It's interesting how you mentioned that he combined the soft and powerful sides of himself in one song, because the lyrics are literally saying: "Which Kung Fu weapon is my favorite? It is nunchuck, because of its hardness mixing with softness." So his entire performance is based on the theme of this song. He is artistically embodying Nunchuck and the spirit of Kung Fu. Kung Fu is very powerful, but must be used by kind-hearted people for righteous purposes. Just brilliant!
Yep. This is a concept song. Nunchuks are both "hard" and "soft," with two hard wood pieces connected by a "soft" rope. And Kung Fu styles are divided into "hard" and "soft." And he is contrasting "soft" traditional Peking Opera to "hard" Western rock/rap.
His entire performance is based on this dichotomy. Those hand gestures you noted are vaguely reminiscent of Chinese Opera hand gestures.
It's pure genius.
I love Hua Chenyu, he is one of the rare artists who performs his songs with his mind and body as well as his voice.
He performs every song differently to bring out an emotion or quality from the music.
He is an amazingly musically gifted singer, instrumentalist, composer and arranger, but I love just watching his performances, he shows so much emotion it can bring you to tears.
If you see "candid" footage of him you will see a very different person who is quite introverted and humble, but when he performs he owns that stage.
Hua Chenyu is the epitome of Stage Presence. You won't find another performer with more charisma and talent for singing, composing, and staging. He's currently one of the biggest stars in China. I hope you react to more of his work. He is hands-down my favorite performer, and there are many, many fans who agree.
Just an fyi....his tv show performances usually require overlays, but concert performances are often safe. You can find good videos with subtitles on channels Experience Hua Chenyu or Hua Chenyu English Subs.
Now this is going to get interesting. If you are namely reacting to stage presence, Hua is second to none. His entire body, his gaze sings out what he wants to portray. He brings out a different persona in every performance. He can be a smirky boy in this, and an child-like angel in next, a mad man in another. His versatility knows no end. Yes, I don't even have "Nunchucks" in my personal "Top 50 Hua Hua Performances". 😂 He has made me cry ("I am what I am" /"Dad Im home", "Us" ). He's made me laugh ("Skateboard Shoes", "Mice love Rice", "Black & White Artist") 😂. He's made me think "I really want to love this world". And he's made me swoon "Perhaps Love" And that doesn't include is Rock and Rap songs which are either stunning compositions, or music arrangements. And then there's his accoustic "Contra in the Wild". His Music Arranging, musicality on multiple instruments. His Mentoring of young singers. His acting and willingness to laugh at himself on Ace v Ace. And his unexpected competitive streak in Ace v Ace. 😂 He reminds me of the old fashioned Entertainers who... Did it all... Brilliantly. No one to touch him now.

beyond agree!! I am continuously amazed every single time he performs and i can never get tired of his vocals. Just cannot imagine how he makes certain sounds come out of his throat and the fact that most of the time I prefer to watch his performance rather than simply listen too.. says a lot about his stage performance

This is IMO the greatest performer the world has seen for decades. Whats even more amazing.. practically all his performances are as brilliant as this or even more. The presence and the connection with his audience is always there. Always true to himself. I just love love love his music aswell. Watch «Us» from Singer 2020 and you will have a field day. Actually you can pick anything… preferably his own compositions ant btw concerts are less likely to be blocked.
I am a 65 Y.O. American and he is one of my favorite performers/vocalist in this world.
In the show he debuted, he is consired as “wired and overly confident” by many judges except for one who really likes him, so he got the chance to continue the competition. He is like born confident in the stage, but he is actually kinda shy in life.
You have to stay with Hua Hua for a while, You are in for some real surprises. When he gets emotional, you will cry with him. When he is on a live stage in a huge concert, he is brilliant in getting the audience to participate. This is the very tippity tip top of the iceberg.

The Chinese Singer Show is a competition between excellent established singers. In 2018, each participant could sing two of their own songs, the rest were covers. He placed 2nd behind Jessie J. of Great Britain.
In 2020 he competed again. All songs were freely selectable. He won the competition. Hua Chenyu is fire!!!!!🔥

What a brilliant performance from an incredible artist, musician, composer. Hua Hua (his nickname) has charisma and confidence galore...he is a powerful fearless performer on stage, with very strong emotional expressions of any song he takes on. Nunchucks wonderfully shows his vocal range and versatility, his incredible ability to transition from one genre to the next seamlessly. He changes his persona to match the emotions and message of the song. I love what you said..."What kind of magic powers do you have??" Exactly...he has drawn us all into his aura and he is mesmerizing to watch. Thanks for a great review...I would love to hear more from you on more of his performances.
If you look back at your past reactions to K.Z. Rolling in the Deep, and other reactions from the competition The Singer, you will see Hua sitting there back stage. He won in 2020. *Jackdraw Boy* from that year was 🔥.

Thank you for reacting to my Nr1 favorite artist. Hua Chenyu is the king of the stage, one of the most prominent musician/composer/performer, an actor/singer. All his performances are thoroughly thought through and he never fails to convey his emotions. You can never go wrong by choosing him. Welcome to the wonderful world of Hua Chenyu. Truly he is magic. This is just the tip of the iceberg. It is hard to put one's finger about what it is about this artist that is so appealing, he is so multifaceted. The more you listen and watch, the more you have to see. You never know what you are going to get. Please look at some other performances, especially some of the work he composes himself.
I’ve listened to this part a few times on different occasions and I always get goosebumps from the transition and whole aura with the (i think) traditional Chinese instrumental in the background...can you recommend anything else of his that’s similar to this bit or any other artist’s songs?

I've never, NEVER, in my whole life came across any artist who commands stage better than Hua Chenyu. His whole persona, body language, voice tone, expressions... everything about him changes depending on what song he does. Sometimes he looks silly, sometimes he looks pure, sometimes he is a rock star, sometimes he is a dark rapper, sometimes he is a lost child, sometimes he is a clown, sometimes he feels non-human. He is just as comfortable coming to 90k people stage wearing a suit as he is in pink funny dress just to represent a song.
You were just like me. I love Hua in every performance which is always a magical experience. Pure art.

I was entranced the first time i saw a performance from Hua Chenyu, which was the same one as your introduction to him: Nunchucks. PLEASE do more because he seriously has so many different styles of performing, always with insane stage presence!! I would suggest "Child" or "Ordinary path" next!!

Wow.. what to say. This guy has your attention from the time he starts singing. In the Palm of his hand. Great Performance. I love the way he leaned over and open with the mic, somthing an artist would do that been doing this for 20 yrs. Definitely a power move. And the almost Gaesha like softness and movements. As others have said the bring to life the softness and harness of the Nunchaku. Beautiful! The Performance was great....perfect!
Hua Chenyu has been one of my top favorites since i first heard him so unique and feels every single bit of emotion in every song he sings he has made me cry so many times haha i will forever love him and i will show his songs to my children and my grand children and i have even showed him to my dad and he likes him lol ♥!

His stage presence makes his live recording as good as any MV could be. Most of his songs does not have a mv, we fans just watch the recording of his live performances, which we prefer over MVs. But thanks to that concert tickets are so hard to get damn it😂. People who’s been to the concert says it’s a totally different experience from watching a video.
As with Dimash, Hua Chenyu (nick name is Hua Hua) is a born performer! He is an exceptional singer/songwriter. He pulls tens of thousands of fans in every concert. He has filled The Birds Nest Area, which has a 90,000 capacity, three nights in a row, sold-out in record time. He has written 100's of songs (melodies) and participates in the writing or back story to many of the lyrics to his songs. I'm sure his fans will refer you to dozens of his most notable songs and I look forward to you upcoming reactions, just as I do to your Dimash reactions!

Hua Chenyu is my 2nd fave only to Dimash Qudaibergen who is my first. Hua Hua is a mad genius and he is the most amazing performer.

Welcome to Hua Chenyu, master of the stage! Good point about his movements all coming together at the end, like the music does. Every element is chosen to tell the story, and he is 100% in character. He's shy and humble off stage, but he looks calm and confident in Nunchucks to show the character in the story: the confidence of a trained Kung Fu warrior and the calm of a Tai Chi practitioner. His body movements are based on Tai Chi and his hand movements are based on traditional Chinese opera. He chose rap and rock for the weapons training. And so on. The audience is right there with him the whole way. He's good.🔥😎 "Qi Tian" is the usual next song. (Don't do Monk yet or Dad. They are brutally sad, and many fans don't watch them.) I'm already subscribed and will turn on your notifications.
When you have a BILLION people to choose from, you're bound to find a genius or two!
I'm 70, and I've seen a lot of great performers over the years, but I've never seen anyone to equal Hua Chenyu. I have no doubt that he's a musical genius, and every song he does is full of surprises. They don't all jump from genre to genre like this one; the surprises vary. Sometimes he doesn't do songs per se; he does singing performance art. People will suggest you watch Fake Monk. Please hold off on that. It overwhelms some people so that they never want to watch him again. It's brilliant, one of my favorites in fact, but it's challenging. Try something more palatable, like Bullfighting or even better the New Year's performance of 7 Personalities (here's the link: th-cam.com/video/U_HR6ACvedE/w-d-xo.html.) He owns the stage at every moment. FYI offstage he's shy and modest. He grew up mostly alone and didn't develop very good social skills, so he's uneasy around people. Put him onstage and he's a Titan. Please keep watching him. I subscribed in the hope that you will.

Agree with on Fake Monk. I was put off at first but that piece actually made me think and try to decipher what's the message he is trying to get all of us to see. So I braved a couple of more rounds of this song and found that it has so many rich layers and worthy of all the praises. No one dares like Hua dares to do on stage for the sake of delivering art he believes in. I salute that.
@@yuatyilee I had pretty much the same experience. First time through: Too creepy. Didn't plan to watch it again, but it haunted me. So I watched second time and realized it was performance art and brilliant. My daughter can't hear it, says it gives her nightmares. I'm with you. Praise-worthy.
@@JerisEve it actually surprised me that the audience was so accepting and voted for him in that round. I think he won that round too. He too was pleasantly surprised by how broadminded the audience are. And I have to take several times of re-watch to get the essence and impact.

Loved it! Whilst Hua Hua is a phenomenal vocalist, composer and musician, I believe his greatest skill is his stage artistry. He is, in my opinion, the greatest exponent of stage performance working today. His own concerts (called Mars concerts) are masterpieces of performance art, both intricate and spectacular beyond belief. You have only scratched the surface - please react to his performance of his own song Qi Tian on the same show, Singer 2018. Then any of his other Singer 2018 performances, any recent Mars concert performances... his versatility will amaze you.

Hua's stage presence is very pronounced, commanding and outright unique. When he is on stage, hard to look away from him. He is a very creative artist. He actually coordinated this whole song's stage show from lighting, sound, the side singers, especially that one hands up chorus and on top of that, he readapted this song from an original song and made it totally out of this world. Own it! Own the audience. See how fired up he got his audiences. Lol. P/S: He is also a very good composer. He produces all of his own work.
I like your reaction and thoughtful sharing. I think you would be interested to try Fake Monk by Hua Chenyu. First round hearing it I cringed and was shocked. Then listening to it more I find that it has so many layers to uncover.

Hua is the definition of stage presence. You will never be desappointed with his performance, I suggest that any song you choose, try to find with subtitles because you will understand more of his stage choices. I recommend Exaggerated, Dad I'm home and Seven personalities. But any new song is a new adventure with him, never the same.

Like many other artist. He is confident on stage, then is a shut in with his personal life. He has trouble going out in public, and interacting with people. Very very shy off stage. This is common with other artist and actors.

Hua Hua 💖 is a great composer - singer - performer. Please react to "Jackdaw boy", "Madhouse", "Seven personalities", "Qi Tian" or any of his own songs. They all are masterpieces. Dang this is better than any performance I've seen so far truly amazing. You can really feel the emotion through the body movement, expression and music, really strong stage presence. Never knew you could feel the rock spirit through a screen. That's one concert I wouldn't mind paying to watch live if I had the chance.

If you want more into his stage presence, you should try reviewing his performance on "the fake monk". It's really a piece of art. Knowing his past on depression, and how he overcomes it and reach the stage as a singer/performer is an amazing story.

I've been watching many China tv shows. He was on "I Am A Singer". His concerts on youtube are really, really great. All of the Chinese singing shows are worth looking at. Those shows have the absolute best talent on their shows. BTW he didn't win on this year's show, Jessie J won. He wins the following year!
