Umbara was basically the clone wars Vietnam. It's dark, their use of dropships resembled the use of helicopters in vietnam, the fog, the hostile enviroment, etc.
Yeah, it was pretty tense. :o I really loved that whole arc. :) Check out Battle of Jabiim if you want some more battles like that. It's in a comic but still pretty brutal. I think Palpatine called Jabiim the "greatest loss of the Republic" and it seemed like they almost lost the war through it.
The awkward moment when the 212th was known for their skilled pilots, and yet the pilot on Kenobi's ship loses control and basically kills everyone, while the 501st pilot gains control and saves baiscilly everyone except for him
Certified_ Cyclone he's dead so I don't think he'll mind? If that were a real soldier you were referring to that would be horribly disrespectful and anyone in their right mind would slap you. However, this is a fictional character, so it doesn't matter. Way to badmouth said fictional character though.
I'd like to expand upon the Umbara assault. It really shows the level of competency of the 501st veterans at this stage of the War. They've learned all the lessons they need to the hard way, from 1st and 2nd Geonosis especially, on how to launch a dropship attack: 1) Integrated Fighter Support, the Z-95 Headhunter flights making their slashing attacks against Vulture Droids and Tri-Fighters not only open the corridor for the Gun Ships, but also provide top cover, preventing the Seps from diving on them. 2) Shorten the Vertical, the 501st Gun Ships spend much less time flying at altitude to their targets and instead dive toward the ground and continue their assault at low altitude (tree top level or lower). This cuts the time for them to be targeted and neutralized by the Umbaran's flak batteries, interceptor aircraft or ground fire. 3) Quick Deployment of Advance Tactical Assets, the AT-RTs deployed have a vital role in of clearing the backfield of any hidden enemy elements that can threaten the eventual landing zone and provide an immediate reserve for the infantry. 4) Suppression of target, Offloading and Dispersal. The actual landing phase is handled quickly in the face of enemy fire and just as quickly the Gun Ships are out. This avoids the Wagon Circle, like at 2nd Geonosis, and frees up the Gun Ships to act as close air assets, or extraction if things get dicey.
Hey Geetsly, The Z-95 and Y-Wing pilots aren't unamed last I heard. The Y-Wing survivor was Engle and the Z-95 pilot was Killer. That's what I've seen on different sites. Nut sure if they're confirmed though.
I think the regular clone troopers from Captain Ordo's mission to destroy that Separatist canon were ARC trooper potentials, and they finally became ARC troopers eventually.
That Z-95 pilot at 5:40 actually pulled a maneuver that is extremely underrated in my opinion, like it's super effective but we barely see anyone using it. You get chased by the enemy so slow down for a quick moment and turn the tables

IamDeadToast pal, while the Normandy paratrooper landings were completely planned out, they were fucked up something awful. No one was where they were supposed to be.
The Rogue Knight Yet, even with that, Normandy was a strategic masterpiece compared to the bungling of Umbara. Krell barely needed to do anything, since Republic strategists seemed intent on screwing the clones over in the worst way.
+the rogue knight lmao what. You have a claim for that? The russians didnt enter nazi germany until 1945, so they would've had to walk through germany.
keks baron wow, sorry, I typed that in a rush and didn't even think about it. Thanks for pointing that out. However, it did sort of happen, but the man I had been thinking of was captured and his prisoner convoy was raided by russians, if memory serves. Of course, that's probably not totally true either, my memory is awful. And I'm very very tired today.
"Man those pilots in Umbara were really something else. They got us to where we needed to be. Through the fog and fire they got us safely to the ground. Me and everyone in the 501st owe them our lives"-Kix
+Ian Reay Not even a question for me. Clones hands down. Look at the shit these clones pull off! It isn't THAT far off to say that this was just a regular day for them. And from a more logical standpoint, it would still be clones. Clones were literally BRED for war, while the Tie pilots were just random people who passed a qualification test and got some training.
Although Imperial Navy pilots have better life support systems than the Rebel pilots. Which helps a lot when you're basically flying the Star Wars version of the A6M-2 Zero. Fast, great manueverability, but get hit and you're dead.
When the Y-Wing explodes when it crashes into the hangar, I was like "Well, they're dead." but later "Yes!" when the pilot was pulled out. I also love the Hypori ARC pilot.
Good question! :) It's important to remember that clones are specialists. A clone pilot like Oddball would be training for that position for the majority of their lives. Clones had phenomenal trainers, a great simulation program, and creativity. Second would be the droids probably. Droids are deadly in that they can calculate things incredibly precisely. I forget where I read it (probably in Republic Commando), a clone mentioned that droid snipers were literally the worst because if they had a lead on you, you were very much a dead man. They didn't miss. Pity we didn't see more of that utter ferocity in the show. :L Rebel and tie pilots are about evenly matched (at #3) for me. Both are coming from around the same generation of people. Maybe they grew up watching the Republic defend their homeworlds. Maybe they themselves fought alongside the CIS or GAR in the Clone Wars. The main problem being that after the CIS and GAR were largely disbanded and changed (or killed off) there wasn't a lot of people left able to teach the younger generations how to fly (same with building ships too). People probably didn't want to showcase their skills because they were afraid of the Empire or Rebellion drafting them (they were probably tired of war). This is why you get people like Boba Fett who were practically unstoppable because he had training from his father and from other bounty hunters.
212 had the best pilots. But that one vid you showed was 2 totally different situations. The 212 pilot had lots complete control of everything as the the 501 pilot still had some things working
We fight in this war not only for our brothers back home, but for the Republic and Because no one else will, When the Seppies attacked kamino attacked our home, the Republic not only won but showed them that the Republic will not fall!!!! that the Republic will not fail!!! We will not fall this day for we WILL show them what Clones can really do!!! for the Republic Will NOT FALL!!
For those wondering where the Z95/ Y Wing show up, its Season 5 ep8 Bound for Rescue around the 6 minute mark. I honestly didn't remember that epic moment and am very dissapointed with myself! Love the Clone pilots!
to this day it annoys me that people bash that 212th pilot. no one really does understand that he had less time to recover and as such set his bird down in better condition. the one with the 501st pilot is shown at relatively high altitude due to them being no where near the lz and as such he has more time. meanwhile the 212th pilot is at drastically lower altitude due to them being closer to the lz and on final approach when their hit. he gets so much shit just because he "failed" to crash land his gunship at around 100 or less meters compared to he obviously 500 or more meter crash descent of the 501st. for comparison. 501st- 9:38 212th- 10:08
7:45 same mini series in the earlier battle were the Arc troops gunship went down and the pilot calmly crash it into the ground, saving all of the arc troops
One of the questions that been bothering me for like eternity. When those ARCs were rescuing jedis, one of them had that turret-like gun on his chest. What the hell is it?
It's called the reciprocating quad blaster otherwise known as the Cip-Quad it was a mobile experimental weapons platform used during the clone wars. You can find it on the wiki.
Alex Grey They don't go down, it's just that our point of view is locked to that of the remaining pilots, reason why we get the fealing that they're going down
I assume they go down (relative to themselves, that is) because the likely dead pilot would be slumped over the wheel, and assuming starfighters use the same controls as airplanes or such, that would mean they are pushing the wheel down, which is the down control, as opposed to the up control of pulling the wheel towards yourself.
i love how in the OG clone wars movie it shows all clones as elites, but they where all competant and would really show how their fewer numbers are made up bu fare greater skill

JMM Productions being trained by a mandolorian was basically the same as being one.
