Great video, Matt! It’s a great breakdown of proper squat form. I especially liked your advice to less-experienced lifters of not pushing core lifts to failure because their lifting form will break down. That’s when injuries happen, even for young guys. I’m 67, and especially when I do squats and deadlifts, I’m very focused on lifting form. Every rep. Every set. Every time.
No one knows strength like Matt Wenning. Little things like the arching of the foot mentioned in this video is the kind of golden advice only someone who really knows his shit will give you 💪🏻
I humbly and publicly admit I was wrong Matt, you told me once about the feet being on the outside like that an I thought you were wrong. It works and you were right an I was wrong, thank you for the info as always
You ever see many inversion injuries while "Spreading the floor" Matt? That cue has improved my squat for sure but I'm still conscious of that injury potential.
In my opinion a complete beginner system would be better than just a beginner squat program. I have all of Matt's programs and manuals but none of them is suitable for true beginners. No beginner can train by RPE or by the principles of Conjugate. It's a shame that one of the best coaches in the world doesn't offer a complete system for beginners where you can learn everything from scratch. I coach at a local school and I would love to have program or at least a template with Matt´s basic principles. I truly value his work but that´s very frustrating
@@WenningStrength the general foundation of fitness in youth is unbelievably, disgustingly poor. Like horrid. So a base of general fitness has to be addressed at all times. you can´t expect a kid to get stronger before having a general fitness base. This is where Matt comes into play in my opinion. We need a program like how to build a base of general fitness from scratch? I´m talking about young kids who never touched a barbell. A comprehensive guide to get the kids from point a to b to c. I would love to see that
@@WenningStrength my son is 16, can't do push ups or pull ups, just a few bodyweight squats with poor form. How is he supposed to start training before he starts conjugate? What are the requirements and do you provide a beginner program?
Excellent video. My 15 year old son is about the same size and just started getting him to do squats and his feet roll in the same way. Greetings from Scotland 🏴
Please matt can you make a video on how to lift with kyphosis and scoliosis. It would mean the world to me and a lot of other gym bros. Love your vids brother keep it up !
I'm 15 and I dont have any money I'm desperate for some help on this topic because I love lifting and I had to stop because of pain(I have kyphosis). I OHP 135 and then stopped. Also one plate on the weighted pull up. Please help me Matt I cant go on without lifting.
The one thing I "hate" about this channel (and a few others I had found now that I am trying to get back to the gym) is how bad the information that I have got before this was so wrong -- I am assuming given Wenning's background he knows his shit better than anyone .I think the most important thing when training is now to have a trainer that is this knowledgeable and detail orientated!! I have learned more from the last 2 weeks of watching his videos than I have from anywhere else...
Even till today with all this knowledge available for free 90% of gym goers are still training wrong and inefficiently, still practicing and preaching outdated conventional wisdom.
Matt i want you to know that I would've fought everyone in my highschool class including the staff naked to have this kind of coaching session with you at that age
@@WenningStrength i want you to know sincerely from the bottom of my heart for whatever it's worth that I MORE THAN APPRECIATE every single one of these videos to the core of my very being, you're giving us so much free game an I'm soaking it all up . @matt wenning whats the mini work out routine if he works out at 5am? Would the mini workout be 6-8 hours after at 6 -7 pm. the mini manual only mentions do at 10am to work out at 5pm, what about morning workouts early risers for priming?
Watching a master coach is amazing! Why does the lower body fix itself a lot of times when you fix the head and upper torso? Thanks for another great video!
I've taken so much real and advantageous knowledge from Matt and a few others on TH-cam but for me and my goals matt and ohearn are my go to. Awesome video and a question for anyone who will answer. What is a good quality squat rack where when you really load it up it doesnt feel like the cage is going to crumble? Along with one that has high load safety bars and accessories and one for a fair price if attainable thanks.
Why do you have him looking up at the flag? Aren't you supposed to keep a neutral spine, head in line, looking at the ground about 6-8 feet out in front of you? Or is it just a difference in methodolody?
I can name that tune in zero notes. lol. I mean it's very possible Matt can see technique issues with just the bar, but to have a guy bring that up and put it in the edit? A little narcissistic. I wonder why the kid is squatting in loafers.
@@WenningStrength Fair enough, my apologies. The shoe comment is legit though. They don't seem safe at all, especially with the heavier weight (a big kid like that is going to lift) and really driving the outside of the foot into the ground to create more of an arch. The kid has a good chance, if he really commits to powerlifting, of being a legitimate super heavyweight. He'd probably benefit from lifting in shoes similar to what you're wearing. Btw, been using the knees out cue on the concentric part of the squat, but had forgotten it might be better for the beginning portion (starting the squat by opening your knees). (I actually do subscribe to you because of the knowledge you share, not to mention your overall approach to powerlifting that is designed to keep you healthy throughout your career and well into your retirement. I was just having a bad day yesterday. :)
