    Going through your 'hot 100 flashbacks', this is truly the quintissential playlist week it seems. A slew of Hot 100 debuts, artists at their peak, several 1 hit wonders debuting, peaking, a mix of everything you can imagine, just a unique blend.

    An interesting mix here of "last hurrah of the 80s sound" and "the 90s sounds in its infancy" but not quite there yet. It would be more defined in my opinion by the following year - 1992, and by 93 more of "true 90s". Nonetheless, great memories here and thank you for this awesome video!!

      @Starchaser relax, we’re just acknowledging her, there’s tons of other people who commented their favorite singer of the video. Why is it a problem with only her?

    • @bonehilda7626
      @bonehilda7626 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Starchaser Seriously? Nobody’s doing this for attention. People are allowed to praise her as much as they want to. Most of the time it’s just random commenters who happen to listen to her music and show appreciation. You’re acting as if it’s just one big cult praising her. Grow up.

    • @DeadGiveAway.

      @Starchaser Its not our fault the old fossils can't make a shoutout to their idol. Mariah continues to gain fans decades into her career when most of her contemporaries are settling with their older fanbase. Difference between Mariah and most of the artist on this list is that Mariah has longevity, she remained popular all through the decades, stay mad dahhling.

    In 1991 I turned 22 and I only recognized about 15 of these songs. Even the larger names like Celine Dion, I don’t remember those singles. I re-examined a lot of 70’s music in the 90’s because I was a child in the 70’s and if this music was popular in the early 90’s then that probably had a lot to do with it as well. Sorry! 😳

    • @paulsonj72
      @paulsonj72 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The lower rungs probably didn’t get the airplay the tracks near the top of the charts got. The Hot 100 depended on both airplay and sales. IIRC the Nielsen Soundscan System had just been introduced for sales at this time.

      @@Nature-Remedies23 hater, she sold 200 million records worldwide, not big outside the US my ass. 90% of these artists on this list are obsolete, besides her and other legends. Almost every single female vocalist out their has credited her as and influence, not to mention when Sony had to finalize their payola reports, her name was nowhere to be found. She’s well respected in the industry, 1/3 third of the “Vocal Trinity”. Stop spreading lies.

    Salt-N-Pepa's "Do You Want Me" broke a record for spending the most number of weeks in the top 40 without making the top 20. It spent 14 weeks in the top 40 and only peaked at #21. Not sure if this record still holds. It was in the top 40 from 5/11-8/10. If you look at the top 100 of 1991 it will look funny as most songs on the list made the top 10 and "Do You Want Me" made the list yet it only peaked at #21.

    • @olangill4531
      @olangill4531 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      MrShortWhiteGuy it’s the same with Paula Cole’s “I Don’t Want To Wait”, cuz that peaked at #11 on the weekly chart, but on the year end, it placed at #10, due to it being on the weekly for almost a year without reaching the top ten. Usually songs that break or achieve a certain record will place a high peak on the year end❗️

Losing My Religion by R.E.M. and Mama Said Knock You Out by LL Cool J were the only songs I really liked on this chart.

      @@paulsonj72 Grunge was never really mainstream, it had its own radio stations and charts. So trying to compare it to mainstream rock or pop is just not true to its history and how it was established in pop culture. Same with R&B and Soul, not mainstream genres, just subcultures of certain fads in time.
