Maybe the reason for the house being so boring-looking in "the future" when the guy moves in, is because he is an adult, now. But when he was a child the house was filled with his fantasies, if you know what I mean. Kinda hard to explain.
And the whole story is the guy having flashbacks from when he was a child living with his father, that locked him inside of the basement every day, and each flashback is representing all the different things the kid did, in order to not get locked in the basement. And those screaming noises in the beginning is the kid screaming/crying. And as the story goes on, the guy eventually rescues his "childhood-self" from the basement, which after that makes the flahbacks stop or something. Just my theory.

It's the kid that goes back to live at home after the dad dies, he inherits the house but is haunted by his past. His father kept him in the basement and there can be more to that. So the son goes to sleep in the house and has a dream that sets him in the past. He is trying to save himself from the basement while seeing everything scary like he use to. That is my theory... not with everything in it though just because I don't want to type it.

Stephanie Wolf I'm sure other people have the same theory. I can say I made it and other people have it.... mainly because I don't watch anyone or talk to people that play this game except on this channel. A lot of this Beta proved or at least helped my theory I've had.
TheRiceBowl - Gaming and More! What? In present day is when the son is moving in. He falls asleep and has a dream that takes him to the PAST. So no the father/neighbor wouldn't be older. The protagonist is a child at that point. But his present dream self is also there. So yea the son and father could be the same age but it's because the present protagonist is in the past.

I have a theory! What if the protaginist is the neighbor from when he was younger? He'd be trying to catch you to question you because he's seeing his past self. And the protaginist would be trying to stop something in the basement and would run so as to not be seen by his future self!

I already watched someone else playt his and I usually only watch one video on a certain topic but I saw Captain Sauce post this and I automatically clicked
ok so you're the neighbors son, you got evicted from your apartment, and so you were forced to return to your childhood home. (explains the picture in your apartment, and why you have a key to the neighbors house in the first place) so basically..the question is what happened that caused you to move in next door and how/why did the neighbor turn the childhood home into the fucking Winchester mystery house.
Ill be explaining all that in a long overdue theory video!
"We're playing as The Neighbor's son" - Captain Sauce. There is another possibility, you could be The Neighbor's younger brother.
No evidence to support that though, where as there's been piles of kids stuff in the game. I just go with the most supported option.
Actually, there is evidence to support the brothers theory. The strongest being their relative ages - there does not appear to be more then a 10 year age gap - for The Neighbor to be the character's father, he'd have had to sired him when he was about 10 or younger. If they were brothers the kid stuff could be from their childhood, or it could be from The Neighbor getting married and having a family of his own, and that we're The Neighbor's kid's uncle. The picture of The House in our apartment could very well be us as a kid of say 9-12 years old, and The Neighbor as an older teen or young adult of about 15-20 years old. He'd look mostly grown up while we'd look much smaller then him.
Another interesting clue that I think only The 8-bit Ninja's channel has shown, is in Alpha 4, if you follow The Neighbor around when he goes wandering down the street, you'll see a very interesting animation regarding him and the invisible wall. A good way to do this is to use the trainer and follow him from underground. Have the binoculars handy in case you need a better view. So The Neighbor's aware of the invisible wall and it's cannon to the game, not just a game mechanic to keep us in the playable area.
Why it's there, is a mystery. Did the Neighbor put it there to keep people out so he can do whatever uninterrupted? or did someone else put it there to keep The Neighbor and whatever he's doing in? Or did the Neighbor put it there because he's aware of something dangerous in the house and wants to keep it trapped in there and is trying to protect the world from something evil? Who knows?
Probably we won't know anything about that until the main release with this beta only adding to the mystery. If so good tactic by Tiny Build.
The point is, that there are a number of theories floating around about who the PC and Neighbor are to each other and the brothers theory is also quite popular and has strong evidence to support it.

Hold on, if you're the neighbor's son, then why doesn't he acknowledge you or even stop to think about you. First thing he does is kick you out. Is this all a dream or something? If it is, that would explain how the house grows or even the third person view. I have a theory where the shadow child is him in the past, and he is going back in his memory to save himself. I just got carried away sorry.

Captain i found the FEAR FACTORY, the room with the metal door and the wooden door just ahead of it, its there now. You have to play it despite the fact the beta is full of bugs and glitches, this game still has unanswered questions an keeps me hangin on. Waiting for more. I hope to see the story come together and make more sense, an i hope all he minigames we play have a connection of some kind.maybe with the cutscenes.
