Fascists thrive in an environment where fear of "the other" drives good people to do really bad things. European history during the 1930's and 1940's have proven that to be true. It's very likely that the ordinary people just want a centrist government who can work with the opposition to help the citizens. Not likely most of them wanted a far right or a far left leadership.

Far left is apparently a synonym for good! Lenin, Stalin, Castro, pol pot, Mao Zedong and Peron. Even Mussolini’s fascism is a big government worker/union ideology....the opposition would be libertarianism or anarcho-capitalism. This movement seem to be an ultra “progressive” one global govt movement…with a common policy on climate, environment, moral relativism , economics, mono culture, quasi secularist, uniform politics and rule by technocrats.

What’s there to be shocked about? France has always been a Liberal, civil rights and freedom loving country. The people of France have spoken through their vote. Who in their far right mind would vote for a holocaust denier who has the same political policies of Trump and Putin. Those were her exact words coming out of her mouth. In recent interviews she appeared to be so sweet. As sweet as a cobra. All her propaganda got rejected. Even her happy tooth pre planned Prime Minister with the Italian last name, rejected! When I first saw him my response was “Is he a mortician?” He sure looks like one. Seriously, my empathic spider senses were tingling. At least he didn’t feign sweetness.
I give credit to President Emmanuel Macron. He forced her hand. So! You think you can out smart him? If you can’t than you are not fit to run the country.
He’s still the President for his term and if he plays his cards right with a little bit of caucusing with the left, he can still get things done. Maybe get enough things done that it will run the far right into the ground.
With the new left wing party, the people will get their retirement age back where it should be, not a move towards modern day slavery like what the far right wants for their Oligarchs. I immediately though that when Macron pushed that through, that the French people were going to get even with him. Not a brilliant move on his part. He should have found the funding elsewhere for the “best in the world” French pension system.
At least his brilliant move of calling a snap election got all the stress of haters off his back and now he can focus on protecting France from the Eastern European threat. Le Pen whined that there was not enough time to get her 1000 delegates screened and together. How would she face a snap decision to thwart an invading army? A very real possibility in the near future. What has she been doing all this time? Playing golf and watching Fox News?
As for me, I can read French. I don’t want to see all the street signs of France in the Cyrillic text.
