I think Ashizogi Jizo is s baby caterpillar thing because of Mayori's hatred of perfection. Both a baby and caterpillar are incomplete, imperfect, they have room to grow and change. Constantly evolving and becoming better.

That perfection speech is still my favorite speech.
Because of the whole “blade is me” thing it makes sense that he changes his sword a lot since he also changes his own appearance.
That last bankai was still unsettling as hell.
His penchant for preparing and adapting to any situation is rather interesting. Him changing his sword and his appearance is probably in the name of improvement. I must say that his speech is rather impressive considering the person saying it. We can apply this to many things in life actually not just science.

@@homunculus7 tbh it is meant to be something akin to volstandig, Uryu does sacrifice his powers to do it aswell so it's not just like a massive ass pull that makes him OP.
If anything Mayuori surviving is more of an ass pull given that half of his body is gone at the end of the fight. And he only survives cause he's got magic medicine that's never used again.

Mayuri, the only dude that would legit find a way to hack his zanpakuto. i mean the guy even had auto-parry installed into it.
Mayuri has the best win/lose ratio in the series.
He only lost once in the entire series and he lost to pure plot.

Nobody ever mentions that Mayuri's is the first Bankai ever shown in Bleach. FINALLY THANK YOU TEKKING
He becomes a pure savage in the Final arc. He bodies more quncies than kenpachi.
Well technically killing and collecting Quincy is his thing. No other shinigami has done as much damage to quincy numbers than Mayuri.

It's rather ironic too that towards the end he even begins using some quincy techniques.

Well, it´s kinda his thing to get technology by Dissecting bodies or gather Information. Not to mention that he seemed to killed most of the Last quincy outside of Silbern.

I really like how Mayuri is one of the only characters who actually gets a somewhat complete and fulfilling character arc across the series. Light novels aside that I haven't read, his little existential crisis moment with Szayel during the Pernida fight gives some great insight into his mind and the self-doubt he tries so hard not to show. Seeing how he's beginning to open up emotionally with his "new" Nemu in the epilogue also really makes me feel like he has some of the most significant character growth of anyone in Bleach. I think you're definitely right about him being one of Kubo's favorites.
I still need to read them myself, but I think that regardless of how people feel about the final arc, he seemed to show more aspects of his character there which really helped to complete him as a character. I suppose it would make sense that one who presents himself as such a confident individual would have his own doubts and insecurities. Part of being human I suppose and the soul reapers or Shinigami as they are called are human no matter how much they might deny it.
So we’re not gonna mention how he was the perfect counter for the first Quincy invasion?
His Bankai was the only one that couldn’t be technically stolen

I've always seen ashisogi jizo (spirit form) as representative of mayuri's child like curiosity towards discovery. Think about it. Psychopathic children rip the heads off dolls and dissect living insects. It is a child like approach to science with a load of psychopathy mixed in.

There was something I've noticed . . . .
Aizen, had a transformation that took the form of a butterfly and wanted to replace the Soul King,
Sternritter X had a transformation similar to Aizen's (in the beginning) and called himself a god,
The Soul King was a God like being in a cocoon,
And Mayuri, who was obsessed with creation, something Gods do, has a spirit that resembles a Butterfly . . . .
My Theory about “Ashisogi Jizou”:
I feel like Ashisogi Jizou’s core has to do with “metamorphosis”.
If you look at the Zanpakutou spirit and the original Bankai, Konjiki Ashisogi Jizou, it takes the form of a baby. The original Bankai we saw had the body of a caterpillar, while the spirit had a pair of butterfly wings.
Whenever you see a caterpillar or butterfly, it usually is used to symbolize metamorphosis or growth/change.
This explains why he’s able to change his zanpakuto so often and not have it compromise its efficiency. It’s able to take on these changes and adapt to however it is Mayuri is trying to change it. From the changes in its Shikai to him rigging it to explode without damaging it. There’s something at the very core of Ashisogi Jizou that allows it to be tinkered or tampered with much easier than other zanpakuto in such a way that it can actually be improved.
Especially with how the final Bankai change we see, The Demon Womb Wrapped in Disease(?), takes the form of what seems to be a large mother that gives birth to other Konjiki Ashisogi Jizou and they’re improved based on the data that is gathered during the fight.
Anyways, just my two cents.
I would love to see Mayuri's auto parry against someone fast like Ichigo and have his wrist tendons torn from the torc force.

Mayuri is constantly evolving his mind, since your zanpakto is you. It makes sense it constantly evolves as well (even though maturity is the one changing it.)

Honestly, the Vizards are so underused - and by definition, their zanpakuto too - that there wouldn't be a lot to say. Maybe Shinji's would get a decent video going, but the others are pretty flat.
Talyrion I get that but I mean, aside Shinji who can easily get a decent sized discussion, Rose and Kensei both have as much to talk about as Kaname Tousen I believe.

Mayuri is tied with Aizen for me as my favourite character. He is so comedic, yet incredibly dangerous. Easily one of the best captains in the show, and though not as powerful in terms of his physical capabilities, he is easily better than most captains. In the final arc, among the courtguard captains, he was the real MVP. If not for him several captains would be dead.
As for his modified bankai, easily one of the best abilities a bankai can have. I wish we could have seen more of it because in a way it is a dues ex machina type power, although it is limited on what info Mayuri feeds it- but can it for instance can it create something to deal with Lile's intangibility? I always wondered if it has hard limits besides the info aspect.
Mayuri did have a backup brain in a jar back at his lab in that movie where everyone forgot who Rukia was.
Mayuri is not a man who betters himself in area's he is bad at, but is someone who improves his strengths to the point it covers his weakness

@@KainaX122 Come to think of it, if I recall he was in solitary confinement in a place called the Maggots next before he was placed in Squad 12. He seemed to be the only one isolated there, I wonder what he did to deserve this. He is clearly a dangerous individual to those whom he designates as enemies and even to his own squad. I suppose it is just one of those questions I wonder about. I agree, easier to keep an eye on him to an extent this way and reign him in if he ever gets out of line. Better to keep an eye on these individuals then to allow them to move out of sight and out of mind.

The pernida fight is like the longest or one of the longest in the whole series. I swear Kubo spent so much time on that fight. It was awesome and unexpected.

Mayuri is the reason I got into Bleach. The first episode I came across was his fight against Uryu, and once I saw a giant bug baby trynna eat a man I had to read the series. Shame Mayuri didn't get more shine.

Mayuri can probably beat even Aizen, Kenpachi and Yamamoto provided he gets time to prepare for it.
The first time I saw anything from bleach was in a top ten, and the video showed the scene where he kills Granz, and since Granz had the pink hair and white uniform and Mayuri looked like Mayuri and did the whole "suffering for centuries" thing I assumed Mayuri was the main antagonist and Granz was a protagonist.
I'm not so into Bleach, but Mayuri is hilarious!! He definitely is my favorite captain from Gotei 13.

It was less the zanpakuto and more his modifications. Unlike Urahara whom actually did have an OP zanpakuto.

I think if and since theZanpakuto is Mayuri and an extension of his soul then Ashisogi Jizo is by nature an evolving sword. it probably has an affiliation to change and progress. the sword is constantly represented by a fetus, child and a caterpillar. all of which are growing, evolving, changing becoming something better than what they were, just like how Mayuri is.

What I like about Mayuri (Kenpachi to a lesser extent), is that unlike the rest of the captains that are essentially extremely lawful abiding at worst and benign at best, with the obvious exceptions being the extreme templar- Tousen, the enigmatic troll- Gin and Aizen who’s both one of the biggest monsters of the series and the most insufferable jerks. He’s definitely a mad sadist, but the same time he’s rational when everyone else is running with their heads cut off and has depth about the necessity of improvement and the dirty tasks needed to run the afterlife that isn’t exactly kind to everyone.
