- This is my first time hearing Hua Chenyu. Many of you gave recommendations from Singer 2018 so today I'm reacting to his performance of Ordinary Path.

Hua Chenyu is not an ordinary singer-songwriter, he's a storyteller, an exceptionally remarkable storyteller every time he sings. He's a rare gem that never ceases to amaze!
Hua Hua (his nickname) is a legendary performer ....so glad you've found him ! Some of his performances are quite intense and everything is amazing, especially from both his stints on "Singer." While a few rare singers have the ability to convey intense emotion to draw in an audience, Hua Hua goes even further by adding an outpouring of his soul -- nearly to tears -- yet keeping his voice together somehow. I've never seen this uncanny ability before. This is especially true in his performances of "Us" (about a ex-love), "Dad, I'm Home" (addressing domestic violence), and "I Am What I Am" (about not fitting in). He has plenty of fun stuff, too, like rock, rap, etc., often combining many styles in the same song, as in "Nunchucks," which catches many reactors off guard. Can't wait to see you discover more from him !! He's a true artist, in every sense.

Something good to know is that there is a Y.Tube channel "Hua Chenyu Eng. subs" which has on-screen subs for the Singer 2018 performances. 2 highly recommended performances are "Nunchucks",(his rearrangement of a rap song) where the lyrics are secondary to what he did with the song, and "Fake Monk". If you watch "Fake Monk", see the version on the Hua Chenyu Eng. subs channel with the pre-performance interview which gives insight into how the way he performed the song related to his childhood. You are pronouncing his name right - like in the Police song "Every breath you take I'll be Hua Chenyu".
He is an amazing talent; I found him just before the shutdowns, so I was able to get to know him during that time! You will enjoy this journey!

this man ( hua hua ... meaning little flower in Mandarin) was the grand winner of a music contest back in 2013 called superboy ... he then was groomed by many pros and is in my opinion the best Chinese singer in the world.. hold on to your hat this dive is as Dimashian as it gets

Hua is my favorite artist because he is so unique and full of surprises. His composing and rearrangement skills are tops. This is one of his more subtle but beautiful performances. Nunchucks shows how versatile he is in one song. Fake Monk shows a very dramatic story telling. Nanping Evening Bell is a duet with great harmony. Looking forward to more.

Hi ! Hua Chenyu is very talented and gifted. He got a warm and gorgeous voice. He has good singing skills, plus a large lung capacity. And he is versatile. I love it so much!
I highly recommend his original song’Qi Tian’ that was his original song, written by himself. He composed it for a movie, it's a story about Monkey King. This song presented his beautiful voice and different singing skills. With some different singing elements throughout the song, which showed his extraordinary creativity.

Thank you for a really great reaction, I fell in love with this wonderful singer a little while ago and he never ceases to amaze me with his passion and interpretation of music. Hua CHenyu is by far a more visceral and emotive singer than any other I have heard, but he can also be playful and has fun with some of his songs too. I'd like to see you react to "Seven personalities" "Child" "I really want to love this world" or for a bit lighter "Madhouse" They are all very different to each other and each has it's own distinctive beauty.
You can't go wrong with Hua. He's so versatile. He is quite whimsical at times, yet still very lyrically deep. I think you would love "Child".
"Qi Tian" is my favorite song though. It's insanely beautiful one moment, then...plot twist! Lol. Would love to watch your reaction to that one.
"Fake Monk" is beyond anything I have ever heard or watched. If, when you decide to react to that one, make sure to get the pre-show interview where he explains why he chose the song. It's intense, but worth it.

Thank you for a wonderful analysis of this amazing artist. Hua Hua is a controller of crowds, the way he sings, performs draws you into his orbit and you are mesmerized. He is an incredible storyteller and sees his vocals as an instrument to deliver the message and emotions of a song. A lot have been said about Hua Hua in other comments; suffice to say he has captured my heart through his music and just his kind and gentle soul. I have subscribed.

CHILD is another song of his that will leave you in awe.
What I love about HuaHua comparing to many others participating in such a type of competition shows - he chooses songs to serve them rather than choosing songs that can serve him (to expose his skills). The best possible attitude.
You will be very busy going through every single live performance of Hua without regrets.
I feel like you'd be blown away if you watched him perform "Child" or perhaps "I Am What I Am". You might like that one, too. Both are from Singer 2018 like "Ordinary Path". Personally, I'd also love seeing you react to his newer or brand new songs: "I really want to love this world", "Flower in a Small Town" or the Healing Trilogy (I really want myself back, Meet when Flowers Fall, Let's go watch the sunrise together). On second thought (two weeks later *lol*), if you should choose to react to his performances again, apart from the aforementioned "Child" I think you simply have to watch his "Fake Monk" performance (with the pre-performance interview to understand where he's coming from), if not as a reaction video than just for yourself because I feel like you (generic) cannot fully understand what he's capable of without having seen him perform "Fake Monk" on Singer 2018.
What you said is very true. You used the word ‘artist’ which is true of Hua Hua in most senses of the word. I am constantly moved and amazed by the talent of this man and listen to him everyday - he is a one off and I’m so glad you have listened to him and look forward to more. Best to use the Hua Chenyu English Subs channel as most of his songs are there. In terms of next, personally I would suggest going back to the start of his time on singer 2018 (Qi Tian) and working forwards as there is a theme and progression to his performances. The other very important thing is that for some songs you must go for the longer versions that include introductions or interviews as it will massively enhance your experience (eg. Fake Monk). On another note it’s been a little while since you did Zhou Shen, can I suggest Ring the Doorbell from Singer 2020 (Hua Chenyu won that year) it’s a stunning performance.

Hua Hua came second to Jessie J in Singer 2018 competition. Most "Martians" (Hua Hua fans) would say he was robbed. 😂 Maybe try "Nunchucks" to see a bit more breadth to his abilities. He used the 2018 Singer Series to tell HIS story over the weeks, as he had lived a different and quirky life compared to others. He started with Qi Tian asking why he'd been born to live differently, "Child" his lonely and bullied childhood, right through to Final saying "I am what I am".. accept me, foibles and all.

I love Hua Chenyu. "Nunchucks" will really show you what he can do and it will be hard not to start moving. In "Fake Monk" you'll hear some sounds you've never heard in a song before. He's amazing and quite the performer.
You can't go wrong with any live performance by Hua Chenyu, but "Nunchucks" probably gives the best sampling of the incredible range of his talents.

Hua Chen Yu is one of a kind. I'm so happy that I found him. Flightmode, I want myself back, Nanping evening bells, Black and White artist his live performances, the lyrics, the voice (-range), in he raps or whatever genre and style...you will never know him because he always comes up with something new to surprise you...there are lots of videos with eng. subs. It seems you can't do anything wrong with "ordinary path". It's from Pu Shu...another great singer in China with great lyrics and beautiful personality. There are lots of covers, even from Westlife and every one is beautiful...as the lyrics are, too. But Hua Chen Yu sings it with so much intensity that it goes deep under your skin.
Good, Hua Chenyu is one of my favorite singers, with Aurora, Diana Ankudinova, Dimash and some others!
About this performance, it is good, but definetly not the style who make him shine at most, maybe it is a very famous chinese song, i dont know, he has a lot lot lot lot fantastic performances to be explored!
The most popular for reactions are 'Fake Monk', 'Child', 'Nunchucks'... but almost all his performances has something surprising!

I am SO HAPPY you discovered this GREAT artist!! I just found him 2 months ago. Dimash and Hua are my 2 MOST fav artists of ALL time!! Thank you. If you review FAKE MONK, could you PLEASE include the VERY short pre-performance interview in which he explains why he wrote the song, how it is from his personal experience; otherwise, it will not make as much sense to you! As a half Asian American born person, I don't understand even what they are saying most of the time unless there is eng subs, however, I FEEL very deeply what they are saying more so than from any other singers I've ever heard. I LOVE details as an artist myself. thank you for noticing and appreciating the very fine details. Details make all the difference in everything in my view!! This is not one of his BIG performance or BIG vocal songs, but the meaning is profound!! thanks again!
Try "Fake Monk" which is almost musical theatre, for HuaHua try reacting to videos with lyrics as those are half the value of his performances, and ordinary path was one of them, "Fake Monk" also.

Hua Chenyu made his debut at the 2013 Superboy contest when he was 23. His entrant number was 8042--he won. He composes many of the songs he sings, with variety of vocal styles and techniques. I think that he is fabulous. I love his performance of the Jay Chou song "Dad I'm Home" on The Next EXO Lay Challenge show (Season 2, ep. 8 at time 1:00:36. Hua Chenyu is a unik artist but you can't place him in one genre. Every song and performance are different from each other.
Therefor you can't think that you know him after a couple of songs.
He is a great singer with a breathcontrol out of this world. And his performances is really strong in every song.
You can pick any of his songs from Singer 2018 or Singer 2020 and all is good.
But I will give you another suggestion. It's from a show called "The Next" where Pro's help young artists in there beginning. They get an old song and then they have 24 hours to arrange the song and create a performance.
In the song he helps Su Shiding with a song called "Nanping Evening Bell". Observe his superlong belt while she is singing.

He's definitely 1 of those great singers, whenever he perform he's like so into the song that at times it's feels like he's in trance. He did appeared again in Singer 2020 with Zhou Shen that you did reaction before. There are actually more amazing songs from Singer 2020 from Hua ChenYu and Zhou Shen...

If You like his "uuuh uuuuh", You should react to "Child", it is completely beautiful; or "Fake Monke" that is mesmerizing, it is not so easy to understand but it is very interesting. Both of them are covers. He has his own compositions and all of them are masterful. Qi Tian, Quasimodo's gift, Madhouse, Bullfight, Seven personalities, Black and white artists, I really want to love this world, I really want myself back, Ashes from fireworks, Giant deer, Aliens, etc... Your last point about this singer focusing on what he's saying rings so true! You can tell he exercises incredible constraint in order to tell a story even though he clearly has the techniques to go overboard/heavy-handed.
He is a rapper but watch an emotional performance called “Dad I’m home” on a keyboard.

He's No.1 in China for good reason. Prolific, talented artist that performs and takes a hold of you like no other. Glad you discovered him, be prepared to be stunned. Many unforgettable performances from the Singer 2018 season....Qi Tian, Nunchucks, Child, Mountain and Sea, Daddy I'm Home, and the iconic Fake Munk. His 2020 performance of Bullfighting, live on Singer is also breathtaking. These are his live performances not to be missed.

Qi Tian, Seven personalities, Bullfight, Quasimodo's gift, Madhouse, Conversations with childs of Mars, Black and white artists, etc. He can also rearrange songs and he makes them better than the original version, from my point of view; Child, Nunchuks, Fake monk among them. Each one you choose he will surprise you. Every time he opens his mouth to sing, the magic begins.

Actually if you want recommendations there are two videos that I'd be really curious to see your take one. One is his cover of the song "The Child", also from Singer 2018 (th-cam.com/video/pq5pYMgL17Y/w-d-xo.html). It's a performance full of restrained technique and has a lot of very clear close ups of his face while he's singing. He has some weird tongue positioning, especially when he belts, and that video shows it really clearly. The second is his song "Seven Personalities" (th-cam.com/video/U_HR6ACvedE/w-d-xo.html). He presents several different voices through that song, including using some Mongolian singing techniques and even imitating the sound of an electric guitar at the end. There's something a bit self-destructive about the way he pushes his voice and I'm not sure what to make of it, but I love his work.
