  • In part 1 of the 2022 road trip, I'm truck camping and fly fishing this amazing stream in Wyoming. It's the first night of the trip and I've only got a few hours to fish but the brown trout were very cooperative! It was a fantastic start to what will be a 9 week road trip thru WY, ID and MT.

@@LooknFishy 40 day camping/fly fishing trip? I’m sitting here on my ass wishing I could do that. I can if I knew how to go about it. I have more time than money but your trip must have been awesome. I like to go alone. I don’t want other people who’s opinion I have to consider. 40 days camping/fly fishing is damn cool. Wish you would tell us more about it.

@@marshallsage6816 i plan on taking a month and a half fishing trip up to Montana this coming summer alone as well, I would definitely recommend finding areas/towns to fish near and get food and buy gear that might break on you, as well as cooler set up + solar setup, unless you want to be eating dry goods/premade stuff your entire trip or buying ice every couple days and spending a ton of time driving back and forth from spot to town, these types of trips require a lot of time to plan and details to do trail and error on

Love these vids, Drew, allows me to vicariously re-live great times fishing out West both as a youth and a older guy. Never gets old and keeps a guy young. Love seeing the Pronghorns antelope! And those casts when a fish takes just after the fly lands sure are special. One I'll never forget was here in Iceland and the fly hadn't even landed before the brown took it! Glad you keep most of the names of these places quiet. All it takes is a name-dropper and things get crowded with water-frothers and inner tubers and then it's all she wrote. A bit of 4x4 driving and hiking and you're in paradise away from the crowds and that's what it's all about!

My brother moved to Kernville California in 71, so all through high-school I would spend my summer working and Trout fishing. The river was a block from the house. I ended up moving up there in the late 70's and fished my life away. The river is totally different then the streams you are fishing in, but now I am 67 and wish I was living your life, beautiful country and great fishing, thanks for taking us along.

Hoppers got big of wyo/co border this year. About 28years ago I guided in the Bighorns in wyo. Miss fishing alone. We’d walk in before dusk and crush deep cutts. Was so awesome, didn’t realize till later how great that job was. Never did it again, as a job. Volunteered teaching casting and tying to vets. Sweet stream.

I should clarify my comment. In the Bighorns in the late 90’s , I guided primarily horseback trips. I love Co/wyo. Probably going to get hammered with comments. All I meant was at least in the mid 90’s it was a gem that I’m glad I got to show some good people a few toad cutts. Before the ?. Go Wyo. !!!

I prefer the streams where the fish are really active on terrestrials. Spent some time up high in Colorado and it was a lot more about the hatch. Hit the hatch and any fool could catch fish. But in Northern Idaho, it's more steady, all day long, and not just during the hatches. In Idaho, it'd be insufferably hot almost everywhere, but you get up close to Lolo Pass, with your feet in snow-melt water, and your only worry is sunburn.

Any way for a very brief run down or video or description of your flies and set up? ie using a elk hair caddis and a perdigon about 16" away for water that looks like it's 2 feet deep. Something like that? Just trying to learn

Great video . One question why don't you eat any of these trout. Is it all catch and release ? The trout size in these streams if like Scotland will be determined by food and numbers . They all seemed to be roughly same size so taking some will make no difference. Fresh trout might be the nicest fish too eat there is .
