Great video! Need to do this job on my Dexta as well but so far nobody has ever made a video of it

Great feeling to have those brakes working again.

Great video. There a an outer seal on the other side of the bearing. In a dexta it involves removing a metal collar which is a bit labor intensive. I’m wondering if the primary function of the outer seal is to hold grease in the bearing. Any thoughts? Did replacing the inner seal fix the leak?

Hi and thanks! I agree with what you are saying. The inner seal keeps the oil inside the diff etc and the outer seal stops dust and water getting in to the bearing and in effect keeps the grease in. Replacing the inner seal has fixed the leak thankfully and it's good to have my brakes working properly again😅

I thought the exact thing. I have a 59 841 d ford and it is similar I can't find anything about greasing bearing etc in manual. Internet manual on my phone and man it is frustrating with greezy fingies. Gonna tear it apart and see. Great video

Hello! Thank you for the video! It was extremely helpful. Do you have a video showing the rear axle outer seal?

Hi, thanks! I haven't done a video showing the outer seal at this stage, as I haven't had any troubles with it yet. The inner seal stopped the leak thankfully as the outer is definitely a bigger job. It is on my list of things to do, but since she's a working machine other things are being prioritised to keep her working well.

This is a crazy question but if the inner seal keeps oil in the differential and the outer seal keeps dirt from getting in to the bearing, what keeps the bearing lubricated?

@@inspector2835 The bearing should be packed with grease which keeps it lubricated. The outer seals keep the grease in and prevents contamination from water/dirt etc. The inner seal also stops the diff oil from contaminating the grease. At least that is how mine is. Thanks for your question, I hope this helps!

@@V4XEN That is what I figured. The only thing that has me stumped is that when you put the collar on the shaft next to the bearing, the collar has to be heated red hot to get the collar to seat. I figured that the red hot collar will melt any grease out of the packed bearing and once in place, would not allow room to repack the bearing again.

Where did you get the seal?
