through the menu) and made it so you could set individual powers to the individual profiles. I'd love to be able to quick change my play style depending on my circumstances.
Actually, you can switch profiles and powers mid-combat without having to pause; when you pull up your weapon menu your Favorties is available; hit whatever button the game says will switch to that and the screen will switch to show your saved favorites. You have to spend some time to set them up manually, but once you do so you're free to switch them. The downside is that all abilities will go on cooldown (even grenades, though it's only a one-second cooldown), so if you have to switch try expending all your powers first then do the change. Also, if you have a power set that uses Energy Cells such as Omni-Grenade, you'll need to have a profile active in using power cells to access it, but with this you can easily switch between to do it, plus cooldowns can happen between fights. I'm currently running Sara as what I call a biotic scout-sniper. Vanguard based, but more sniper and AR. As versatile as a Lawbringer, and as tough as one once she's into melee, yet she's able to stand afar and snipe too (esp. with a nice angaran Isharay) and a VHS N7 Valkyrie Auto is all the CQB firepower she needs since it reloads. A shotgun is nice to have, but not really needed thanks to how OP said Valk is.
I'm that strange combo of infiltrator and vanguard who yells get rekt as I jump on your face from that near by roof I have no business being on after ventilating the skulls of your guards😜
Yeah... one of the great things in Andromeda's fluid skill tree/loadout was theability to pump cloak and charge into one character. Tho Sophie Ryder is a more chill character, instead of yelling "get rekt" she prefers "woosh" and putting a Vakarsh through the enemy. Sid often calls her mean as Azula tho as they spent a ton of time watching retro vids together.
I was vanguard for 20 + levels. just got a bit boring and op. since I've started blinking, I can't go back. I feel l I keep half Nightcrawler half iron man. ps I blink every 1.6 seconds whether I. need to or not LOL
That Future Gandalf comment got you a like good sir! Also I personally like Explorer but that ALL about the blink... most of my Stats are in Tech/Biotic though. :P
How do you feel about explorer having biotic power damage? neither of the other 2 biotic profiles have it weirdly, unless I'm missing something. For a tech player, I used to play engineer, but found the turret/Vi kinda poor, the turret half the time refusing to deploy or the VI refusing to get LoS or move in, even ignoring direct command to move in. Infiltraitor has probably the best tech recharge speed and improves gun play, which feels like it scales better on higher difficulties, skill combos also feel shockingly weak past lvl 40. Maybe if they make the VI more aggressive it would feel more worth sticking to engineer
+Biff Bash Bosh I expect the biotic damage is for balance to make the explorer usable in comparison. Also, the profile buffs become quite different is usage value when you start adding fusion mods, that recharge means little with fusion mod of adrenaline
Can you switch profiles during gameplay? I've gone Biotic but would like to unlock Scapper so I can switch when I want to get in someones face... Is that possible?
Heh, I think you short-shrifted Explorer just a tad. xD I thought of it as a bit of a beefed up Sentinel. I played mostly as an Explorer from the middle to end of my 1st playthrough. I'd switch between Infiltrator, Sentinel and Adept earlier on 'cause I like the extras (multiple biotic explosions, tech armor, seeing enemies through walls). My favorite power lineup was Overload, Singularity and Incinerate. Covers all bases there with shields, armor and unarmored crowd control. Plus, you get biotic, tech AND fire combos with it. Pretty awesome...if you like powers and aren't just a gun nut. ;-)
When I started the game I wanted to go vanguard - but could not replicate the ME3 feeling of charge > nova combos. I finally settled with sentinel - because without teammates to control & no combos combat is not that fun....
did you really not like the explorer? i mean ok the stats aren't that great, but biotic blink alone makes it my favorite profile. i've finished my 109hr playthrough using almost only explorer cause whenever i tried something else i would jump or dodge agains barriers and boxes all the time cause i'm so used to blinking through everything... or in an intense firefight blink forward through my cover, use one or two abilities, fire a few shots and blink back through and behind a crate or something to recharge shields... i just love it
+Nils Winkelmann it was largely just a junior section, but i do think its better to focus than spread thin. I see explorer as more of a quality of life profile than pure utility, though of course it is not useless
hahahahahaha, oh man i've been watching your stuff on Andromeda, its been informative and helpful in my play through. (Infiltrator all the way!). That story at teh end though had me fucking dying, it was great! Also, I don't know if its just in my head or not, but I like running energy drain, turbo charge, and tactical cloak with infiltrator, do you know if activating turbo while cloaked boosts its damage or not? It seems to for me, or the destroyers are made outta freaking paper apparently.
+Arroh Kujati i can't confirm this, not just yet anyway as I'm not back at my computer atm. I will say there really aren't many mechanics that don't stack, so it's likely. Glad you're enjoying the added whimsy. Putting a little more me in some of these vids hehe
Jack Bauer all the way ! Been in love with it ever since I got my Isharay with Tier X Penetration Mod. It's just a short version of "fuck your cover, I'm getting my headshot". Renamed my Isharay to Penetrator, this baby can blow the head clean off an Anointed through 2m thick cover. Also, Dave sounds so terribly familiar mate, struck a nerve somewhere :P (Any chance he's related to Carlin's Uncle Dave ?)
Could you make a video around solid single player builds? There's so many possibilities, and the lack of a "firing range" is hard to test all of the powers.
Biotic blink does not make you go further, it makes you go straight through walls. You can charge, melee a fool in the face and then vanish back through solid cover as fast as you can mash the button. I have a hard time living without it now for anything other than sniper builds

me too because the blink lets you dodge through some obstacles useful when in or near cover and enemy gets behind you allowing you to get to the other side of cover fast.
Me blocking you won't do that, it only hides your comments from me. My videos are super easy to tell from other peoples the thumbnail format is one of 2, either the one on this vid with mass effect logo on left and blue wording to the right of it, or the second type for the livestreams that is mass effect logo on left, live in top right corner and xaines world at the bottom with a number just above it to the left. I make them recognisable for a reason. If you stop watching my vids and watch other things, they'll very quickly drop off

"Should've went vanguard." Dammit thats so accurate :'1

The combat drone is a free primer when it explodes.

@@jebosamvasjako dont know
From now on the Explorer profile will be known as the "Dave" profile, LOL
Best yet, 100 hours of research on DPS which I enjoyed top trumped by a story about Dave!
Once you get the Fusion mod of adrenaline (power recharge on kill) soldier profile really shines.
I haven't seen that one. What's it reduce in effectiveness?
+Kyle Huxtable it reduces recharge time on powers, but if you're species to kill fast with strong power or weps its ignorable

+phil layton lmfao, over reaction? But each to their own lol, have a nice life :)
could u block me please? still have your vids on my feed
