I knew Jimmy, he had the cash. It was his. I know he kicked some money upstairs to Paulie, but that was it. It made him sick to have to turn money over to the guys who stole it, he’d rather whack them. Anyway, what did I care? I wasn’t asking for anything and besides Jimmy was making nice money through my Pittsburgh connections. Still, for months after the robbery, they were finding bodies all over. When they found Carbone in the meat truck, he was frozen so stiff it took them two days to thaw him out for the autopsy, Still, I never saw Jimmy so happy. He was like a kid. We had money coming in through my Pittsburgh people and after a while even the Lufthansa thing began to calm down. But the thing that made Jimmy so happy that morning was that this was the day Tommy was being made, You know, we always called each other good fellas. Like you said to, uh, somebody, ‘You’re gonna like this guy. He’s all right. He’s a good fella. He’s one of us’. You understand? We were good fellas. Wiseguys. But Jimmy and I could never be made because we had Irish blood. It didn’t even matter that my mother was Sicilian. To become a member of a crew you’ve got to be one hundred per cent Italian so they can trace all your relatives back to the old country. See, it’s the highest honor they can give you. It means you belong to a family and crew. It means that nobody can fuck around with you. It also means you could fuck around with anybody just as long as they aren’t also a member. It’s like a license to steal. It’s a license to do anything. As far as Jimmy was concerned with Tommy being made, it was like we were all being made. We would now have one of our own as a member."

Had an amazing ride with the trio since Top Gear. And when The Grand Tour came out I was over filled with joy seeing our 3 best mates do adventures again. And its sad the Tent has to go..I personally loved the tent and conversation street, the Ebola Drome, Abbie, The American and they after show discussion. While it was a tearful wnding montage from Top Gears best moments to these, its also a happy ending to a story that's been told. And while the chapter closes at the tent, the story goes on with their adventures. When the trio retire, no one can take their place as our childhood and adolescent stage of life when it comes to laughter...even as adults its hard. But they will always be remembered. The Orangutan, The Hammster and Captain Slow. And on that Bombshell and Terrible dissappointment, I hope we all continue to enjoy their adventures till the end. See you guys there💖

Happy Birthday Patti Boyd. some of the juicy details from her tell-all book : • In 1970 Boyd was married to Harrison but became involved with Eric Clapton after hearing "Layla." "We met secretly at a flat in South Kensington. Eric had asked me to come because he wanted me to listen to a new number he had written," Boyd recalled. "He switched on the tape machine, turned up the volume and played me the most powerful, moving song I had ever heard. It was 'Layla.'" • Later that same night Boyd was caught out in the garden of manager Robert Stigwood's house. "[Harrison] kept asking, 'Where's Pattie? But no one seemed to know. He was about to leave when he spotted me in the garden with Eric," Boyd said. "George came over and demanded, 'What's going on?' To my horror, Eric said, 'I have to tell you, man, that I'm in love with your wife.' I wanted to die. George was furious. He turned to me and said: 'Well, are you going with him or coming with me?'" She went home with Harrison. • Clapton once showed up drunk at Harrison's home and engaged the Beatles' guitarist in a rock duel. "George handed him a guitar and an amp -- as an 18th-century gentleman might have handed his rival a sword -- and for two hours, without a word, they dueled," Boyd recalled. "At the end, nothing was said but the general feeling was that Eric had won. He hadn't allowed himself to get riled or go in for instrumental gymnastics as George had. Even when he was drunk, his guitar-playing was unbeatable."
Well, now I know what my dad was listenig to when he asked my mom if they could name me Layla... turned out, my momma said yes! I'm Layla and proudly play this song in my guitar. Thank you pops, love you a million times and again.

At 3:10 I think we get that beautiful, beautiful sequence of the bodies in the pink car

Without a doubt, the greatest Rock & Roll song of all time. Eric Clapton & Duane Allman have an incredible, spiritual, musical connection. Duane Allman's slide guitar work is "Haunting"
One of the greatest songs ever written and one of my absolute favorites ever since I heard it back in 1970 when I was 7
this song is a masterpiece... bassline, riff, solo, drums..... everything is satisfying to listen
"Once Driven... Forever Smitten..."
Jeremy... Richard... James.... You were a huge part of my American childhood. Thanks for the trips... Tricks and oh Coc×s that the world shared with you three. Greetings from New Jersey.
Thank you Jeremy, Richard and James for the past 16 years.
We could have had 17
Thank you Captain Slowly ! :D
I'm going to name my daughter after this song.
Layla shields.

A better outro to a song has never existed, nor will it ever. It's just pure magic!
See you guys there💖
An absolute classic after all these years.
The outro is one of the most beautiful moving pieces ever written
This is the most beautiful song I’ve ever heard!!!
"I don't trust people who skipped the piano ending" ~ Abraham Lincoln
🤣🤣🤣🤣
RIP Mr Ray Liotta aka Henry Hill Goodfellas will never be the same without you 1954-2022
Can't get enough of this song even more thanks to the grand tour finale, even thou the show has ended "as we know it " at least we can enjoy the specials even more 👍👍. Thanks boys for the last 16 years
The absolute best song to play air piano to. I never miss a note.
Probably the most recognized guitar riff in rock history.
Nah no way.
Smoke on the water, back in black?
I Love Rock and Roll? So many others, man. Don't get me wrong, this is a fantastic song by all means, but it's not THAT recognizable.
Yes, I have actually never heard about it til a few months ago that I began listening cream and Eric Clapton
Not really. I love EC and this song, but no. This is not one of the most recognized riffs.
Layla is my personal favorite opening guitar riff, but I would guess “Satisfaction” is more recognizable to the general public.
Literally the best guitarist to ever come out of America. Good on him for helping out these guys Derek and Eric
Best version in my opinion,,have listened to this hundreds of times in my life and never tire of it, its timeless
It's not a version. Try the ORIGINAL.
I know its the original, I was 20 yrs. old when it came out
Brooke Hanley I know its the original, I was 20 years old when it was released.....
No, you just don't.
***** An original should never be referred to as a version. Just sayin.
Thank you Goodfellas for introducing me to this song many years ago, And countless other amazing songs.
You can allways count on Scorsese.

Happy Birthday Patti Boyd.
some of the juicy details from her tell-all book :
• In 1970 Boyd was married to Harrison but became involved with Eric Clapton after hearing "Layla." "We met secretly at a flat in South Kensington. Eric had asked me to come because he wanted me to listen to a new number he had written," Boyd recalled. "He switched on the tape machine, turned up the volume and played me the most powerful, moving song I had ever heard. It was 'Layla.'"
• Later that same night Boyd was caught out in the garden of manager Robert Stigwood's house.
Great guitarist but a crap friend apparently.
D Watson George was an even shittier friend. Just ask Ringo
D Watson I don't think Clapton ever claimed to be a friend of Harrison, Dijon the Cat is right though, George was no saint.
They were close friends really
I read Clapton's autobiography. He seemed remarkably immature.
Piano part is the star of this track.. amazing.. nothing like it ever again
Yes. Performanse by Bobby Whitlock! 👍🏴
And those bird calls that Duane makes at the very end are icing on the cake ❤
Every chord and beat is the Star. It needed the Edgy, chaotic frantic opening and massive rift overhang too.
Well, now I know what my dad was listenig to when he asked my mom if they could name me Layla... turned out, my momma said yes!
I'm Layla and proudly play this song in my guitar.
Thank you pops, love you a million times and again.
This is one of the songs that can make real men alike, weep
Thank you Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond.
Probably my biggest regret is never going for a live show in person,
However, the way you guys ran the show made it feel as if I was there
in person. I would even respond to you guys. I bid adieu to THE greatest

I believe this is the greatest "rock and roll" song ever written and recorded!
the replayability of this song is incredible. genius composers.
The second half is godly
Oh yes
*All of it
The first half is better imo
But I respect that you like more the second half
currently falling in love with a chick and that second half of the song is just.. jeez. really represents how falling in love feels like
That opening riff though..... Wow
That riff is the Legendary Duane Allman of the ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND!!
Since i was 3, ive been trying to find out this song, the piano part use to always make me cry like a baby! But its neatly formed and a beautiful melody with a beautiful song title :)
Thank you Patti Boyd, for inspiring 2 of the greatest love songs ever - this song and Something in the Way She Moves. What a muse.
Someone once said she was also the inspiration for Bell Bottom Blues, but I have never found any conformation... Anyone have any knowledge on that???
@@glenny614 yes, supposedly Eric Clapton confirmed it was about Pattie Boyd (per Wikipedia :) at least ). Also, "You Look Wonderful Tonight". May be others! I think the other two songs were just much better than these two.

Can you explain, why everyone is talking about Top Gear guys under Layla?
@@neilraphaelveigas3693 Thanks soo much.
@@Intelligent_investor did you get an awnser?
@@jamie8037 I did but that comment was since deleted. It was something about how much the top gear guys like Layla.
@@Intelligent_investor It’s because on the last proper episode of The Grand Tour at the end they played this song during a montage of all the things that they had done over the years. It was very emotional with Clarkson bursting into tears. If your interested the episode is s03 e13 A funeral for a Ford.
One of the most amazing and iconic songs ever made!
The greatest opening riff in music. Period.
Bought the album in 1973, still play it from time to time. Certainly had my monies worth.
3:11 You're gonna like this guy, he a goodfella, he's one of us.
aaaand now it's all over
I think of that every time I hear this song!
OMG. That piano is just beautiful. I love this song. One of my favorites to come out of the 60's. What can I say. Eric Clapton aka Derek and the Domino's.
So very reminiscent of times 1972.....wonderful
oh Duane Allman, gone too too soon.. he's what makes this very special, none of the live performances later or countless covers could recreate his magic with the slide guitar..
James, Richard and Jeremy, please don't change anything, and stay as fun as you are. I don't know what TGT will be next time, but please, keep goin' !
I remember I used to hear this on the radio when I was a kid and they used to play the shortened version where it cut off about 3:06. I loved that version but when they eventually played the full length version,it's safe to say my jaw dropped to the floor
Such a great song with an amazing hook. Love this riff so much
Eric you colored my teen years, adult life and now into my old age. Thank you for your genius music, how I adore you. Here's lifting the glass to better years for both of us in our second half. Mwah
