This Fly Fishing RIG is super EFFECTIVE...unexpected results in tough conditions!

- I'm fly fishing a creek in Wyoming and have success using a rig that went against traditional wisdom. The conditions were tough...bright blue bird skies, low, clear water with not much flow and fish everywhere. I started with subtle rigs...even went down to a size 18 dry that I had success using in Colorado when conditions got tough but quickly learned a different tactic was needed. Definitely wasn't what I expected so maybe it'll work for someone else!
Check out the other parts from this week in Colorado:
Part 1: • The ONE reason this st...
Part 2: • Trout were HOPPING on ...
Part 3: • 40 browns in 4 hours.....

What about those Costa glasses? What style and lens color?
Been using Costa for almost 15 years. The fantails fit me the best so I stick to them. I like them in the yellow sunrise or whatever they call them. The yellow adds light in almost every situation, especially under a hat and really pulls out white or light wings on dries hoppers etc. I have them in in the amber/copper for sight fishing redfish and carp
I like how you are voicing over your videos and explaining your approach now. Your videos are awesome, but I know you get a lot of 'how to' questions, so the change is a good one!.
Great creek! Have a little footage from here in my last two Wyoming videos
Nice! Wyoming is THE Trout Destination
Agreed!
Quiet down, if word gets you’ll ruin it.
Shhhhhh 🤫
There are no fish there. Only dust and drunk sheepherders.
Well done good and faithful servant. Did you hear any bugling elk on this trip?
Fantastic.
Thanks for sharing, thoughts, scenery and fish.
Nice fish for such a small stream. Like you, I really hate it when I get stuck in the brush trying to get to the stream. Thanks for the video.
It sucks...all I see are places a moose is gonna charge me lol!
Great video Drew......keep them coming!
Also, I just noticed you have gone from 7k followers last year to 41k followers today. You've earned it - congrats.
My Goodness !!! Your countryside and creeks are unbelievable. If I was going fishing there, I wouldn't be able to sleep the night before from excitement , this has been a real treat to watch. Tight Lines from England (I fish Chew Valley Lake from the bank, using nymphs and hoppers ;0)) Richard
Thanks for the videos. You've motivated me to get off the couch. Planned a backcountry hike/fly fishing trip this weekend. 7 miles round trip. 😁
Drew, How does a person go about finding all these public spots, he'll the camping spots alone are a win!
Just pinned a comment with 1 of 2 vids I made that explain how I find streams and many other questions I get regularly.
Great stuff Drew! The quality of the video and your editing really shines. When Trout are keying in on hoppers, the splat of the fly landing is like ringing a dinner bell. Love it!
Thank u! I think this video does a good job showing that...the smaller the fly the less interested they were in it. Seemed crazy for those conditions.
thanks for the voice over commentary
You bet
The wife and I love your videos. We’ve been watching for years. Reminds us of how we travel and vacation/fish. Dunno what others think, but I wouldn’t mind seeing more of your videos if you were to film around camp. Just a thought/suggestion. I know it extra work though.
Anyhow, always love getting a notification you have a new upload. Enjoy the content!
I appreciate the watch and feedback. Just curious but have yall watched the extended vids from these trips. They are much longer...40-50 mins but I tried to add all the around camp stuff in those. Then pulled the shorter vids from it and added more fishing info. My goal was to capture camp and fishing but in different vids for each respective viewer. Heres the Colorado long vid. th-cam.com/video/D2f2vKiRcJg/w-d-xo.html
@@LooknFishy yep, I’ve seen every single one of your vids. Subscribed and notified for years 😉
Truly appreciate the support. Couldn't do this wo it!
@@LooknFishy we appreciate you as well. It’s kinda our little “getaway” while watching your vids. Also appreciate you never giving up what water you are on. Especially when you were in NM & South CO a while back. As I recognized a few of those locations and seen way too many over the years be published, tore up and fished out.
Enjoyed the video.
Man O' Man I sure love me some Big WY! GOod times and some really amazing streams to fish, I dont think a person cod fish them all in a life time, such a cool state to explore. That morning ant and action is the bomb to get thing stirred up. Happy Thanksgiving Drew, hope you have a good one!
I know I'll never get tired of exploring Wyoming!
Great video, as usual. I like your style. Keep it up!
Another really good video, Drew.
Thank u!
Amazing Drew!!!! Did you fish that stream last year?? That trail entry looked very similar to last year’s vid at the bottom where you had to turn right.. I’m not going to lie I liked your old format better you had more videos . For me it seemed like the trip went on for so long and we were more there with you, hard to describe. I know it’s easier for you to do it this way but it’s not the same experience just saying..
Would love to show you a ridiculous fishery in the mountains of UT. Very little known creek and folks that know of it travel states to fish it. Massive wild cutthroat and browns.
I'm game anytime you're ready! Sounds crazy fun!!
How many days do you like to have to make the trip out west worth it?
Nothin like slammin hoppers.
lets go
Do it!
What's the rig. I missed it
I assume it’s his normal dropper rig. He ties the dropper off the bend of the floating fly, hopper/ant in this case.
It was the hopper-dropper. Ime, in those conditions smaller flies and subtle presentations work best. In my first video from Colorado I had to go to a sz 18 dry to move fish. I started with an ant, went to the sz 18 dry...but nothing really worked until I went to the big hopper. That splat seemed to motivate fish. The exact flies are shown in the video prior to this...stream 3 from Colorado. I talk and show the hopper in detail. The perdigon is in the hopper dropper vid I linked at the beginning. I only use 1 style of perdigon.
@@LooknFishy awesome I'll try that
Where’s all the bears lol
All those trout cutthroat?
Cool spot drew, great fishing, and a nice dinner with a view.
Thank u. Definitely looking forward to more trips out that way!
I miss the way you used to edit your videos 😢
What do you mean? I'm always open to feedback. The long form vids are more like what I've done...no voice over...but they are much longer. Essentially they are these short vids, in order, wo voice over and the camp stuff included.
@@LooknFishy yeah, like the no voice overs and more footage of you wading upriver ,I really like the longer ones alot , thanks for replying drew , I learned a lot from your videos, just watching you wade up stream ,watching your casts , most videos there's always cutscenes and music playing In the background and to much FaceTime and talking and just too much editing, the simple videos are the best ,I love the natural sounds of the river and just watching you wade upstream , I could literally watch it for hours lol
Another great video!! What size nymphs do you typically fish with?
I'm all over the place from sz10 to 24 depending on the situation. I tried to go into more detail in that hopper dropper vid I linked in the beginning of this vid.
Ripper stuff D. I love the parts of the U.S. you get into, so different to downunder. Looks fantastic. I retired a while back and get about a bit in my truck, very different terrain here in Oz, but great trout fishing in recent years due to unusual rain. Always enjoy your stuff, thanks for sharing. Cheers PP
I visited Perth and Tasmania twice while I was in the Navy. It was super cool but I hope to see it as an angler one day!
@@LooknFishy Thanks for the reply Drew. I'm sitting in a lodge in the Snowy Mts fishing with my family this week. You'd always be welcome down here, mate. We actually have some pretty good trout fishing and no crowds. Cheers PP
