    Just got the unit after a six month wait. By far the most comprehensible digital mixer on the market. Takes some time to get to know the navigation of the software, however, once you are comfortable with the interface, you are able to unlock all of the premium features this product offers.

      Came across this in my research and the reviews i read - virtually every comment - said the wifi connection keeps dropping and they should have used bluetooth - how are you getting on with it ? I was reading the review of the 1010 music bluebox and this was mentioned as being higher spec . Hope it's working for you !

      @@twiglet2214 Bluetooth would have terrible range and is also not suited to run a web interface over. The guy says that it is possible to connect it to another access point so that's what would be the best thing to do, connect a decent access point to the utp port, or it may even be possible to connect the mixer to an existing network. You will most likely need to do some setup in the network configuration of the mixer.

    I am looking forward to start working with this one. Getting a home studio together and this video sold me this interface to be the heart of it. Plus, its already sitting in a rack and bam - this is a mobile studio also... How cool is that.

    • @tuckercoughlin5238
      @tuckercoughlin5238 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Did you end up using this as an audio interface for your home studio? If so how did it go? I’m thinking of doing the same but know that these kinds of consoles are more oriented towards live stuff so im slightly worried about the quality of the mic pres.

    • @nunoandradebluesdrive
      @nunoandradebluesdrive 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@tuckercoughlin5238 well, first of all let me explain why:
      I recorded our first album with macpro, an old digidesign 002 rack unit and borrowed an old m-audio for 8 more mic pres via Adat. We love to record all at the same time ( together in a live room) so we need lots of inputs. It worked great, but old units equals old drivers. So after that I decided to start looking for a better solution..and looking for updated drivers to install later is a nightmare. My choices at the time were: expensive soundcards with fewer inputs adding adat extra inputs (and prices go up for preamp quality) or OK soundcards with ok prosumer preamps.
      Basically for reasonable mic pre quality and quantity of pres i was looking at units like bigger focusrite and OK pres. But budget solutions are always oh well.. budget and there's the installers things again.
      As I was about to replace my laptop and enter the M1 apple..more difficult the task would be for used gear and updates..
      Surfing the web a lot, reading lots of reviews I came across this vídeo here:
      th-cam.com/video/MRtH1hhDgE4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ZHN4CuRczPW0JZDV
      ...
      and that changed it all for me.
      ...
      Then looked for presonus, Midas units 16 great designed mic inputs and.. there came the drive upgrade thing again around the corner.
      ...
      came across this soundcraft when I was looking for a used midas during covid..and found out that for the sondcraft there's no driver needed, just a web browser. the preamps are Studer designed, so no corner is cut there.. it's basically a big and extremely expensive desk without physical faders..and 24 of them with dedicated aux outs for any type of monitoring, records every track full quality to a pen drive at the same time you do on your computer... so redundant recording is a safety net. And of course by nature it's portable for live, so its portable and sturdy enough for recording at home or anywhere you need.
      ..
      I did some small recordings and the sound is superb, but I'm about to do a bigger session January/February and going to need between 16 to 18 tracks going in at the same time.

    After 2 years with the competent but limited RCF M18 I traded up to the XR18, after 5 minutes I realized you need a computer to record and even playback from the single USB "Doghouse" slot, not good for a function band we need playback on USB for convenience I don't want to carry a laptop around to gigs. Brought the XR18 back for the UI24 the next day. Virtual Soundcheck so I don't need the band to hang around and
    Multi-ttack record direct from USB stick so I can mix it afterwards and add it to our promo videos . Twice the price of both other systems and bigger in size and weight and more channels than I need but what a package. I started off on a relatively huge 8 channel Soundcraft powered mixer 20+ years ago, what a leap in tech and convenience, no more sticky with alcohol stage looms, everything from a laptop and USB. Well done Soundcraft please offer the same functionality (multitrack from USB) on the UI16 aswell.

      you connect the SC to your computer through the usb port and select the channel/s you want to listen to in your daw, im guessing you have some kind of digital input to your computer or you can use the outputs from the SC either xlr or the headphones and then line it in to your mic input if you are all out of digital inputs in your computer ;) if you don't have a DAW you can download the Cakewalk by bandlab for free from their website. The usb port types is for speed and they usually are backwards compatible ....

    With the patching feature is it possible to plug an electric guitar direct into channel 8 for example and then patch it to channel 1/2 to access the digitech effects? Or is the hi-z feature specific to the hardware in channels 1 & 2? I’m looking at doing an installation where the Ui would live in a closet with a snake running under the floor from recessed stage boxes and was wondering if I’d have the flexibility to plug in a guitar from any input on stage and patch it to 1 of those 2 channels.

    Just bought the Soundcraft MTK22 for myself thinking it would really step up the sound at shows, which it will. But then I stop and consider the cable runs with snakes and that only half the places we play will let me setup a decent mix position...now I'm looking at this and my gear sickness is just getting worse lol I dont want to give up my analog board but I also hate being side stage and trying to maintain the mix. I don't have one but have been watching demo videos and a read flattering SOS article. If you a generating beats the speed of your computer is critical and has nothing to do with the audio input latency of this unit. In fact if you are recording audio you can get away using a slower computer because it has Excellent built in dsp effects which of course do not need to be processed by your computer. You can also plug in an HDMI touchscreen and control the effects in real time and such in addition to your computer. The browser enabled interface is also fast and easy and can be used by multiple users.

    It's a good unit. However, they did forget one thing which is somewhat basic, and pretty annoying not to have - a shelf mode for EQ bands 1 and 4. You can't have shelf controls for the bass and treble unless you go into the super-limited "simple EQ" mode, and that is just too bad. That can be very helpful and I'd strongly suggest soundcraft to add it via firmware update. Otherwise, out of the four consoles of this type that I've tried (the others being behringer/midas, mackie and allen & heath) this is definitely the most full-featured, intuitive and best sounding imo.

    • @mojoemurphy
      @mojoemurphy 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've got the ui16 and it has a HPF and LPF without being on "easy EQ". That also leaves it so you don't need to use your other EQ points for shelving

    What about adjusting In-Ear monitoring by musicians? Is there a separate view for musicians? Or can musicians then mess with the general mix? :)

    • @Thetimrobertson
      @Thetimrobertson 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Any device can have access to any feature on the UI24R but, there are user access limits that can also be set up per device meaning, the drummer for example, can have access to his monitor mix but no other features of the device whilst the guitarist perhaps might have access to all monitor mixes but not the input gains leaving the FOH guy to have full access to all functions. Furthermore there is a mode called MORE ME (worth the price of entry if you ask me) and this gives a very simple view where the balance between your instruments vs the rest of the mix can be very quickly adjusted (once the whole mix has been set up) via a sort of cross fade type set up. I would recommend going to the Soundcraft website where the software is hosted from their page and you can have a good look at how the unit works.

The XLR is adapted to a 3.5mm minijack female in which his headphones goes. The problem is, that the sound is only in one of his ears, unless the inears is pulled halfway out of the female minijack cable, then its stereo. Is it a wrong adapter we're using or do you have to activate stereo aux send on the console?

      If you're running it off one xlr you are sending a mono signal to something that's expecting stereo. If you use a small headphone Amp, it will configure it to mono, if you want stereo you will need to use 2 XLR's and a headphone Amp capable of doing that.

    • @neilsnow7644
      @neilsnow7644 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use a behringer P2 headphone amp. Open it up and there is a switch from stereo to mono. Turn to mono and it will send the mono signal to both ears. The AUX outs on soundcraft are mono. For stereo you have to use 2 AUXs and pair and pan them accordingly. These units don't have enough AUXs for a full band to run in stereo.

      They have every right to do that. You've ended up with a free appraisal of this unit which has been done very well I must say. You're sitting there, enjoying this without having to pay a penny. They ( Andertons ) on the other hand have had to fork out quite a few bucks to bring this to you and others. There's no such thing as a free lunch in life - get used to it.

      @neilsnow7644 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You don't need to be connected for it to work. If the WiFi drops out while playing it doesn't affect it as the setting are already set, this is an analog board. If the battery dies on the computer you can keep playing but can't change any settings, which most bands that have dedicated sound guy would flip over. I keep my power supply near the cpu so this isn't an issue.

    • @SkyLukewater

      @@neilsnow7644 thanks. Yeh I been using it for a while now and I got the jist of it. Really its an analog board? I thought it was digital... which freaks me out because in my mind more can go wrong with digital.

    • @neilsnow7644
      @neilsnow7644 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SkyLukewater it's more like a hybrid. But the way it was explained to me was that it's digital in how it operates, but analog as far as inputs and gain structure. I have an old Yamaha digital console and you have to load every power-up each individual setting...ie. gain and routing, eq etc. The soundcraft is more like analog in that you can set it up and that's it. Maybe some tweaks for each show but that's it. Much simpler but less flexible as far as routing.

    • @harrythomas7192
      @harrythomas7192 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No need for internet service, the built-in wifi access point creates a private network. You'd use a laptop or mobile device connected to that wifi network. You can also connect a laptop directly with an Ethernet cable, or use a mouse and an HDMI monitor without any computer or mobile device at all. You could also connect a USB touch monitor and avoid the mouse. Soundcraft does make a disclaimer that the response of the UI on the HDMI output may slow down a bit when recording, or doing other undefined tasks. In short, if the mixer is working hard, the HDMI output may suffer a bit of lag. Here's what the manual says: "HDMI Connector
      Supports HDMI Video standard
      Complete Mixer Web Interface is displayed on HDMI screen. Please note if using DVI and VGA adaptors
      they must be active. Performance will depend on other concurrent functions which are being used in the
      mixer. (eg. while recording to USB MTK stick you may see a slow down in screen update)"

    • @lancepage1914
      @lancepage1914 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wifi and internet are not the same. Wifi is only a transporter of an internet connection from a modem. In short the answer is No. You can connect to wifi from a device where the wifi is not connected to the internet. This is how you set up a router to work with a modem to get the internet working in the first place.

  • @andrewrickard

    Nice run down, but in reality there are some glitches for eg the 2.4 g wifi crashes and not recoverable without restarting the mixer when someone uses another 2.4 g receiver like a wireless guitar dongle.
    Also when attempting to use 2 UI24R mixers to get more tracks they claim you can control both from one device via cascading, but that only works by switching between 2 views... So doesn't really help at all. And.. you still have to use 2 channels on the host mixer to bring in the audio from the remote mixer... I wanted to have the remote mixer brought in as if the mixer was now 40 channels... So to have for examples mute groups across some channels on each mixer... That being said..it's still pretty good...

    • @JamarConley
      @JamarConley 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I run an sm7b without additional gain addons. I get nice clean gain out of it. The tricky thing about it is how the gain works. You need to crank your preamp up and slowly daily it back. I noticed that around 85% gain is the sweet spot. Anything under isn't enough and anything over can peak and add too much noise floor.

    40:30 The guy nonchalantly lied about USB stick formatting, "...just FAT32, standard...". In 2020 FAT32 is NOT standard for moderns HDDs and big flash drives, and the unit does not recognize anything except FAT32. Windows doesn't support FAT32 anymore for any media larger than 32GB (which is actually quite small these days) and you have yo use 3rd party software to format to FAT32. Then of course there is file size limit, and the guy never even mentioned it. So what happens if for very long recording file size hits 4GB? Will it just fail?
