@@heroeofkonnerud No you would actually lose boost doing it that way because the air you just compressed would have to expand again to feed the big turbo. Big feeds small is correct, think about all that volume of air being compressed inside the big turbo is then compressed even more in the smaller turbo.
@@unvaxxeddoomerlife6788 Cool. I didn’t think of it like that . I just thought that the big one would have more air to compress available. And with the big one first, you would still rely on exhaust from the tiny engine to spin the huge first charger, and you would still have major lag 🤷🏻♂️ I still learn something new everyday 😅
@@unvaxxeddoomerlife6788(and I see now that I missed the point. I thought it was to eliminate lag and make it driveable, not just to get diesel levels of boost crammed in there 😂)
A correctly sized one is based around removing lag, im just getting into diesel performance and compounds are like a dark art of maths and power, but from my understanding with a compound setup you will only ever make as much power as your atmospheric turbo (the bigger of the two) can flow, so if you had a single turbo 55mm turbo and a compound setup with a 55mm turbo and say a 44mm turbo in theory both would make the same peak power while the actual power curves would be very different@@heroeofkonnerud
Primary wastegate needs to go before small turbo, into feed of big turbo uppipe. Secondary wastegate onto feed of large turbo to atmosphere or dump pipe. Controlling the primary gate opening point will be critical to the setup working. 106mm is wild. That little turbo is going to be turning some serious rpm.
This is correct, and exactly how i had mine. I also had big turbo vac line from the comp housing to the top port of the small turbos wastegate. Big turbos wastegate was referenced in the intake mid pipe between the primary and secondary turbo.
also compound turbo presure ratio minimum boost is about 45psi. usualy we take them to 90-100psi of boost. anything less than 45 isnt makign the jam you want
Just scrolling through TH-cam and saw this and thought I give it a go, first thing I hurd is an Australian talking...hum you guys over there never fail to entertain me 😅
Haven't checked you guys out in a while, but definitely looks more professional! The welding and fabrication. But also the video and editing, keep it up!
Insane but awesome. It was your first video with nick thay inspired me to boost my starlet. Now im chucking a 2zz in mine. Look forward to your next video. Love from the uk ❤.
Just imagine how spectacular this could be if you configured your compound setup correctly 😂😂😂😂 The compressor of the small turbo is supposed to feed the intake of the larger one to get it to spool
So the rest of the world is aware,, in Australia doing this and putting it on the street is considered worse than murder, rape or drug dealing. Im not kidding. The law here is based on what money the cops can make from fines
100% percent legal in the states here, as long as your not in somewhere like New York (mainly the city) or California, I always looked up to Australia but your politicians are a bunch of wacks.
this brings me to last summer when i installed a 1.9 tdi volwagen turbo on my corolla that had 4e fe engine in it. Drove it whit no oil lines as long as it lasted. good times.
@@HowToTurbo well the turbo was from diesel jetta that had 500 000 km on the odometer and the corolla didint have a roof anymore and it looked like a isis hilux anyways.
Didn'r show in the fab, but make sure to route the high pressure turbo wastegate into the exhaust connection. Otherwise this is a sequential setup, though its still doing some work!!
My wife has a habit of saying, "Why do you have so much Sh? I say, if you break something, I have the tool to fixit. A LiL OVERKILL on the " We can clearly build our own T-junction..." Gotta do what you can in the bush. Nice work.
Rig up a small 12volt air compressor, and install an air jet fitting to the turbo. This way you can artificially spool (pre-spool turbo) up the turbo at low rpm, and the engine will take over (catch up) as you accelerate.

Germany‽
Our Australian cops and road laws like in the video are actually extremely strict believe it or not
You must live here in the UK then...
@@pallepatzo I'm from Germany and the police sent me to jail for 14 days immediately after I clicked on this video.
when you install a starlet on your turbo
damn this is underrated
That’s a nice engine you got on your turbo there
And here I was thinking with the wrong T-Piece size it'd be a trip down the road to pick up a new one. Nope 😂😂🔥🔥🔥🔥💯💯💯💯
I also bought the wrong size oil drain so I had to made a tee with different size ends 😆
FINALLY!
People using the correct level of Safety Squints(tm).
Best hood ornament ever
I cant wait for the turbo setup to weigh more than the engine

Big turbo spinning little turbo is an interesting concept
Came to the comments for this. I never built a compound setup myself, but i thought the point was to use a small turbo to get the big one going🤔
