The analog button was for PS1 games. It turned off the analog controls because some older PS1 games wouldn’t work with them turned on. To get around this, later PS1 and PS2 controllers had a manual button you needed to press to make the controller work with those games.
@vlc-cosplayer because old ps1 controllers without analog sticks were technically digital controllers. So when you turn the analog off on the newer controllers it shows up as digital. This was during an era where nothing was really streamlined well into 1 well understood language. Everything was proprietary and came with its own quirks.

There is a ton of more graphically demanding titles on the PS2. The only thing that is a big issue running a port of minecraft on it, is the severe lack of system and video memory as it only has 32MB of system memory and 4MB of video memory and Minecraft needs a lot more memory to run with all its gameplay features. The PS2's memory is just too small to run a draw distance even comparable to the lowest settings in the retail versions of minecraft and it leaves no memory left for the monsters and NPCs. For comparison the PS3 had a proper version of Minecraft but that console had 512 MB of system memory to work with.
The analog button has a pretty simple explanation. It toggles the the analog sticks. When it’s off the analog sticks don’t work and when it’s on it allows you to use them. I think the main use case was if you were playing a ps1 game on the ps2 you could toggle the sticks off.
so the reason the ANALOG button is there is for the PS2's backwards compatibility. while all PS2 games had analog functionality automatically turned on while booting up, most PS1 games didn't. this is because, for the first three years of the PS1's lifespan, it didn't even HAVE an analog controller. when they eventually introduced the DualShock in 1998, a lot of people didn't upgrade and stuck with their D-pad only controllers, so post-DualShock PS1 games were built to be able to be played with both a standard digital controller AND the DualShock, with the digital mode being the default. so those who owned the DualShock had to press the ANALOG button on the controller to enable functionality. this was carried over to the PS2 controller because of the backwards compatibility. if the ANALOG button wasn't there, then all PS1 games would run in d-pad only mode, and games like Ape Escape wouldn't have even been playable because they REQUIRE the sticks. so the button is there so you can use the sticks while playing your old PS1 library on the PS2.

Only a couple of SNES carts saves don't last more than a few days, all else is about a decade older than this PS2 of yours and still works fine!

the analog button was more of a backwards compatibility feature than anything else, before the dualshock controller was released, games didn't use an analog stick, but when it was released most games followed, the analog button allowed you to turn on the analog feature for those games or to turn it off and play the old way with the directional pad, some games in the PS2 used the analog primarily but would let you disable it and make the directional pad the primary imput, it was rare for PS2 games but fairly common for PS1 games, keep in mind that games that didn't support the analog stick would not work with it even if the light was on, an example of this would be Dino Crisis and Crash Bandicoot which didn't incorporate analog sticks untill the third entry in the series and thats the reason the awfully sounding Resident Evil Director's Cut Dual Shock Ver. came into existance. That button's got quite the story...
if you get stick drift on a ps2, it sometimes can happen because the sticks weren't central when plugging in the controller or turning on the console. Whereever they are during those moments is where the center is considered to be.

Just for those of you who are also wondering, the analog button on the PS2 controller turns off the analog sticks
Next video: can a water bottle run minecraft
Great video like always 😊 I found a minecraft video game at a pawn shop for 10 dollars
Funny seeing you so surprised and thrilled the PS2 starts up and the memory card still has saves on it - I have my PS2 and its cards, PSX/PS1 and its cards, N64 and its save files on carts plus on cards also SNES with saves in the carts that almost all still work! Only a couple of SNES carts saves don't last more than a few days, all else is about a decade older than this PS2 of yours and still works fine!
PS2 got me into gaming. Still live this console.
It’s a great video even after skipping 70% of it.
Btw, no need to buy anything if you have a working way to write to DVDs 😅
This video starts at 09:45
Thumbnail mistake, that is the cover for Nintendo legacy versions.
cart wait for Minecraft on PS1
That analogue button on the PS2 controller, turned on and off the analogue sticks. But not all programs like you turn it off.
Pretty sure it was also there to turn on and off the analog buttons, not just the sticks. The analog buttons being all the face pieces since they were all pressure sensitive
Next video: can the PLAYSTATION 1 play Minecraft? *im curious will you be able to run Minecraft on the ps1 it’s really old let alone running home brew*
I think the process might be similar to this one as they are both old Playstation devices, meanimg it should work
ahhaha you'd be suprised
@@noaharkadedelgado no i understand its obviously not THAT easy but like i dont think it might be all too different either yk
@@Cam3oGam1ng This is the dumbest thing ive read in a loooong time
the analog button was more of a backwards compatibility feature than anything else, before the dualshock controller was released, games didn't use an analog stick, but when it was released most games followed, the analog button allowed you to turn on the analog feature for those games or to turn it off and play the old way with the directional pad, some games in the PS2 used the analog primarily but would let you disable it and make the directional pad the primary imput, it was rare for PS2 games but fairly common for PS1 games, keep in mind that games that didn't support the analog stick would not work with it even if the light was on, an example of this would be Dino Crisis and Crash Bandicoot which didn't incorporate analog sticks untill the third entry in the series and thats the reason the awfully sounding Resident Evil Director's Cut Dual Shock Ver. came into existance.
That button's got quite the story...
if you get stick drift on a ps2, it sometimes can happen because the sticks weren't central when plugging in the controller or turning on the console. Whereever they are during those moments is where the center is considered to be.
My boy said just like taylor swift😂
The Analog button disables the Thumbsticks for when you're playing a PS1 game that didn't support the Thumbsticks
the analog button on the ps2 controller turns the thumbsticks on and off
The analogue button literally enables the analogue controlls 😭
My favourite was the part where the 18 year old PlayStation 2 played Minecraft.
there is a minecraft mod with the internet, minecraft on minecraft
The ps2 could have gotten a port of Minecraft if it was discontinued 2 years later
The modded ps2 minecraft look like it was on a budget
yooo the video getting more views and more views but slowly
yea thats because he bought the fake FMCB cards with outdated software :( I made my own FMCB card and i have it organized how i see fit which is pretty cool.
But it is cool to mod a ps2
The analog button makes it so you can play ps1 games that support the analog sticks
I may not have a wife but I don't have to lay down my PS2. So, there.
You win some you lose some 🥲
analog button switches beetwen 0/1 button press and "analog" which reads how hard you press it :)
I cant tell you how excited I got to see Ratchet and Clank the be the first thing on that memory card
There is no proof the PS2 sold 158 million or something like that. It was only recently “established” when an executive claimed on the media
ps2 hardware is 26 years old actually
Man I remember the first time I'm making my own FMCB memory card, it's a good thing back then the laser still works despite the ps2 already being so old :v
When the game isn’t really Minecraft but a fan made one with custom textures honestly makes me feel unsatisfied.
