  • What's up guys, the lbz has some issues.
I'm thinking it's time to pull injectors. Everything is looking like a issue with a bad injector/broken injector cup but what do you guys think the problems is? CP3? Bad head? Big scrims?

The drive seal on the injection pump (CP3) will fail, and allow fuel to seep into the crankcase, contaminating your engine oil. Replace the injection pump, and change the oil again.

Can you please buy back baby squat?

Whatever you do don’t believe It’s an injector problem. You’re gonna get a lot of guys saying it’s injectors, because they know about the LB7’s The LBZ‘s are an external injector The only physical way to get diesel in the crank case would be through the tip in which case it would smoke or have a bad or have a bad knock, you would know it. I wouldn’t go down that road and waste your money. It’s coming from somewhere else most likely the pump due to it being the only part in the engine that has a seal between the oil and diesel that I know of. I could be wrong about the pump, but I know I’m not wrong about the ejectors. I’ve had injector problems before on my LBZ and I guarantee you it’s not going to leak diesel in the crank case before it knocks or smokes

L b z's do not have injector cups!

  • @jeffreypope4175

Lbz taken the heads off I had the same truck .dont replace just one it going to be a lot of work u can do it .I never had luck with this.sorry 😢😢$$$##$$$

  • @dakotacase4046

Might as well throw a set of 45% over injectors in it.

  • @stone9882

Just go bigger injectors will help if you ever upgrade the turbo

  • @KalebLabbe

Also: get a piece of paper or paper towel and drop a drop of oil on it in the center. as it expands, if there is fuel in there the oil drop will have a "halo" around it as it expands.

If it is for sure fuel in the oil, I’m sure you have an injector going out. It is very common to replace one injector at a time in these and I wouldn’t hesitate to do it. If you’re second guessing it, take it to someone that knows what they’re doing to diagnose which injector is bad, then you can save money replacing it yourself. If you decide to replace all 8 injectors, go with NEW Bosch stock injectors and put oversized nossles on them. Just my 2 cents.

  • @connormullins7768

Lbz’s do not have injector cups, it is most likely a stuck open injector dumping raw fuel past the rings into the crank case.

  • @MrPAULONEAL

Place dye in the diesel fuel. Road test at operating temperature. Use a black light to check the engine oil

  • @williamlogan1775

Pull injectors. Replace all as a set. Dont cheap out. I recommened DDP

  • @kennethmoyer1980

I predict the next video will be you replacing the injectors!! I would definitely go with bigger ones in case you decide to go bigger turbo. That way you will be good to go. Love the videos, keep the great content coming. I look forward to the uploads.

  • @bigowen

If it comes down to the injectors.. yes it’ll be pricey but in the long run probably worth it, I’d say replace all of them at the same time. Then you’ll be sure and it’ll strengthen the motor for another 100k.+

  • @leviswanson2316

Mine was the return line. Easy to check and a common issue. There cheap from lds

  • @stephenmiller5023

Unfortunately there are any of several areas of concern for fuel leaks to occur, as several have mentioned. I have owned my ‘02 LB-7 powered GMC for almost 22 years now & have replaced CP-3 pump once & all 8 injectors twice now . Fuel lines should ALWAYS be replaced Internally at any injector swap as well for cheap insurance and the line retaining nuts torqued at install to specs . Many a diesel has lost its ability to lubricate vital internal parts because of diluted oil from either Diesel or coolant leaking internally, so tread lightly here and find a good Quality shop that has full G.M. Fuel system diagnostic capabilities and if too far to drive to comfortably then have your rig towed there instead. Hopefully you can & will get it fixed properly as these are great trucks ( I especially like my First gen Duramax as it’s EGR free & has fixed vane geometry turbo with much much less electronics to fail & cause issues as the truck gets older & milage & wear & tear accrues. Could be a cheap fix or expensive & only you can decide if it’s cost effective for ya. Good luck🤞👍

  • @buck1905

You may have a sticking injector …I would try using the ACDELCO injector cleaning method ..you can find tons of videos of how to do the procedure (and could be a new video idea for you to help others)…I’ve done it before as I’m a GM tech (9years) and it does work “most” of the time to clear up the balance rates or injector issues …before my time it was actually a tsb for the LLYs for hazing at idle and on start ups …honestly worth a shot for the price compared to injectors you can’t go wrong

  • @740-Diesel

Sounds like a hung open injector. Also, I do believe that the only RPO with injector cups was the LB7, so that can't be the issue. Don't really sound like CP3 but I could be wrong

  • @cesarlaso356

The CP3 is gear driven and right behind the oil fill. You actually have to loosen or remove some of the oil fill bolts to change the CP3. Check return rates on injectors.

Not a lot of experience on diesels but I do work on a lot of gas motors and I have seen where the injectors will just leak down after shutting it off and leave gas in the crank case could possibly be your problem being that diesels run way higher pressure and when you shut it off it just bleeds down on top of a cylinder and seeps past the rings and it could possibly be the reason of the haze that there’s a bunch of fuel sitting on a cylinder somewhere but like I said not a ton of experience on diesels I have pulled an lbz out of a wrecked truck before never have had to change injectors but I have seen it happen that’s just my guess going by what you’re explaining here. I’d recommend sending them off and having them tested to see if there’s one stuck or just leaking by
