Edit: I was totally wrong when I mentioned not saving to the FreeMCboot memory card, not sure how I mixed it up but thats my bad! It does use a ton of space on the memory card however, so I would recommend investing in a good second memory card for save data. I will show off saving to the memory card in a video I am about to upload titled 'Frequent Statements and Video Corrections', watch for it! ✌️😎

i wish i had this back in the day, having to patch a 007 nightfire iso and burn it, then having to do a full swap exploit after booting the ps2 with 007 was hit or miss and such a pain.
i remember going through 4 dvd-r discs because a burn would screw up or the patch didnt apply right. but finally i had freeMCboot installed and went to work. 🙂

If you’re on a later version slim (iirc 80000-most 90000s), you won’t be able to boot immediately into a modded firmware, and for some reason late slims don’t support FMCB, so you’ll have to look for third-party patches/fixes like Funtuna (a fork of Fortuna for slims). May have changed in the 2-3 years since I’ve modded my 9000x but I used Funtuna as my memory card payload of choice. You can still save data onto the mmc as well, as the payload is a corrupted save.

Used a memory card and a ps1 game you set as a boot disk for the hack to start. Ran a cogswap file on the ps2, put in a high toc game in and wait for the disk on the screen to change colors. Then, use a cut credit card to pull the DVD drive open and hot swap to your backup. Close the dvd drive and play lol. Nice thing was you didn't have to have modified isos, you could use a unmodified 1to1 copy.
