@@CompassionateCoos Right, well considering the tone of your initial comment it implied that you didn't agree at all with Murray's views. What if we remove the 'common' and just say 'sense'. Because not wanting to accept more immigrants into a country which is already overflowing with them, and particularly with ones that make no effort to integrate and who commit a disproportionate number of crimes, is absolutely sensible. How 'common' this is well unfortunately it is not nearly common enough or we wouldn't be in this mess in the first place. Right?
@@AZInMotion Im not familiar enough with Murray's views to agree or disagree with them. As for it being sensible or not, that implies it follows from reason. The issue with the argument is that you have a hidden premise for each of the premises, aside from the obvious empirical issue of actually determining whether the country is overflowing or how much immigrants do or do not make an effort to integrate. So lets keep it to the premise that I know is true for some countries in europe. p1 Immigrants commit disproportionately more crime than non immigrants (hidden premise p2) If immigrants commit more crime proportionately, this justifies stopping all immigration. Conclusion : We should not accept more immigrants into country Now that the hidden premise was uncovered the argument is sound. However, this came at a cost of introducing a very bold premise. One that I cannot accept due to many reasons. First, there may be other variables rather than immigrant status that contribute to the increased crime rate, like income status. Second, it assumes that stopping all immigration is the most effective and appropriate response to the perceived problem of crime. This is a very unproportional response, nevermind that there may be better ways to curb crime. Lastly, there is negative consequences from stopping immigration that have to be weighted agains the potential positives. Immigrants contribute to economic growth substantial, and are crucial for this at a time of demographic decline. Maybe there is a good argument to limiting immigration heavily, i havent heard it but I am open to it. I am mostly leaving this comment so that you and anyone else might learn that there is a way for us to determine whether our beliefs are justified or not, as I really believe that if more people use these tools we can have a better world.
Britain is turning right also. The problem is that our votes for Brexit and the Conservatives - which were motivated almost exclusively by the goal of reducing immigration - were betrayed by a 300% increase in immigrants. And decreased vetting of those immigrants to boot.
They got into power and betrayed the people. As a result, the conservatives will pay the price by losing badly, and their traditional voters will lurch to Reform, and rightly so

Not true. It’s also highly suspicious that so much of the social media on the topic came from the USA and the UK, not Ireland. So exactly like what happened with Trump and exactly what happened with Brexit, essentially manipulation of figures to make people believe one thing, spread that disinformation and even go so far to vote against their interests.

But that for most of the population, it hardly affects them at all. Immigration is very localised in certain areas, and non-existant in many others. Todays election, with Reform making anti-immigration their core, will show you for exactly how many people immigration is the most important issue. That's the point of democracy. Britain can take pride in the fact that historically it has always been ahead of its mainland European counterparts in many regards. Britain was the first country in Europe to begin its right-wing populist revolution with the Brexit vote and the 2019 Conservative landslide. England united much earlier than other European countries, laid the foundation for human rights and capitalism, it established parliamentary democracy, had its civil war and subsequent republican experiment, established the largest empire in history and began the industrial revolution; compared to the rest of Europe it was the first to do all these things. As a result I believe that the UK will be the first to solve the immigration crisis and begin the cultural and religious restoration of Europe. The UK will only have a left-wing government following the next election compared to other European countries because of first-past-the-post; a voting system which other European countries do not have otherwise it would certainly be a right-wing coalition government.
As a result, the conservatives will pay the price by losing badly, and their traditional voters will lurch to Reform, and rightly so
I think it was more that Brexit, served by these moronic Farage types was an objectively terrible idea. Oh yeah lets decouple ourselves for the largest trading bloc in the world-that will work out well.
None of these right wing idiots in the UK can take responsibility for that colossally dumb idea and its execution.
Immigration was important to me during the Referendum but it was not the major factor behind my vote to leave. The value of my vote was badly devalued by membership of the EU. I am looking forward to bringing MPs who have failed keep their promises to me facing up to their betrayal of my trust.

Because they're mostly all for it, or are strong armed into being so due to it's alleged economic benefits by the banks and fiscal advisors.
Because for much of the population, immigration really isn't the most important issue. I'm not saying it isn't important and that it isn't affecting more people every year. But that for most of the population, it hardly affects them at all. Immigration is very localised in certain areas, and non-existant in many others. It's long overdue that the UK people saw it too or they will go down the gurgler as Europe was/is poised to do.

People don't like the real facts he displays as it does not support the narrative of their agenda and their own misguided self interest. So much respect for him. One of the few lights in the darkness of journalism these days.
The continent is righting itself. That'd great. Europe for Europeans!
The last time Europe lurched to the right, it didn't turn out well. Be careful what you wish for
@@wfifa199 Righting itself ain't turning Nazis. The left are the Nazis/Communist and crazy.
@@wfifa199fascism is a revolutionary socialist movement, hardly right wing
@@ROONLDfacists hated socialists and communists, Mussolini was part of the left but then he left them(no pun intended) and started facism. NAZI germany policies were hardly left wing, they were simply authoritarian
So you have to be born in Europe to live there? What a world we live in
What a man sir douglas Murray
Just voted for Geerts pvv party 🥳
I believe Douglas was enjoying a moment of schadenfreude with Labour wanted to re join the EU. It could be even worse they could reject us for not holding values acceptable to the Europeans, that would be the ultimate insult.
That is the case. The UK doesn't have a codified written constitution, for instance. Some argue that it breaches the Copenhagen criteria regarding democratic governance.
personally I think is at least suspicious that the parliament doesn't have anyone with veto powers over it, like monarchs of European monarchies have, and can simply nominate prime minister after prime minister without any public consultation. Then Rishi has a fever and he can call elections just because.
Can you imagine the shame of having to write a constitution to re-join? Cromwell would raise from the dead and b-slap the fool.
i think he uk wont join the eu because they think the eu is far right .
I'm finding it hard to get my head around the argument that just because other countries are voting one way, Britain should too
Britain is NOT the outlier, there's no one to vote for.
That's why reform were created. 😊

Vote Reform UK
"The public good" seems to always be decided by a few people who are not members of the public.
