We Are The Mid '90s (1994, 1995 & 1996) More Like The Early '90s Or The Late '90s.
    Early Mid '90s (1994 To 1996)

As 20 year-old at the time that was
A pile of rubbish musical wise
Crossover in. Genre and all them lumberjack shirts .
I always thought summer 94 /summer 96 music was poor.
    Keep up the videos 👍

I lost trust in Billboard around this time as "Basket Case" & "Interstate Love Song" are nowhere to be found on this list. Both songs were huge in November 1994. 1995 saw the absence of "You Oughta Know", "Hand In My Pocket", "Lump", "Buddy Holly." Billboard changed their system in December 1998, but by then it was way too late.

Killing Me Softly, Mr. Jones and Don't Speak were the most egregious, along with the first two Alanis singles. Iris happened when Billboard killed that trend, which coincided with the TRL days and Napster.

      because they didn't include airplay?

@@imalwaysright Prior to 1998, a song had to be released as a single to qualify for placement on the Hot 100, no matter how much airplay it received. In the 90's, labels held back issuing singles for popular songs so that consumers would purchase the albums. It worked. Matchbox 20 and No Doubt are good examples of bands that moved huge numbers of physical CDs because the songs that were played to death on radio and MTV could only be purchased on their parents album.

@@raymondtitano3819 true. I heard they'd also release limited quantities of some singles and force people to purchase the album. Changing the chart rules to include radio airplay exacerbated payola 😜😜😜😜

yes. The problem with sales charts is it represents a tiny percentage of the overall music listening market. Airplay has always been and will always be a far better representation of what is actually popular. The 90s billboard charts are total garbage and didn't actually represent the most popular music at the time. Hence so many songs on this chart me nor most of everyone else don't remember or never heard before. Go back a decade to the mid 80s and it's a complete different story. Far more songs on the chart are more known
