Thank you for letting us trout bums live vicariously through you. Your videos are what I need to get through the ice bound season. The beautiful fish and the scenery are tonic to my fishing soul.
Love the content. I lived in Montana for 2 years and fished all over western montana. My favorite place to fly fish is small wilderness streams Full of trout. Nothing like catching beautiful trout all day long and never seeing another person.
What great little adventure that you let us tag along on. We may never get to Montana to fish but I feel through you that I know what it might be like. Thank you so much.
I was born in Missoula, Montana, we travelled through out the State (he was a Journeyman Electrician so followed job sites-mostly dams). Because of this he made sure to we enjoyed all the outdoor activities Montana has to offer. I enjoyed catching beautiful trout the best. Thank you for posting this awesome video, stay safe and healthy my fellow Fly caster.
Spins me out . America has so many people . Yet so much wilderness. I'd love to go there one day . I'd happily skip the tourist stuff and check out what nature has to offer !
Another great vid Drew! What a beautiful stream! That first Cutty was just not going to make it easy. She clearly didn’t understand your ground rules that you were going to release her. She tried every trick in the book. As usual, you handled her well. Great catch!
That's what I thought while Drew was descending through that rocky slope. In my country (Spain) being bitten by a viper is rarely lethal, but an American rattle snake...is quite a different story: a blissful fishing trip may end up in tragedy.
You certainly worked for those fish based on the hike shown at the beginning of that video. I suspect those fish don't often run into an anglers, so might be more willing to "risk" taking a fly. Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Nice video . Awesome walk in . I can imagine what the colours of the bush and river is like when your there . All those fish are huge . Those trout look double the size of my local streams .also we dont get cut-throats here .
More streamside inspiration! Got to love the color of that holy water, man o man, an what a beautiful cut. Such a fattie. It put up and kept on keeping the fight, I thought for sure it was goner and would cut lose on that boulder, he was smart , but not smart enough, well done Drew!
Drew, what an incredible piece of water...those beauties gave you a workout! How many rods you go through bushwacking to those streams. It obvious you work to find unspoiled waters.
Oh man i know the feeling on all that bush whacking your doing out there....🤬 Sometimes its a log , rock hopping n crawling day , and the thorn ivy putting holes in my new waders ....but its worth it when you find the fish . Thanks for the videos 👍
You basically followed me on this trip just a couple weeks behind.. but i agree this was one of the prettiest.. the water was so different and cool looking.. i was july and august
If that's the river I think it is, your experience matches mine. Pound for pound, the cutts there are somehow stronger and harder-fighting than in any other river I've fished.
Kind of up in the air. Got some important family events that might keep me from doing any month long trips but might have a week or 2 free summer and fall.
Hey Drew, it may be time for a River-buddy to give you that 3rd hand you need with camera 🎥…I volunteer myself 😅. And will even travel with blindfold to your secret destinations
Besides grizzly bears, there are other wildlife on this creek to watch out for. The only mountain lion I have seen was on this creek. It was heading to the creek as I was fishing up creek towards it. At first I thought it was a deer so kept walking. When we keyed in on each other, we had a stare off as I slowly backed away. It left. But I was wary the rest of the day.
Gotta love my birth/home state of Big Sky country! If you don't mind me asking, where did you go in Montana? I live in the N.W. part of the state and we have some gorgeous cricks, streams and rivers....in fact, I have Kootenai river pretty much out my front door. But my favorite place is Fisher river, grew up there and fished my whole life there. Hope you enjoyed Montana, Idaho is pretty nice too!
People Montana has some of the most severe weather you can imagine. I called my uncle in great falls, before x-mas. 63 below 0!!!! That's without the wind-chill. So people tell the truth about Montana! Not just the good during the 2 days of summer.
Are you serious? The winters are colder in the Midwest. It has been getting miserably hot up here the past 2 summers with 100 degree heat and Forrest firea
The wife and I have been talking about making the move from CO to MT and after seeing this, I think we'll go up and start scouting the area in August. I'm hoping it'll be a little like CO was in the 70s when you had your pick of places to go where nobody else would bother you.
I have lived in Montana since the mid 70’s. Up until a few years ago you could be on many creeks in Montana without running into people. But it’s not like that anymore. I lived in Colorado in the early 70’s so think I know what you are saying. Montana has passed that stage and has gotten really popular since the pandemic plus we are suffering from the “Yellowstone” and its spinoff’s effect. Montana is quickly moving past how Colorado was pre 70’s. Not to say it didn’t happen before, but there is an increase in new parking areas along the creeks where people decided not to honor past tradition but just make their own to get in where no one else is fishing at the moment. On many creeks you could count on fishing the entire section from one traditional ingress spot to the next, but not anymore. Unfortunately, the influx of people has brought an increase in trash, fire rings, new dispersed camping spots, human feces and toilet paper in camping areas and along trails. I have fished a lot of the creek Drew is on in these videos for many years. The number of people on it has increased exponentially. I have walked more than an hour up a part of this creek only to have a person literally run ahead of me to beat me to the part of the creek that person decided he wanted to fish more than me, even though I was parked at a bridge crossing first and left a note on my windshield and on my rear window indicating where I was fishing. People used to honor when a car or two was parked in an area and move on so they let people have solitude and so they could enjoy some solitude themselves. While fishing sections on the trail Drew showed, I have had people both high and low hole me. I have had many similar experiences on other creeks. Most of them happening within the last couple of years. My experience is not unique. Montana has been discovered and is quickly moving from being “The Last Best Place.” Regards, The Creek Hag.
This assessment may seem cynical, but it is correct. There are many new residents and more and more traveling visitors. Everyone coming here in one form or another has a taste for the outdoors, is armed with digital inspiration (like what we all watch on TH-cam), and is guided by a detailed mapping app with GPS control on the phone in their pocket. Nothing is undiscovered, it's just "who can walk the farthest." People are not stumbling across great streams or hunting areas, they are specifically targeting pre-determined remotely scouted spots with surgical precision. It's our new world and the new setting which we all operate within to enjoy the outdoors. It is both awesome and sucky at the same time.
im sure you are very nice but we are not excepting out of state transplants at this time.. i hear wyoming is nice... fuck all these out of staters moving here
I pretty much know where you are. That area is prime grizzly and rattlesnake country. You can carry bear spray but what would you do if you were struck by a rattlesnake 15 miles from the nearest highway ?
Thanks for the great trip so for can't wait to see more of Montana. My brother and I started to fish smaller streams like this in Idaho last year and been having a blast. What size are the nymphs you are using. They looked like 14ish but the camera might make them larger. Thanks for any info and I know you are not using the same size all the time just a general size that you use on the small waters.
Absolutely LOVE the channel, 100% awesome!!! The locations are outstanding as is your commentary and so forth. But are you aware all your videos pixilate for about a second about every 10 seconds or so? Even your old videos show this pixilation. I just watched a bunch of other up-loaders' long videos of the outdoors and so on, no issues. Something is up with your camera and I can even see it a year ago.
Thats a poor representation of Montana. Its a horrible place to live! Its all cities and people everywhere. Dont try to make people think its nice here!
Sorry to inform you but TH-cam has added a "bobber" filter to videos to help identify those with inferior genetics or simple mind syndrome! Sorry dude but no bobbers in this video.
Thank you for letting us trout bums live vicariously through you. Your videos are what I need to get through the ice bound season. The beautiful fish and the scenery are tonic to my fishing soul.
Glad to help

What a great fight with that first Cutthroat. Love that emerald green-ish looking water. Incredible scenery.
That dude wasn't in the mood for a selfie lol!
What great little adventure that you let us tag along on. We may never get to Montana to fish but I feel through you that I know what it might be like. Thank you so much.
Beautiful footage Drew. Thanks for bringing us along.
Awesome scenery and a fisherman masterfully playing those big cutties. As always a gorgeous video.
That stream is SO BEAUTIFUL!!!I mean, Chrystal clear water. Breathtaking

Beautiful stream with amazing fish. Nicely done.
Glad I’m not the only one with struggles out there! This is real fly fishing lol. Thanks for sharing!
Haha...it truly is!
Strong fish, that water is unbelievably clear & beautiful. Watching this during the Super Bowl, enjoyed your video more 😊

That is a beautiful stream I wish we had them around here like that
Thanks Drew for Always making my day Better. God Bless You
Glad to hear it!
Great scenery and fish. Looks like a snakey place.
Had my eyes and ears open for sure!
That's what I thought while Drew was descending through that rocky slope. In my country (Spain) being bitten by a viper is rarely lethal, but an American rattle snake...is quite a different story: a blissful fishing trip may end up in tragedy.
Definitely no snakes, bears but no snakes
Beautiful. I would be carrying a 44 mag walking in those remote sections along that creek for sure.
Love that beautiful clear water, no wonder beautiful fish live there. Enjoyed watching, thanks for sharing drew. 👍
Definitely hard to leave this one!
Dam great trout an another great sport for a cabin 😁🎣🎣🐻🫎
Great stream! Some tanks in there!! Tightlines!
Well that is just incredible. Seems like it's getting better and better. Wow!
Not sure I'll ever top this trip!
awesome outing. thank you.
Cool video. Thanks for sharing. What’s funny about this one is as I was watching I thought “I wonder how often he gets broke off” well now we know 🤣
Haha it happens!
Beautiful water, landscaping, and fish. Makes me praise our Creator!!!
Couldn't agree more!
unbelievable water and fish! Great content! Cheers mate
Much appreciated!
What a great way to start super bowl sunday with super cool video. You are really rocking it this trip. Fantastic stuff.
Thanks a ton!
Glad you made it to my state .
There is some great fishing here and , beautiful water.
No doubt!

I definitely try to get into areas that others might not work for. Sometimes it pays off!
Gorgeous water and country Drew! WOW!
That one was special!
Man you had a good time! Inspiration for future adventures for me, definetly.
I definitely did!
8:48 was pretty awesome and so was the catch before it where the fish was able to regain control of the hole above on the rock!
That water is so damn clear!
Crazy water for sure!
Being a little sneaky, creeping up on them!!!....lol
First, and only, time I’ve ever had to use my bear spray was on this river. About two weeks after someone was drug out of their tent and killed.
Yes indeed.
You were probably ok. Bears in that area were only attracted to cyclists !!
Dang,those were some awesome fish!
Crazy fun on an amazing stream!
Thanx for sharing this vid, Drew. It confirms I already knew. Droppers are very usefull but you catch trout on the nympks.
That is true!
Nice video . Awesome walk in . I can imagine what the colours of the bush and river is like when your there . All those fish are huge . Those trout look double the size of my local streams .also we dont get cut-throats here .
U have inspired me to do the walk into my local gorge .

Right on! Super cool area!
Heaven on earth. Any sign of grizz back there?
Truth! Yes...here and other streams I visited also!
Awesome. I'm jealous of your lifestyle. You broke out!
Thx dude, definitely trying to!
that first fish was smart haha
Yes it was!
If that's the river I think it is, your experience matches mine. Pound for pound, the cutts there are somehow stronger and harder-fighting than in any other river I've fished.
That 10' 4wt is great for lifting line over rocks and mending.
More bratwurst eating trout. You need to see if Johnsonville will sponsor you. At least a free hat or something!!
Nice work again Drew
Nothing better then Western Montana. I’ll be up there Truck camping again next summer so hit me up if you back in the area 🤙
Awesome. Not sure what my plans are for this summer yet!
Excellent again Drew!! The weather is changing here getting ready!! Are you going to North Carolina again this year??
damn i love your videos. Thanks drew keep em coming. Will you be making another trip up north next year? would be great to run into you and say hi

9:50 - "Duuude come on." If I had a dollar for every time I say that when I'm out fishing!
Awesome Drew! Did you have any much weight on your nymph(s)? Do you prefer brass or tungsten, or does it depend? 😏
Do you no anything about the Yellowstone fly rod ?

Just know that drainage is full of blood thirsty grizz. No joke. Best to leave places like this off the map
Those were some real hawgs there, Drew. Glad to see someone living the dream ☮ Curious how many of these random streams aren't full of fish(?)...
I found a few for sure but not many that had no fish!
You ever come across any bears? Do u pack bear spray or a pistol?
I keep both on me!

That's weird about 5 times/year someone mentions something like that. I have my buddies look and they don't have any issues. Weird
nice
What pound hook lead do you use
If you’re not losing flies, you’re not fishing.
Have you targeted any bull trout?
No, it's illegal in all but 4 places in MT. And it was also spawn when I was there!
@@LooknFishy have you ever fished for them before? I don't remember seeing bull trout on your channel?
Montana is cutthroat territory
Montana is Grizzley country,,,be careful...

It's certainly getting that way
What a shame that dead bully. Most likely from some moron hooking and fighting it forever just to mishandle the last bit of life out of it.
Another great video.
I appreciate that!
