I haven't heard of 4th Impact before, but I also appreciate that they kept it real! Thank you, Fil, for "PROVING there are still 'LIVE' voices out there!" It was an awesome analysis! Keep up the good work!
So, performing live to a song originally autotuned, with technical difficulties going on, but they don't miss a step. That's gumption, professionalism, and class. Not my style of music, but I have to admire them.
You are correct sir. The one that had issues with her IEM is Irene. She mentioned this to us later. Despite that, she was professional enough to continue on despite this issue. She did a great job in handling that.
Thank you Fil. Cool analysis. 4th Impact and Halocene's versions of Bohemian Rhapsody, patterned after the original and The Peterson's version of it are probably the only ones by groups without pitch correction in existence today, now that they've pitch corrected Queen's version. There's also a live 4th Impact a cappella version. Few have had the courage or ability to do that.
I wager the tour bus and rehearsals with these vocalists are a blast. I bet they are actually really good when they can hear themselves and each other!
Thank you Phil for giving us this tutorial on auto-tune. From my listening to these ladies for several years I can not think of one time they have ever used auto-tune. These sisters have been singing together (as a group) for over 20 years and through thick and thin have stayed true to their live voices. Whether a big stage or a live stream to their fans, these amazing sisters have always kept it real. I appreciate your analysis even though I never liked this song because it does little to showcase their real talent ...which is their Harmonies.
I think they did an amazing job, especially considering the technical glitches. They were so professional. It's unlikely the audience picked up on it unless they were familiar with autotune and pitch perfection. Kudos to them for letting their natural voices shine.
Dynamite the Track wasn't "pitch corrected" though🙄💜🤭💜 The "Auto-tune" was added mid production bc it was an effect (almost like Cher - in "Believe") It was deliberately done - & done as a "Slice of Americana" In Michael Jackson stylee (As a sap to the U S Industry) Who always try to cut Bangtan out (bc they're taking over the Industry) The Bangtan Members All Sing Live - All the time (& don't need Autotune) Bang PD was trolling "The Academy" - (bc they are always flat out ignoring Bangtan) & trying to say they are "Just a manufacted Disney Chnl type thing" but Bangtan never have been so. There was no "Pitch Correction" - nor was any needed (it's a bit daft to assume otherwise tbh) I have perfect pitch (& if he went to a Bangtan Concert he'd realise they all sing v well & are uber talented🙏🏻💜🇬🇧💜
You are correct Phil Irene's IEM stopped working just seconds into the performance, but these ladies have been performing on stage for over 20 years and not much they have not seen on stage. They are known for their power vocals and beautiful harmonies. Very much you appreciate you reacting to our ladies!
Thank you for pointing out the very high technical and musical mastery of artists from a music style which is all to often artistical disregared by people of my age cohort. Sometimes it is funny for me when I watch videos were there is lots of awe and praise for all the dital production "magic" applied to synthesised and sampled sounds and disrespect to any kind of pitch correction to voice (while other voice "enhancement" methods are seemingly fine). But: thank you so much, I discoverd your (kind of) content just recently and cannot stop binging it.
Philippine singers sing live in Wish Bus, WITHOUT autotune )Filipinos abhor autotuned performances). I heard Wish Bus will be operating in S. Korea. It would be intetrsting to see BTS and other groups sing in the Wish Bus. Do try to listen to Wish Bus performances especially of SB19 (pure eargasm) I would appreciate an analysis of them from you.
@19:41 😂 Who else was LAUGHING with Fil? That was priceless! I enjoyed learning about the importance of well-functioning in-ears. I have seen performances where the artist has fiddled with their in-ears and even shot the sound man a glare or two. I didn’t realize how crucial they are to the singer on stage.
Thank you for reacting to this Phil! I never appreciated how difficult live performances can be to pull off. When I watched this particular performance I didn't realize all of the technical issues the girls were having and how they dealt with them. I've always been impressed with their musical abilities and stage presence, but I'm even more impressed now that I see how seamlessly they handled the sound equipment issues and just went on to put on a great...nonautotuned...performance.
If you want to hear 4th impact do this song in a more performer friendly situation, then listen to their “live sessions” performance. A world of difference and a better view of them as singers and performers.
Analysis with examples of currently wide definition of a "live" vocal performance. Appears it can include a mix of live with either artistically altered or added recorded vocals.
Hi, new to your channel, 4th Impact brought me here. This isn't the first time the girls have had audio trouble, over the years they have been plagued by audio problems and yet these ladies, being the professionals they are, they keep it together and plug on, (most times without anyone the wiser) singing and dancing like nothing is wrong. Once Celina got her earpiece to work properly the rest of the show went flawlessly. I had no idea that BTS had used autotune to produce this song, this is something 4th Impact has never used, while producing or on stage, they have several covers and original songs done in one take, in studio or on stage, many of the songs better than the original. Their devoted fans, called Dreamers, call lthese ladies the **Queens of Harmony** because Mylene, who is the Vocal Arranger for the group has a gift for placing her and her sisters in the right place in each song's lyrics and usually adds a fair anount of harmonies to each song, harmonies are were these ladies excel, being sisters has a lot ot do with that, so being close as they are they play off of each others leads so well. A little back story about these ladies, in 2006 and 2013 they were invited to the World Championship of Performing Arts in California, as representatives of the Philippines where they received 50 honors, mostly gold medals (36) and silver(4), plus best in their division distinctions. The girls joined the Superstar K6, in Korea in 2013, where they finished 8th and as they were about to give up, someone suggested that they try one more time, so they changed their name to 4th Power and in 2015 the girls joined the X-Factor UK, where they finished 5th and their first audition song "Bang Bang" is the most viewed X-Factor video of all time with 192 million views! During the after tour all the finalists go on, the girls were voted by audiences at every venue as the best act! They started singing as a group in 2001, to help provide food for the family table, their goal the entire time has been to make a better life for their family and that goal is still alive today, as they pursue their dream in Los Angeles California, having relocated from the Philippines back in April of 2023, creating a 5 original song album, called "Distorted" and a couple of Music Video covers, "Flowers" and "Part of Your World" Thanks for the great technical breakdown of these performances.
I'm new to 4th Impact and, for the first time, I read some comments before watching the analysis video. I'm so glad I came across your wonderful comment here - now watching Fil's analysis will be even more meaningful than usual. Thanks for posting this fine tribute and history of this band!
@@elizabethmiller7291 You are most welcome, I find that there is a lot of back story for these girls that deserves to be shared, whether it's coming from the perspective of, I just heard of these ladies or an interesting parsing one of their performances, ( quite beautifully I might add) I don't think I have ever heard one quite like this before, very detailed and accurate, so I am happy that you enjoyed my commentary for these remarkable ladies.
@@stevenclark1038 Maybe you can help me understand something ... why would singers with great natural singing voices who perform live with their natural voices want to use pitch correction/autotune on studio releases. So much artistic expression and personality is lost from a natural voice when it is manipulated by pitch correction. I can understand why singers who haven't worked at improving their voice would want to use pitch correction but I can't understand why good and great singers would want to use it and lose all of that expression????
@@elizabethmiller7291 It is for this simple reason these ladies have never nor ever wil use any of these techniques, there is simply no need for them, why fix what isn't broken.🥰
@@stevenclark1038 I guess I misunderstood ... I thought it was mentioned in Fil's analysis video that these girls used pitch correction/autotune on the EP and album that they released.
Thank you for this analysis video, Fil. My late husband requested this a few months before he passed away! I am so happy that the girls' " 4th Impact" is keeping it real in this performance. This is not my type of music, but my husband absolutely loved them and supported them for well over 10 years. He and I often debated if they were using pitch correction in this performance. Thank you for clearing that up ! 💜
Hi Fil, I must say this was somewhat painful to sit through! But I give kudos to the girls doing this performance live, attempting to sing and dance at the same time. And add in doing it with technical issues and being outside… it’s a miracle they made it through the song. The BTS version/ performance was again difficult to listen to. You could totally hear the mechanical processing going on. This was a very interesting one to take a look at and you gave it a fair and objective analysis. Debbie🦋
It's funny, but I was thinking that the song was certainly not the best thing I had heard from 4th Impact, even though it's not a group I've followed closely, but when he got to the BTS performance I thought that at least the 4th Impact performance sounded real.
@@CFWhitman Search out 4th Impact and listen to just how real and GOOD they really are. Choose any one of their covers or original songs, many performed just sitting down ....these ladies are the real deal with real talent.......just give them a listen , you wont be disappointed . Many of their covers are as good as if not better than the original song.
I listened to other performers at this festival. In addition to 4th Impact's in-ear problem, I don't think the quality of the sound system at the venue was kind to any of the artists.
Really looks like we're creating needles technical trouble for ourselves trying to match a sound. It's the "remastering" of those old rock classics that bothers me the most. Imagine autotuning the colors on a Van Gogh because it's the new Adobe Photoshop industry standard.
all pop group of Philippines are singing live while performing , , all singers i mean, , lipsync is out in the industry, , no autotune, , please do react of the SB19 , the Band behind GENTO, thier song BASINGA top on Billboard surpassing BTS butter, , visit thier Official SB19 or even Wish Bus USA or ph they are the king of PPOP and the live monster singer, rapper , all Genre songs
Dynamite was not a song I actually listened to often. I didn't "dislike" it, and it had a nice emphatic beat, but it was just a meh to me. But I always thought that the "mechanical sound" was deliberate, like Cher. Cher never really needed it in "believe", I thought she just used it to make it sound different, and "refreshing". Likewise, I thought that BTS's producer might have just like the way it sounded.
Wow, definitely looks like a tech nightmare, though I wouldn't have noticed if I heard this without the analysis. Not my personal cup of tea, but good for them for keeping it together.
Jungkook live on times square TXT stage, unreal. Alsi iheart radio live concert with livd band, hes an amazing vocalist. Check out live versions of bts, consistently amazing💜
@@ReynanteBasit I never said they don't use autotune. But you if you really want to hear their true voices, there are videos where KOREANS sing a capella, to prove that they use autotune, for added effect , for the "feel" of the song. What I like about most of our Filipino singers is that , with or without accompaniment, they can still sing songs...even challenging ones, because that's just how Filipinos love singing.
@@exlguns6417 4th Impact has never used it. I'm well educated in Auto tune thanks to Wings of Pegasus and I've heard almost everything they have on line.✌
Some really amazing singers can sing live. They are not necessarily known to Western audiences. Singers like Zhou Shen (see my other comments), Dimash, Hua Chen Yu, Sohyang, D.O., BTS (not all their songs use autotune - don't use the English version songs released for American radio/American audiences during COVID as a gauge of their live vocals), IU, and so many more. Also, you can't necessarily use broadcast performances where the show producers have control of the audio and can choose to tweak or pitch correct the audio (which unfortunately has become a standard) to determine if a singer can sing well live.
I recommend the early live performances of Mamamoo. They are known for their live stages, often singing over the backing track. Amazing vocals and harmonies, quite jazzy and funky at times. The performances from It's Live are my favorites, particularly "I Miss You".
Hello BTS has a lot of live performances as well. They perform their songs live even if the studio version does have a lot of auto tune as a stylistic preference. Not saying it’s good but just how it is on some of their songs. Hope you can take a listen at their live performances and compare with the studio “auto tuned” version. Thank you so much ☺️
I am not familiar with 4th Impact but do know the BTS version. I think they did a great job regardless of the technical issues and agree it would be interesting to hear the BTS version without any auto tune. 😊🎸🎵
@@leapark4281 I would know that if I was a fan? Should I know that? My generation grew up with the Osmonds and the Jackson 5. Did you ever hear of them? So, the only version I have heard is the auto tuned version they play on the radio. 😊🎵
The "evidence" of autotune here was him simply pointing out that Jungkook has darn-near perfect pitch. Something that perfectionists like Chris Martin and Charlie Puth have specifically said is amazing to see and work with when they've collaborated with BTS.
Enjoyed your analysis. As always learned a lot from you. Had you listened to BTS when they were on NPR’s Tiny Desk? I always wondered if this had been autotuned as well but had thought that usually performances on that show are generally not.
Lots of information to unpack. Thank you. To hear "pure" 4th Impact, try listening to their performance of "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" live at the Forte Concert. Live orchestra. No backing track. No technical glitches. Of course, as independent artists, even if they wanted to, they would never have the financial resources to hire sophisticated technical help.
Wow, love your commentary. Never noticed half the stuff you are pointing out. Thanks. Oh, but about vocals on the backing track..... um nope, fairly sure that's all live. (Absolutely sure the whistle note was live. These girls all have such volume they often have to pull the mics back a good bit.) Admittedly, they do sometimes use backing tracks with vocals turned very low. But that is mostly a matter of convenience (probably to keep costs down). This performance is from Asian Song Festival 2022 in South Korea were they were invited and are representing the Philippines. These girls routinely manage to make their 4 voices sound like a lot more than four. They also have a couple originals were some of their vocal sound effects are recorded onto the backing track. But these girls are the real deal and will often just wing it a cappella if the backing track has problems. Usually turns out fine. But seriously, it is amazing (and rather infuriating) how often the house equipment fails them whenever they do a live gig. Guess that is why they can handle it so well, they are really used to it. 😊😊😊😊
Dear Zax, You really shouldn't doubt Fil. He really knows his stuff. On Celina's whistle, it's on the backing track, obvious with how far the mic is from her mouth but the voice is still strong. Whistle notes are tricky. sometimes they just don't come so this makes sense. We should talk to the girls and ask that if the whistle doesn't come they live with it and maybe sing something else quickly. ✌
@@EdConnelly8247 But do you know Celina? She has probably the loudest whistle I have ever heard. Her range on whistle notes is not so huge yet but her volume is.
Please check out 4th Impact's you tube channel to really appreciate just how good they are. Many cover songs ( as good as if not better than the original song) and some original songs.
A big give away if their songs are auto tuned is if they sound too even. BTS’s vocal line has Very unique and distinct voices. Jungkook is good at matching his voice to the other members but they aren’t the same for each other. So when they have a track that’s too, flat? vocally, is a dead give away. Personally I prefer when their voices sound distinct but harmonious best, so Dynamite irks me for that. Best performance of it was the airport version with the live band. Wish we had that version recorded!
I love what you are doing with your ability to diagnose what is beautiful in a song. I have listened to many version's of the song 'As Time Goes By' written in 1931 by Herman Hupfield. I think the best version is done by Joni James. It just sounds better then the many other singers. The movie Casablanca would have been even better if Joni could have sung the song as the female singer to Rick. Can you tell me if I am right about Joni James voice.
Sad thing is the vocalists from BTS CAN sing. They have years and years worth of videos where they just break into bits of song during their live broadcasts. I’m old so just can’t understand the universal use of auto tune or pitch correction. But regardless, I am still a fan.
Could you do Chris Daughtry’s cover of “Bring me to life”? The version on Spotify was so noticeably pitch corrected that there was no personality left in the original performance. I was wondering if you could compare it with the initial cover he did for the musical? I’m wondering if it was pitch corrected then too, just to a lesser degree.
With the BTS video -- the first guy to sing, Jungkook, is pretty well known for having perfect or darn-near perfect pitch. Both Chris Martin of Coldplay and Charlie Puth have specifically said how amazed they are by his voice when they hear him live or when they receive audio for production -- that they don't have to fix anything hardly ever. He's the one that kept being called "obvious" autotune.
For people that don't understand what you are talking about, get a set of highly sealed headphones, play something fairly loud and sing with it, maybe even a bit quietly, record it, and then listen to it. It will sound HORRIBLE. You pitch will be all over the place, even if you have good pitch matching sense when singing. That cluster**** going on there is probably one of their worst recurring nightmares, or at least will be after that. I'm also guessing their sound guy is going to have some serious explaining to do, and should maybe even consider updating his resume....leaving that concert off, of course. :-)
Yes the sound system was a nightmare for them at show this was a show the done in Korea they was asked to perform this .there are one the best girl group I've seen in many years.i can't find anyone who comes close to them . There live show is just like they are a CD.yes her ear piece stop working but they powered right though it.
I remember seeing them on Philippines Got Talent or Britain's Got Talent but I think they used a different name. I just know they did Jesse J's Bang Bang. If I'm wrong....I'm sorry.
@@pixiestyx1766 You got it right. The girls arrived at the audition calling themselves MICA from their initials. The X Factor UK wouldn't let them use that name as there was a popular singer called Mika and the names were too similar. So, on the spur of the moment, they renamed themselves 4th Power. A couple of weeks after their audition, the producers discovered that 4th Power had already been copyrighted by a European band, so they then renamed themselves 4th Impact and they've been using that name ever since.
The first time I was aware of auto tune was listening to BTS, I didn't realise at the time that's what I was hearing, apparently KPOP think it's perfectly acceptable to use it, I think the fans would be a bit disappointed if they didn't, each to their own I suppose, I have no objection to it's use for voice effects in modern music but not just standard.
@w0rdsandMus1c By no means does BTS use autotune as a standard for their music. It is an artistic choice for them. Nor would I recommend that you view the few English songs released during the pandemic as feel-good songs for their Western fan base as indicative of their music. Those men have beautiful voices and have worked hard to sing live while dancing to ridiculous choreography at their live performances. Check out Jin singing Epiphany, JK singing Euphoria, V singing Stigma , Jimin singing Serendipity and vocal line together singing anything including The Truth Untold, Mikrokosmos, The Magic Shop, or Your Eyes Tell. The notes they hit consistently are stunning.
@@rjs722 I didn't accuse only BTS of using auto tune, I said I have no objection to a little use of it in modern music (for intentional mechanical voice) I have listened to all you suggest, they are not for me, but my opinion doesn't stop you from enjoying them 🤗
@@W0rdsandMus1cWell, thank you for being considerate. BTS is never a vocal group to begin with, none of the members can even sing when they first started. So it's hard to defend them when people judge their singing skills, or pop songs when they're not even a pop nor a vocal group to begin with🥲.
It's interesting to me that even though Jungkook was recognized by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of the top 200 vocalists OF ALL TIME, there are those who are determined to prove the only reason his (or any BTS members) voice sounds so good is because of heavy processing. People with a good ear for music can tell when vocals are being processed, and we know very well when BTS's vocals are being processed. We actually don't like that they do it at all, with the exception of stylistic choices, mostly because of the opinions of those who are determined to prove they're not that talented and because we know how good their raw live vocals are. Videos like this are part of the reason BTS fans are called toxic & rabid because we always rush to their defense, and with valid reason. The truth of the matter is we have been defending them since their debut in 2013. They formed in 2010, and during those 3 years they worked their tails off to perfect their craft and continue to raise their own bar, and continue to best themselves. Keeping in mind they came from a small, nearly bankrupt no-name company and ended up (along with Bighit/Hybe founder Bang Si-hyuk) being solely responsible for creating what is now the Hybe and Hybe America corporation. I would really like to see you dig a little deeper into BTS history, live concert performances, training they had prior to BTS etc., if you're going to risk the wrath of ARMY by making analysis & comparison videos about them. It only seems fair, even though your usual audience may want to tar & feather you for even entertaining the idea. You may be an excellent guitarist & you make some valid points, but you're actually depending on basically that same technology you don't like to "prove" your point. It seems a little hypocritical really. You really don't know enough about BTS to make fair analysis about their true abilities. Have a blessed day, Borahae 💜
@@overkillbomber7962Did you see this news? Surely you've heard of the legend Diana Ross? Great show Fil, the girls banging on the B4... while their software is an absolute bore... We were all ears and we want more cowbells 😅 💃🤸♀️💃💃😁 Rock !!
Maybe now do a reaction to a video of 4th Impact from one of their live streams ......just the 4 ladies sitting in their house with basic microphones and NO technical enhancements at all.......just 4 natural voices whilst sitting at home .
@wingsofpegasus Thank you for this information. From someone who did her solo singing debut at church (with no help like this), I was a bit rattled, but surprised that it turned out ok. I have no idea how I sounded, but I would consider trying it again. I appreciate your expertise and feedback to your audience here on TH-cam.
Not my preferred style of music, but the 4th Impact version was definitely a lot easier on the ears than BTS. I was having a hard time figuring out just how truly live it was, with them singing along to the backing track, but they definitely showed professionalism to get through their technical problems and keep up their performance. It would have been easy to miss those things without you pointing that out Fil.
Not sure if you'll see this but I'd love an analysis on the Jonas Brothers... they're put in the Disney boy band box (despite being over a decade removed from that era and not a "creation" of disney, just signed with them at one point) but every time I've seen them they've sung live with no autotune (as far as I know), they and their band play their instruments live, etc... they're very underrated.
The moment the sisters stepped onstage their inear microphones stopped working. Any other artist, especially a group, would have stopped the performance until the equipment was repaired. Not 4th Impact!! They are just that damn good!!! Liked and subscribed!!!
Thanks for the explanation. They always seemed to have problems with the mixing guy, whoever tried to do it. This wasn't the only time that had happened. BUT, like professionals, they carried on.
It would be great to explore more singers from the Philippines. Filipinos in general love to sing and live with a very strong cultural insistence on singing without cheating (lipsyncing and pitch correction). If you want to continue down the pop route, try any live performance of SB19 next. I strongly suspect that the vast majority of their live vocals isn't autotuned.
I am not generally a K pop fan but I would be interested to see a reaction to Red Velvet who have some very interesting behind the scenes videos from recording sessions. They also have an interesting live version of Psycho.
very interesting - but i don't see the issue of non-auto-tuned singers covering an auto-tuned original as an issue - it's simply that one rendition is assisted by computers - but both are heard as songs performed by singers (so far) - one set of singers has proven talent - the other is questionably talented that's the issue with kpop - i'm a big fan - but have had to listen to a herd of performers who are insipid singers - with only a few with genuine talent sprinkled thru out - it's a good thing there are good songs - passably performed - or i would have ignored them entirely it's too bad that the entertainment explosion came out of korea rather than the philippines - the filipinos have always had an appreciation for dynamic voices - as Lia Salonga said - in the philippinos good singers are a dime a dozen - but the gov't & economy there are poor - whereas korea has thrived - and the gov't decided decades ago to establish the entertainment industry - and make it a potent source of income - and it succeeded - with tv dramas - movies - and now kpop
Thanks for bringing knowledge and thereby accountability to the music industry. I worked in a large club setting for a number of yrs. at Billy Bob’s Texas, the world’s largest honkytonk. The jam sessions were always so interesting. Different acoustic surroundings, smaller, often tube amps, non large venue more delicate microphones, and less pressure on everyone. Miscues were just laughed at. Lots of quirks in the entertainers. No ears, Randy Travis very flat. David Allen Coe could not have a fan blowing in his face or he would lose his voice. Slept on the bus the entire tour. I never knew if Willie and Waylon worked on diction or just had it. Merle Haggard could imitate anyone. The story is that Waylon and Eddie Van Halen had their strings closer to the frets than anyone. Stevie Ray really geared up for the stage and was smiling a lot more when relaxing and playing and singing. Thank God for the differences then and now. Like George Jones song, “Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes?” In all genres I think the answer is - no one. But you have to give the newer artists credit.
Hello Sir! You might also want to check out SB19! They are a group from the Philippines who are dubbed as 'live monsters' because their live performances are always much much better than the record! Even when they're dancing!
If it was truly live Fil would have found it. His research is meticulous and thorough before he does a video. I looked at it and it's autotuned. They just had better technicians hiding it. On this channel we get good at hearing it. Fil is a great educator.
After watching the first performance, huge props to singers before the in-ear appeared in the mid 80's. I can't imagine how they got it done. As for auto-tune/pitch correction, I don't have a good enough ear to just hear it the way you do, and so I'm almost afraid to ask if you could analyze Alter Bridge's live performance of Wings Darker That Their Words at the Royal Albert Hall show. Myles seemed to absolutely kill it at that show, but I do wonder, even though I've never heard of them having used either.
@@snjstr , I can hear auto tune. It’s harder for me to hear a mild use of Melodyne (pitch correction applied after a recording has been made). Auto tune leaves obvious artifacts that sound mechanical and wrong (and painful to my ears). Myles is not using a microphone with auto tune. I couldn’t enjoy the song if he was.
Did you see this news? Diana Ross has named Jungkook’s ‘Standing Next To You’ as one of her favorite songs on her website: “I really like his songs and his videos. MJ is coming through all of the moves. I just think he’s great! I like the dancers too. All of the dancers are fantastic.”
Oy... I need a fix from Bonnie Raitt, Ruthie Foster, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Gary Moore, or even Barry Manilow after suffering through what's being passed off as music these days. Yes, I'm a Boomer. Edit: Ah yes. Gary Moore singing "I Still Got The Blues" playing just now on our local rock station. I can breathe again.
I know how you feel. I put Zeppelin on repeat after this, for the rest of the day (because I don’t have any Gary Moore CDs). I do have SRV, but it’s been played too often. 😂
Hi Phil great to see channel going well ..if you haven't already you must do vocal analysis on" John Farnham live with his version of Beatles Help song with the orchestra !
I admire 4th Impact's ambition and effort, even if the end result was not quite satisfying. Then again, the source material itself was pedestrian to begin with.
4th Impact were specifically requested to sing this song ........not their best performance....but search out their you tube channel to really HEAR THEM SING ....harmony overload.

Anyway, Axel Rudi Pell and company are quite heavy and down right outstanding. I'm hoping you may enjoy their Metal sound. They are quite good. P.s. They'll actually blow your hair back. Lol. They remind me of Heavy Metal from back in it's day. They are what you call album oriented Rock, yet they are quite amazing live as well.
Please check out the pitch of Malinda. She sings A Capella versions of all kinds of songs and has the most amazing voice. It's a shame she tends to just post clips on TH-cam.
OMG! Wow! Thank youuuuu for your reaction!
No problem and thanks for the message, I'm glad you liked the video! 🙂
I definitely will be checking you guys out. I love hearing live music
I haven't heard of 4th Impact before, but I also appreciate that they kept it real! Thank you, Fil, for "PROVING there are still 'LIVE' voices out there!" It was an awesome analysis! Keep up the good work!
This was an awesome analysis! I learned so much I would’ve never considered. 4th Impact is so amazing. Love them. Thank you for this great reaction.
Although this isn't something I'd ever choose to listen to, it was a great analysis video as always! Thank you so much for all your hard work Fil!!
4th Impact usually does weekly live streams for their fans. It's very much like a tour bus atmosphere (spontaneous), and yes, it is a blast to watch.

Do try to listen to Wish Bus performances especially of SB19 (pure eargasm)
I would appreciate an analysis of them from you.
That what I heard too. The other day in the radio station. But the problem is all of them will use auto tune.
This is not my kind of music at all. That laugh made sitting through the video worth it!! 😊
Have you tried dissecting any of the live performances of SB19? Let me know if you can ever hear any percentage of split
Most Excellent...Well done, Fil, very well explained...
BTS are often seen adjusting mics and fixing in-ears in the middle of intense choreo performances. That's what pros do.
They started singing as a group in 2001, to help provide food for the family table, their goal the entire time has been to make a better life for their family and that goal is still alive today, as they pursue their dream in Los Angeles California, having relocated from the Philippines back in April of 2023, creating a 5 original song album, called "Distorted" and a couple of Music Video covers, "Flowers" and "Part of Your World"
Thanks for the great technical breakdown of these performances.
So sorry for your loss.
Aww bless him x
Sending you my deepest condolences.
So very sorry for your loss.
Sure he loves this too, smiling. 🌱✌ bless you.
Hi Fil,
I must say this was somewhat painful to sit through!
Many of their covers are as good as if not better than the original song.
Yeah, this wasn't very pleasant to listen to.
I listened to other performers at this festival. In addition to 4th Impact's in-ear problem, I don't think the quality of the sound system at the venue was kind to any of the artists.
@@terrymorris8607 yes, that is probably true as well.
Thats how good 4th impact, with no autotune, no reverb still sound so good, with no earpiece also, they nailed the song 😮👋👋👋
Really looks like we're creating needles technical trouble for ourselves trying to match a sound. It's the "remastering" of those old rock classics that bothers me the most. Imagine autotuning the colors on a Van Gogh because it's the new Adobe Photoshop industry standard.

4th Impact are really accurate pitchwise. They could perform in a hurricane.
Likewise, I thought that BTS's producer might have just like the way it sounded.
one of bts ARMYs biggest complaints honestly is how much processing their vocals go through on tracks
Wow, definitely looks like a tech nightmare, though I wouldn't have noticed if I heard this without the analysis. Not my personal cup of tea, but good for them for keeping it together.

Great update as always Fil
Some really amazing singers can sing live. They are not necessarily known to Western audiences. Singers like Zhou Shen (see my other comments), Dimash, Hua Chen Yu, Sohyang, D.O., BTS (not all their songs use autotune - don't use the English version songs released for American radio/American audiences during COVID as a gauge of their live vocals), IU, and so many more. Also, you can't necessarily use broadcast performances where the show producers have control of the audio and can choose to tweak or pitch correct the audio (which unfortunately has become a standard) to determine if a singer can sing well live.
Thank you for mentioning BTS
I recommend the early live performances of Mamamoo. They are known for their live stages, often singing over the backing track. Amazing vocals and harmonies, quite jazzy and funky at times. The performances from It's Live are my favorites, particularly "I Miss You".
Not familiar with these girls, but props to them for keeping it real and keeping it going! Nice 👍
Thank you so much ☺️
They still used auto tune even if its live or not
@@ReynanteBasit you can also check out when they sing Acapella on a Livestream like Jungkook's

BTS has multiple versions without autotune, you would know that if you were a fan
They sang it live at the Grammys.
BTS always sings live without autotune but with backing vocals since they’re dancing a lot.
I just want to recommend to you the kings of Philippines pop SB19 they are known as live monster's...
Not my style music, but at least they're not faking things.
Also, unless you've sung on stage, you don't realize how hard it is to hear yourself.
Please check out 4th Impact's you tube channel to really appreciate just how good they are. Many cover songs ( as good as if not better than the original song) and some original songs.
I suggest SB19. When comes to singing while dancing. The PPOP KINGS OF THE PHILIPPINES 🇵🇭. And they make their own music.
I didn't realize BTS Dynamite was autotuned. When i hear them sing it live, it doesn't sound drastically different.
BTS does t do auto tune.I been to 2 !I've BTS concerts.
This wasn't -- all the sections of "proof" were of Jungkook -- who we all know has an industry-recognized voice for his pitch and tone.
Keepin it real !
Next Try to react SB19 Sir the vocal monster of philippines 5 membera they are all singer dancer and rapper. We call them a PPop kings
I'm sorry but that's not true. I'm a singer and can sing with my ears blocked. What is hard with groups is coordinating without their monitors.
Yes the sound system was a nightmare for them at show this was a show the done in Korea they was asked to perform this .there are one the best girl group I've seen in many years.i can't find anyone who comes close to them .
You're right.
They're really awesome. so much talent despite all those technical issues. The show must go on and they slay!!!

All ppop groups in the Philippines are singing live. Please check the wish bus performance.
Thanks!
These girls are pros and perfectionsist and gorgeous
very interesting - but i don't see the issue of non-auto-tuned singers covering an auto-tuned original as an issue - it's simply that one rendition is assisted by computers - but both are heard as songs performed by singers (so far) - one set of singers has proven talent - the other is questionably talented
that's the issue with kpop - i'm a big fan - but have had to listen to a herd of performers who are insipid singers - with only a few with genuine talent sprinkled thru out - it's a good thing there are good songs - passably performed - or i would have ignored them entirely
it's too bad that the entertainment explosion came out of korea rather than the philippines - the filipinos have always had an appreciation for dynamic voices - as Lia Salonga said - in the philippinos good singers are a dime a dozen - but the gov't & economy there are poor - whereas korea has thrived - and the gov't decided decades ago to establish the entertainment industry - and make it a potent source of income - and it succeeded - with tv dramas - movies - and now kpop
I imagine you like Mamamoo. And 4th Impact has released some amazing original music in the last few years.
@@terrymorris8607 - never been a fan of Mamamoo - but i am of Big Mama & Spica
@@johneyon5257 In my opinion Mamamoo is the best Korea has.
Another great video. Is that a Phillipines flag?
4th Impact is made up of 4 sisters from the Philippines. They’re currently in LA.
I would love to see an analysis of the vocals in Jungkook - Standing Next To You LIVE on Jimmy Fallon
Fil... Check out some of their other songs. Let the world know just how good they are. You'll be glad you did!!
Yes please!!
True.❤
I think BTS’s Grammy performance of Dynamite isn’t autotuned. There seems to be more ”flat” notes so you should really check it out and analyze it :)
Myles seemed to absolutely kill it at that show, but I do wonder, even though I've never heard of them having used either.
us poor singers still do it the old fashion way lol ☺😉
Words Darker than Their Wings, live at Royal Albert Hall is clean (no auto tune). Myles can sing, though.
@@SuziQ. He's definitely got skill. Can I ask how you know about the auto tune? I did search the web, but could never find anything definitive.
@@snjstr ,
I can hear auto tune.
It would be a lie to sing live with AT, were it not on the studio. So to not use AT live, when did in studio, is absolutely commendable. Bravo!
Did you see this news?
Diana Ross has named Jungkook’s ‘Standing Next To You’ as one of her favorite songs on her website:
“I really like his songs and his videos. MJ is coming through all of the moves. I just think he’s great! I like the dancers too. All of the dancers are fantastic.”
For classic vocals you need to look at Scandinavian vocalists like Floor and Nightwish, Eivør and Simone Simons and American Beth Hart.
Yes I know Floor and Simone are Dutch.
I just find this performance of the act, wanting.
Would love to see you tackle Zayn’s recent Tonight Show performance and/or the Nelly Furtado Tiny Desk performance NPR just released!
Sure you know about Difonic chant (sorry, I'm spanish). It will be vey fun how ours app broke hearing Anna-Maria Hefele difonic chant.
Not my thing at all.
Any chance you could do something on “Where rivers meet” I personally think they are so good,
Phil have you heard of Liliac ? They are a family of Americans of Romanian descent. The Girl has a phenomenal voice and worth a listen.
4th Impact were specifically requested to sing this song ........not their best performance....but search out their you
tube channel to really HEAR THEM SING ....harmony overload.
Please react to G22. They're a monster girl group. They're as good as 4TH IMPACT. If 4th Impact are the queens, then G22 are the princesses. Also, please react to SB19. Thank you!
G22 are the Princesses. My 2nd favorite after 4th Impact. I'd like to see another collaboration from them like they all did a couple of years ago.❤
I have been to many bts concerts and these 7 amazing rappers and singers are absolutely incredible these guy's have worked their tails off to get to where they are at and trust me they did everything organically and they definitely sing with their real voices i just wanted to let you know that i have been Army since 2013 since their pre debut days and been to concerts since then its so much fun seeing these guys in concert they use zero auto tune during live shows i camt wait to have you hear bts in concert it becomes a party im telling ya lol. WE PURPLE YOU 💜 BORAHAE 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜🫰🫰🫰🫰🫰🫰🫰🫰🫰🫰🫰🫰🫰🫰🫰🫰🫰🫰🫰🫰🫰
you should check out SB19. Performances are eargasm.
If you want to hear if there are any good live vocalists out there listen to Lucy Thomas at her recent live concert in Manchester, her latest release on u-tube is 'At last',stunning.
Just looked at Apple's new 'Top 10 Albums' of all time. For the most part, it's a total disaster.
Phil, I'm asking you to preview Axel Rudi Pell featuring Bonnie Tyler (hey, she's Welch) "Love's Holding On". ARP male vocalist is Johnny Gioeli formerly of Hardline who redid the redo "Hot Cherie" with brother-in-law Neil Schon of Journey.
Agree!!!
you might want to check out Dan Vasc's Amazing Grace. Powerful performance!
Here’s a VERY INTERESTING ONE. IRIS DEMENT AND EMMYLOU HARRIS “Our Town”
