I currently own a 2016 LR4 HSE, Fuji White. What a vehicle! I’ve owned and LR3, RR Sport and a 2003 Disco. Nothing compares to my current LR4. Classic design. This vehicle is a beast. Live in New England and it has never let me down in inclement weather. I cannot tell you how many people have offered to buy my LR4. Just keep to the maintenance schedule and change the oil every 5,000 miles and you will have years of great driving. Most of all, you will be driving a Land Rover!!!
I could watch and listen Jonathan's videos all day long. Such a well prepared car journalist. I would love to own a Discovery 4, but I know that now days running costs are much higher then a few years ago, unless you really need such a big SUV, it's useless buying it. Thank you.
Just bought a LR4 a few months ago and I don't find that running costs are all that bad. Based in the US myself there are plenty of options for parts either online or nearby. General maintenance is a key to these vehicles. You can't treat it like a Toyota truck were you don't change oil for 10,000 miles or hardly ever check your other levels. Just a little more than normal TLC and these will last you for years without major issue. You'll also be in a Land Rover, which may be a bit of pride for certain people, but I think its well deserved.
I own one, the best car in my garage. Did a 10 000km African safari with our 4 kids and off road trailer in style and comfort. It's capability on the rough stuff is fantastic. One life, Live it!
Excellent and true review, i have owned my Discovery 4 XS for 4 years now and never missed a beat, yes they are something else when they want to be but nothing compares to a Disco 4 .......from experience.
Very good at everything, from motorway speeds to cruising country lanes to sleeping inside with the seats flat to off roading to the extream and towing 3.5 tonnes with ease and carrying 7 persons comfortably seated in luxury, what else is there to want. Get friendly with a good garage and expect to visit them regularly and expect to pay for the privilege of owning this unbeatable top of its class truck
Hey darren i am about to buy a LR4 Se but i am in doubt to upgrade and stay with the new diacovery. Can you tell me about your experience and what you found attractive more on de discovery 4?
Who the fuck is this dude. What an absolutely fantastically presented and informative review for an absolutely fantastic vehicle (I'm lucky enough to own a 09 Disco 3 and a 15 Disco 4). These thing have a turning circle that defies belief. Very handy when towing, which I do every day.
I've had my Disco 3 for 15 years now. It's brilliant. I've also had a NATO hitch made up for a pintle which allows towing army trailers. I do get some funny looks though ;)
Do you have the review of that 2013 Range Rover Sport that was also shown in the video when you were talking about comparing the Range Rover Sport to the sporty rivals
What a beaut! I'm actually about to buy one, wanted the HSE but I found a really low mileage high spec SE basically brand new and I'm content! Also love your review!!
I did the same 3 years ago . Bought a low miler 42k SE . For the simple reason that it was my first one and didn't want loads of gizmo's going wrong and putting me of the brand . So 35k later and still love it to bits . Best upgrade to do is Zenons as the halogens are useless
Excellent review on this Disco 4 , I have one the latest 66 plate landmark, which sits between HSE lux and the HSE , one of the most comfortable cars I driven with the air suspension, unfortunately I had replace the pump , I only bought this car as it was only 14254 on the clock, I was initially was after HSE lux but a landmark was compromise with the level of options as standard . Regards mark
@@CarandDrivingCarReviews What's your personal take on the HSE luxury or Landmark.... Am caught up between Disco 4 and Merc GL350 you reviewed. I would greatly appreciate your advise 🙏
Great review of a truly remarkable vehicle. I owned a 2012 Disco 4 for 11 years, best car ever. It gave me great service, it was part of the family. All our memories and road trips were built around this car. Took us to every part of South Africa with such confidence and ease. Sold the car in December but regretted it. Landed another 2015 Model now, so hoping for similar service and reliability. The real trick is to follow a consistent maintenance routine and the Disco 4 will not let you down.
Would be good to see a revisit review of the D4 now in 23/24 and thoughts on how this has held up against time. I went from a 21 Defender P400 X to a D4 Landmark and pref the D4 🤓👍
I'd have a disco any day over anything out of Germany...if you buy one "PRELOVED" make sure it's been serviced by a land Rover dealership and the timing belts have been changed recently...do your due diligence before you lay down the lolly and you'll be a happy camper!!.😎💕🇬🇧🇺🇦
I own one they are fantastic vehicles just wish Toyota made it that said. I have already budgeted for a new motor if there was a Toyota that came close I would buy it sadly not so D4 it is
had a giggle, i towed 3600 unbraked from Sydney to Sunshine Coast Au, in rain, trailer brakes failed, car was rock steady, that was a 2010 194tdv6, now i have the SDV6 love it
my disco 4 3.0 diesel, rotary gear knob serve great, reliable, comfortable, good sound proof, fuel consumption reasonable.....robust....that's my opinion ......600 nm,250 bhp....i think good enough....yes ,people offer to buy....no....i still want to keep it.。。
One of the most comfortable vehicles to wait at the side of the road waiting for the breakdown truck to come and rescue you when as you surly will break down, ask me how I know.
But he is right, who wants to take off the body for jobs like changing the turbo, such a poorly designed diesel engine, chassis corrodes quickly and the air suspension leakes like a paper balloon. They spend most of their time in the garage, much to the delight of the stealers. There are loads of them being sold very cheap second hand, but you will regret it if you bought one.
And the MOST unreliable offroader on the market..... Not even prince Henry was brave enough to ride in a Land Rover when visiting Dubai.... he preferred the Toyota Landcruiser instead.....

I consider the Discovery 4 to be the best vehicle Land Rover has produced.
Agreed Land Rover Defender 130 2023 Is Also Fantastic
I have a 16 plate Graphite. I traded down from a 19 plate Audi S5, best decision I've ever made.
2016 Disco 4 is the best 4x4 on the market, even in 2022.
I just ordered mine! (dealership a couple states away) 2016 HSE Lux 77k miles SO STOKED - upgrading from my 2012 lexus GX 460 and i cant WAIT!
Totally agree, I’ve just sold my new Defender 110 and gone back to a late Disco 4, cracking vehicles!
I have my Discovery 4 since 2016, still love it!

Had one for two years then stupidly traded it in for a discovery 5 , which is arguably the worst car I’ve ever had.

I picked up my 66 reg Discovery Landmark last year - only 34k on the clock and superb - love it to bits.
We got a second hand 2015 HSE and loving it! It’s got the climate and smokers packages. Ebony interior. Just beautiful
It’s a super car! Best I’ve ever owned as a daily driver in all weather. Love it and will keep it until it’s outlawed!

You do not mention the fact that the V6 engine has a history of breaking crankshafts
It depends on maintenance sometimes. I've seen various Discovery 4s being used as tow cars and have tines of miles.

Pity about the irritating banner.

Is it? I feel like the timing chain is the only major issue and you only need to fix that once.
