@@JosiahBriggs He didn't use that phrase though. The exact phrasing of the deal starts in the rooftop scene. "How's about you let me give you a hint huh? I only ask is a small FAVOR in return." And then, when the laptop is ticking down, he clarifies, "All I want is a puppet." So, due to him smashing the laptop and revealing it was McGucket Labs, that did give them a hint.
One of my favorite episodes! Also, The Book of Bill came out recently. It discusses his origins and other dark secrets of the show. And if you buy journal 3, Mabel says that she found a note at the bottom of the car seat by Bill. Saying how fun it was being in a human body and that there were many ways of torture. He said he was going to throw Dipper's body off the water tower when he was done. And then finished the note off with "Want to join him, Shooting Star?"
NGL, the moment I saw Gabe, I also thought he was an adult and like the Wendy crush for Mabel. Plus, he's doing performances for kids, usually jobs for 16-20s. But when it cut to a frame where we see his height, I just laughed so loud. He looks so goofy.
I love when Bill asked "Who would sacrifice everything they've worked for just for their dumb sibling?" and you guys looked at each other and said "ME!". Awwww! 🤗
In the third journal Mabel put a note that bill left her when he was in Dipper's body, in it he was saying how after he gets the journal he'd take Dipper's body and throw it off the water tower.
Answering what you were saying at the end of the video, the reason why Dipper doesn't want to talk to Stan about it is because Stan made him promise he wouldn't get involved solving the town's mysteries anymore (when they had the little moment where they both crossed their fingers in the end of the zombie episode)
I love when they do funky things with reflections. They did earlier with the shapeshifter and the frozen look of terror shifting to Dipper staring in horror.
shapeshifter's frozen impression is some way a prediction of dipper's future.in the Northwest Mansion Mystery episode 2x10 dipper actually becomes a wooden statue posing the exact impression shapeshifter did.
@@FurbyPurrson not in some way, literally 100%, and also a spoiler lmao. More spoilerly stuff below ⚠ The shapeshifter tells Dipper that's the last form he'll ever take because to him, it literally is. The shapeshifter had no way of knowing Pacifica would actually break free from Preston's control and save everyone. Dipper and Co *should have died that day.*
I love this episode!!! ‘Sock Opera’ is actually a play on ‘rock opera’ which is a rock album with a story or a musical of rock songs, like Pink Floyd’s The Wall, or Jesus Christ Superstar ^-^
Very not so fun fact about this episode! In one of the IRL journals (I think journal 3) theres a note from bill that he wrote to mabel when he was in posession of dippers body, The note said: "Note to self: Posessing people is HILARIOUS! To think of all the sensations ive been missing out on- burning, stabbing, drowning. It's like a buffet tray of fun! Once i destroy that journal, i'll enjoy giving this body its grand finale- By throwing it off of the water tower! Best of all, people will just think pinetree lost his mind, and his mental form will wander in the mindscape forever. Want to join him, mabel?" She found this note in the car after the episode was over. Bill was planning on using dippers body to make it seem like he comitted suicide and would probibly attempt to strike a deal with mabel to get him back or reunite with him, hence the "Want to join him?"
This episode had some of the more ominous coded messages to discover. In the journal during the montage: PURE ENERGY, NOT SKIN AND BONE RISING LIKE THE SHEPARD TONE Credits: WE’VE ALL HAD SOME FUN TONIGHT, BUT LET’S NOT FORGET WHO THE REAL "PUPPET MASTERS" ARE: REPTOIDS WHO HAVE INFILTRATED OUR GOVERNMENT Numbers end card: NO PUPPET STRINGS CAN HOLD ME DOWN SO PATIENTLY I WATCH THIS TOWN ABNORMAL SOON WILL BE THE NORM ENJOY THE CALM BEFORE THE STORM
In southern oregon not too far from the location that probably insured the shack, there is a group called Puppeteers for Fears that makes lovecraftian puppet rock operas. Highly recommend.
Dipper's outfit in the play is from the killer preacher in "Night Of The Hunter (1955)". I recognized it on my own then Alex Hirsch confirmed it on the bluray commentary track a few years later.
@@SputnikSpyglass they got away with whatever they could! Night of the Hunter is pretty great, it's in the Criterion Collection. Because it's old it's not graphic per se but very, very dark
I actually kind of liked Mermando. It was the one relationship she had that was mutual and fairly kind. But puppet guy is nuts! This is one that I think is often cited in negative views of Mabel. But a part of me thinks Dipper was being a bit weird too here. That said using the journal as a prop was really dumb even for her.
I disagree with saying Dipper was dumb making that deal. He was exhausted, frustrated and under great pressure from being made to believe he only had a few minutes to make the decision before losing everything. Bill had to wait for an opportune moment and play every card he had to trick Dipper into making a deal with him
It's interesting how Bill tries to twist situations for manipulation Like he showed examples of Dipper doing the right thing but he calls it him sacrificing for Mabel Like she got kidnapped by the gnomes and he went to save her I don't really see how it's relevant Or when they helped save Mermando and release him back to his family Is that really selfish 🤔he did mention his kind must be unseen which is why she had to try to avoid anyone, also Everyone broke in that night😂and Pool check is definitely unstable Or the time travel episode, the normal flow of time was Mabel gaining Waddles and well we all know Dipper and Wendy was not gonna become something So he just fixed what he changed It's really funny to think about
This episode is the beginning of why a lot of fans kinda don't like Mabel very much. They find her very greedy and self centered around her crushes. Personally I don't mind her boy crazy side, but it's stuff like this that turns people off of her.
It's admittedly really funny that ppl saw Bill go "wow when has your sister done anything for you" as this manipulative tactic and the audience ran with it as fact
Which I gotta say, I don't entirely get in this episode lol. Mabel and Dipper are both stupidly obsessed with their thing, Dipper's thing just happens to be something we really care about, so we don't care that he's obsessed (and that's not just this episode). Additionally, while Mabel should've helped Dipper like she said, she did say she'd help after her show which is totally fair considering there was no time limit for the laptop, but there was for Gabe (who I hate tbh, Mabel deserves way better). Even when she backpedaled after hearing Gabe's comments on the other show, she wasn't that much of a jerk. Where she goofed was borrowing Journal 3 without asking. But I'm pretty sure that's more of a plot contrivance so both Bill and Dipper can know where the Journal is. Hell, even when Bill is trying to manipulate Dipper with Mabel's "worst, most selfish moments where she forces Dipper to give up something", he doesn't even pick ones where she was or he did! In Tourist Trapped, Mabel was tricked by the gnomes and then kidnapped, she had done nothing wrong (even if you think she should've listened to Dipper, this was their first day in GF, they had no idea the supernatural was real or a real threat yet, so I fully understand Mabel thinking he was being a bit of a conspiracy theorist, especially since she turns around moving forward). In Time Traveler's Pig, Dipper was just blatantly in the wrong. Not only did he play with time explicitly to prevent Wendy from making her own decisions, he could he have propped up an inanimate object to do Mabel's part instead, he brought Mabel back in time over and over, extending the amount of time she'd spend with Waddles, and then expected her to be okay with never seeing him again. He didn't "give up" Wendy, he didn't deserve her with these actions to begin with. And The Deep End is the closest you get out of those three to Mabel being horribly selfish and forcing Dipper to give something up. Mabel definitely starts selfish, but by the end, she's 100% doing it for Mermando, knowing she'll never see him again. She got lucky to get bottle messages. As for Dipper, neither he nor Wendy should've had that job tbh, they're goofballs that I don't trust saving anyone lol. And that's fine, it doesn't really say much about their characters. However, Dipper merely gives up EXTRA time with Wendy. Iirc, she didn't leave the Mystery Shack, she just got another job as a lifeguard. And more importantly, the fact that BILL CIPHER is making these claims is exactly why people shouldn't believe them at face value lmao. I'm so curious as to how this became the catalyst for some Mabel haters 🤔
@@ashyunderscorealt95 that's because Bill is not entirely wrong. Being self-centered Mabel's main flaw plus we do have many instances of Dipper going out of his way to solve her problems and prioritizing her happiness over his own, but saying she never does anything for him is definitely not true. One example is the body switch episode where she was willing to let him have the new room at the end
old computers didn't often have lock outs. The "lock out" occurred when Dipper fell asleep at the computer and Bill entered his dreams
