    As an Illinois rust belt DIY mechanic, I can totally relate to the bolt snapping . Road salt destroys everything ferrous, and isn't great for aluminum, either! When installing struts, always do a pair from the same manufacturer. You also want to torque the upper strut mount nuts with the weight of the vehicle on them, so basically the last thing you do before you reinstall the plastic covers. Great tip on moving the wipers to gain access to the nuts!

    "Shock and awe "! Between that and you're having the bourbon in the middle of your Odyssey to fix the leak in the rear spare tire. Well, I've decided you're my new favorite mechanic on TH-cam you crack me up. And a fun watching you work on a CRV because I have a 2010 I like to see what different jobs entail even though a lot of of them I wouldn't ever try myself i like how you overcome difficulties without really ever getting too upset

    Many thanks for posting this video; well lit, clear images at good angles. I am in Edinburgh, Scotland and have a 2011 CRV 2.2 i-DTEC, sway bar above the subframe, only bolt heads visible. I have spent hours changing out my drop links, carefully cutting through rusted nuts with a Dremel tool. The clunking noises stopped, but have returned after a year or so. I was planning to change the bushes, but became cautious after reading through various comments in CRV forums, some with very confusing misinformation, about the consequences of sheared bolts. Your video clearly indicates that the bush clamps are bolted to a removable suspension bush bracket, that is bolted to the subframe. With a rusty bolt, as soon as some thread is exposed, soaking the bolt in WD40 or other, and screwing it back in and out a few times may gradually free it.

    Good job staying up late to complete the job you're a real grinder and by the way nice new headlights in the front. Those are like the ones I would like to get I want to replace my entire front bumper because there's a little bit of damage in my logos missing after I tap to coworker when he hit his brakes in front of me merging onto a highway because he's an idiot, but we have the same CRV same color same year I think 2010 mines EXL with NAV. I hope you get home and have a good night sleep and make it back to work by 7:30. That's a tough turnaround course. This was several months ago, but anyway.

    Great video, thanks. I use Moog stabilizer links as they are easier to pull it apart and reinstall. I just grease them every time I service the car and they seem to be still in good condition.

    • @themechanic2.060
      @themechanic2.060  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you. That’s the key.. they have to be greased at every service. Some missed is ok, but my reasoning is not every shop takes the time to grease a car or truck. That’s why we prefer a quality non serviceable part for certain suspension components. In my case, as I definitely would grease them, I always use OEM or equivalent especially for links because I want to put them in and forget about them. And keep the grease mess down. As I do for my customers. Great comment. Thank you for your awesome input and support. 🤙🏻

    Very good work on the CR-V despite the difficulty you faced with the broken bolt. I am watching the videos on this job because I have a Honda just like that and I need to change the front and rear struts, I am going to change them myself.
    Thank you very much for your videos and successes.

    I have been reading comments all over regarding these exact strut assemblies (SR4233,SR4234) where users experience knocking due to the strut mounts/springs and complaints of premature bearing failure. Did you notice this at all? This seems to only impact the front strut assembly and not the back

    • @themechanic2.060
      @themechanic2.060  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes. The first set I received the right front strut had spring “bonging” sounds when turning. Put a replacement in under warranty of course.. problem fixed. Apparently there is a bad lot of front strut assemblies with defective strut mount/bearings. I found this out after making this video. I thought it was just me until I did my research. I will be doing a rear suspension video for the rear of my CRV with struts and bushings in the future. Stay tuned. Thanks for the feedback and input. Hope you’re subscribed!

      I had that issue with KYB strut assemblies on my Wife's minivan. I wasn't impressed.

    • @AcmePhoto
      @AcmePhoto ปีที่แล้ว

      I read on a forum that KYB ready struts for Cr-V also have an issue with the angle of the strut mount which can cause a clunk. Manufacturers says use lithium grease, but that dosen't always work. Has anyone else experienced this and have they changed the design to the proper angle?

  • @kleinhurr
    @kleinhurr ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi there, I'm about to buy a pair of front struts for my Honda CRV 2008. I see so many complaints from Honda owners about these KYB struts as they make a lot of noise, so can you tell us how these struts are after this video was posted.

    • @themechanic2.060
      @themechanic2.060  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The KYBs perform like factory in ride and quality. It is true these complete struts have complaints from premature strut bearing failure and in many cases right out of the box being defective. In my case I had an out of box failure. The strut would make noise the spring would “pong and pop” when turning the wheel. I replaced it with another KYB and solved the issue. KYB has been experiencing quality control on these particular applications. I don’t know if they resolved it, but I still trust the brand and haven’t experienced any problems since. Thanks for your input! 👊🏼

      Oops, missed that part, but see it now... Got caught up on the drama of the broken bolt. I read in a few forums that some people's had an issue with KYB, having an incorrect angle on the top of the mount, causing a random clinking noise. I went with Gabriel and will be installing soon. Tnx.
