You miss a hint in the "Payback" mission, when Bowman was killed, later on Manson and Wood managed to get out of the captive and find a hidden base. The pair freed some other US marines and Manson encountered Reznov, who was taken POW here. Manson and Reznov moved out while Woods said "Mason! What the f*ck are you doing?! Victor Died in Soviet captivity Vorkuta 1964 I believe because you hear Hudson telling Mason he’d died five years earlier in Soviet captivity whilst trying to escape Vorkuta. Soviet Guards executed him and the rest of the prisoners for the uprising which the prisoners held for so long they also were executed as an example. The reason Victor Reznov was at Vorkuta is he kept Soviet and allied troops from obtaining NOVA 6 which was a top secret Nazi project their first target was Washington D.C followed by Moscow Soviet Russia . As interesting as it is I always knew that Reznov was only in Masons mind as Reznov and mason became friends in Vorkuta. Reznov was a Soviet war hero who helped Dimitri Patrenko raise the flag at the Reichstag Berlin April 12 th 1945. Patrenko and Reznov went onto capture Friedrich Steiner 1946 Antarctica but the story doesn’t stop with Krevchenko as he was in Afghanistan during the time the United States and China were helping fund the Mujahadeen Aka Taliban known today as Krevchenko was believed to have been killed 1968 Vietnam only he didn’t he went onto afghanistan. Mason was captured trying to help bowman and woods escape the bay of pigs failed coup de tat of Fidel Castro and as a result mason was captured the Soviet installed a transmitted under the skin as it was installed to give mason orders to kill the president in the game. So they brainwashed him.
There is a little plot hole in Steiner's plan. How was Mason supposed to go after JFK without escaping Vorkuta? Maybe Steiner and Reznov bargained something and after Mason escaped, Reznov was supposed to be set free. Even the files about Reznov describe him as a manipulator.
@miguelcarunchod.1493 if i remember right, there's a scene where Steiner says the programming isn't working on Mason and dragovitch says "he can rot in his cell" or something along those lines
@@Snipurss I remember it because Steiner and Dragovich planted some kind of device inside mason that they supposedly thought could control him but it had failed and then dragovich made the comment to drag him back to his cell he can rot in there. People have to remember the place where mason is was a very much real place they stuck not just criminals of the Soviet Union but also political and foreign prisoners included the USSR at the time didn’t want any political Opponents to challenge its authority. Not only was it a slave camp but pow camp the weather so bad that it was thought that prisoners would not be able to survive the harsh winter as Vorkuta was so so close to the arctic ppl didn’t dare try to escape it was also medical malpractice going on at the camp which literally made the Nazis experiments look like child’s play. Theirs a lot of plots to the game where a lot have asked themself how did they implant the device in mason? And we all know they did some kindve surgery in him whilst at Vorkuta once they implanted him with the device it was hoped that they could reprogram him into killing the president of the United States John F Kennedy. Which btw I was blown away at the voice acting a character that at one point actually did think the actor was JFK. They did the very same thing to Ronald Reagan.
Basically dragovich and Steiner brainwash Mason, Reznov sees this and uses it to his advantage brainwashing him again , leading to what we know happened Subliminal conditioning I think it’s called?
i cannot pput into words how well done black ops 1 as a whole was made. from the story, zombies, to the multiplayer experience. its a testament to a time where developers were allowed to create to their full creative potential before sales triumphed releasing a good game. when there was still honor in the product
Another detail: Only in the missions "Vorkuta" and "Project Nova" does he have the signature missing right index finger. Every other time you see him, he has all fingers intact.
Actually the Defector Mission and Escaping the helicopter and beginning of the tunnels Reznov's finger is correctly MISSING. You need good timing to see it.
Im glad someone else noticed that in the defector in the room where you meet reznov there is a dead body that looks like it doesn’t belong there and assuming thats the defector. Not to take away from Reznov but I think Roebuck is underrated in a way, like I feel the father figure sense from him in waw.
A lot of the plot elements from Black Ops 1(sleeper agents, brain washing, Vietnam, POW camps, Russian roulette) were taken from the movies The Manchurian Candidate and The Deer Hunter, both of which are incredible films. There are two different versions of The Manchurian Candidate, I have only seen the remake with Denzel Washington but it is very very good. The deer hunter is a very powerful Vietnam war story.
I remember when I was young I beat the BO1 campaign and got out of it that Reznov was Mason's imaginary friend so I made Reznov my imaginary friend to be like Mason. Though tbh I think Reznov may be alive as there is no way Mason just got up while tied up in the desert or that somehow Mason can kill two people at once Reznov is at least someone else like an different unnamed soldier he imagines as Reznov or something, or maybe he is real and Hudson is just gaslighting Mason REALLY hard.
I will always love Black ops 1, I bought it on my birthday and my friend had spoiled the game for me. I then gaslit myself into thinking that Reznov wasn't dead after it was spoiled, by forgetting the fact my friend also said he was a hallucination. Truly had the Mason experience.
I honestly think it's pretty wild that they kept Reznov around for so long..I think his last appearance was on BO2 when he "saved" Mason and Hudson in the desert right? It'd be even wilder If they brought him back (even if Mason by game lore/accuracy is passed away) they could make it so some of by some means genetically transferred the brainwashing to his son David..or David's kids.. Nonetheless, seeing Mason say "My name is Viktor Reznov! And I WILL have my revenge!", really hit the creepy feels for me. I'm not a fan of Treyarch's MP but their campaigns/ zombies are platinum. Fantastic video as always my dude! Keep it up!
"He and us are not so different... We are all soldiers, without an army. Betrayed. Forgotten. Abandoned. In Vorkuta, we are ALL brothers..." Possibly the best story & dialogue in any video game ever. nothing short of a masterpiece.
Although it’s in Mason’s mind, I’d like to think that it’s actually his spirit kinda guiding him. Ofc it’s not, I love their relationship though you can tell Mason really cared for Reznov.
I know this sounds fake but in the mission revelations when mason gets out of the room if you go the door on the back of the hall you can hear a demon growling.
For me it was the helicopter door at 4:15 never in the history of CoD they made you mash the button to open the door only for someone else to open it, except in that scene. It made me pay attention and from that point it was obvious that other characters never talked to Reznov or acknowledge his presence in any way.
There is a dialogue on Victor Charlie than is from the Vietnamese, its something about theres only two of them or something like that, this dialogue can be heared on the start of the mision, hinting than theres no Reznov, just Woods and Mason
What's interesting that everytime Reznov appears after Vorkuta in BO1 we hear numbers sequence, but when we see Reznov in BO2 they are gone. Is it because all 3 targets are dead or maybe he's actually alive?

If memory serves me right in a bops game ( I think 2 or 3) it is stated that woods found reznov alive and well and let him meet with mason. I don't remember the full details but it was mentioned.
Oh yeah one of my favorite characters once again amazing video my friend. Stalin had a little time for heroes. I’m not sure if you know this, but in black ops two when woods is telling the story about the desert mission that they did where they killed. Kravchenco I believe woods as he’s telling the story I believe says something about Mason thinking reznov was there as well
Something I just realized is Reznov’s quote “victory cannot be achieved without sacrifice” and the fact that when you reach the train he’s capable of climbing and jumping but he goes off when he doesn’t need to and that’s because he needs to give Mason the separation anxiety and belief that Reznov is still alive without him actually being present so he follows his programming. Reznov actually being with him would disrupt the imaginary, vengeful and unkillable character of himself he snuck into Mason in Vorkuta.
In the Rat Tunnels with Swift he said "The f***s wrong with you?" As he looks back at mason seeing as reznov isn't actually there he thinks mason's talking to himself.
You deserve way more than 50 k subs my guy I’ve been watching your shorts for so long and videos your detail and dedication is remarkable, keep up the great vibes and videos 🎉
Reminder, The reznov we see in the campaign post vorkuta doesn not exist BUT through computers emails we learn that Reznov is still alive acting as a mole for the cia
In that boat mission, Bowman says to Reznov "Say again" when Reznov was saying "Dragovitch, etc etc" If I'm not mistaken. Probably was Mason saying it out loud.
I did notice the teammates not interacting with Reznov. But I thought it was a weird oversight. But the twist was great, I still gets chills when Mason says "My name is *Viktor Reznov* and I will have my reeevenge"
Also when woods saved mason from kravenchko, somehow mason sees that kravenchko has a belt of greanades and when wood confronted him he pulled the pplugs and woods jumped with him and then a big explosion happens,in reality that didn't even happen, kravchenko didn't had any greanades but simply was holding a gun and then REZNOV appears afterwards
There is little cameo of Reznov in Black Ops II, In The Desert of Afghanistan, when Mujahaddin throw mason, woods and chines person then some random guys come and save them then mason call it Reznov
reznov may not be dead, i remeber seeing a vid where a guy looks through the computer on the menu just to find emails sent to hudson with hints that it could be reznov
I had some chucklehead at work overhear that I was playing through Black Ops the first time. I had to stop the game at the begining of Rebirth Island. This guy flat out RUINS the biggest twist in the series for me even though I told him I hadn't played it before. They dude was a collapse failure and I could go on for a half hour about the 8 hours I knew him, but I will not forgive him for this one fact.
The pronunciation of Hue is actually somewhat close! Good job! I think you need to just quickly connect the syllables together and the E sounds needs to be more like the E in Ned :)
It's my belief that when reznov was installed into masons psychy it's was for 2 reason. 1 to get revenge on dragovich and the others and the 2nd is for Masons own mental health. While Mason is very strong and a capable soldier he was obviously mentally scarred from his failed mission and from how he was treated in Vorkuta. With Reznov being in his head it's almost like he has someone he can fall back onto and give him power which honestly I think is very kind of Reznov, making sure that his friend doesn't go completely bonkers
Black Ops 1 will forever be one of my favorite games and I'm still surprised that I didn't notice ANY of these while playing it when I was 12... Awesomeness lol. Also apologies if any offensive comments popped up in my name...I was hacked...😢😢😢
the first time i played rebirth island i raged because reznov simply walked through the spotlight and is completely fine, and if i coopied his path i'll get shot. i thought it's some stupid bug but maybe not. so, if you suddenly see your old firend come out of nowhere to save your life, don't trust him/her too much, because he is likely to take a path that you can't take.
5:09 I don't want to sound like a smartass, but that moment, that "what the fck is wrong with you?", was the moment that I started to suspect that there was something wrong with this "Reznov". Just like I started to suspect Adler following Bell when he starts exploring the Berlin HQ in COD Cold War.
Reznovs alive. The terminal in the main menue has a lot of codes and one of them is a letter between hudson and some agent but the agent says in the letter "tell mason i said victory cannot be won without sacrifice" which is literally what reznov says in vorkuta
No they broke the brainwash in bo1. The only mission you see Reznov in is Old Wounds and you hallucinate him bc Kravchenko is there. Once Kravchenko dies, that is the last piece of memory that Reznov would’ve had with Mason.
@@kadenblankenship6060 So why Mason tried to kill him if he wasn't ordered or something like that Kravchenko was one of the guys that Reznov wanted dead, thats why he brainwashed Mason
I think the most telling is Swift's "The fuck's wrong with you?" He has literally no other reason to say that unless Mason was talking to himself. He also, convienetly, doesn't get the chance to tell Woods or Bowman that Mason was talking to himself in the tunnels, which would obviously cause them to ask him about it, he'd say he was talking to Reznov, and they'd proceed to tell him that Reznov was never anywhere he said he was.
Call of duty BO1 really has to be the best call of duty speaking of the mood, very dark but at the same time warm because of the environnements we were playing in (Cuba Vietnam etc) we had the coolest guns call of ever made (except for intervention Mw2). Conspiracies and theories everywhere in campaign in zombies, Easter eggs. This game was beyond video gaming, sharing everything multiplayer online gaming on firing range, or zombies with your friend back in secondary school ( from 10 to 13) was so cool. MW2 was the second greatest but it was more of a playground because the multiplayer was so good, even if the campaign was good as well ( ghost etc ) it didn’t have the same atmosphere. Also a game on the Cold War was an absolutely mad idea and the way it was done ( script) was crazy. Lovely time

@@Snipurss ... and then Reznov casually walks in to the lab.
Basically dragovich and Steiner brainwash Mason, Reznov sees this and uses it to his advantage brainwashing him again , leading to what we know happened
Subliminal conditioning I think it’s called?
i cannot pput into words how well done black ops 1 as a whole was made. from the story, zombies, to the multiplayer experience. its a testament to a time where developers were allowed to create to their full creative potential before sales triumphed releasing a good game. when there was still honor in the product
Good ol' Tricky Vic. Also holy shit you're already at 40k? Congrats, man!
Tricky vic
How are tou supposed to take away from Reznov he's dead?
He was rescued by the cia. Also when reznov kills an enemy that enemy is also a hallucination
@@goldenfiberwheat238 that would cause mason to be outright useless if he can imagine enemies
@@aehe-vn1wl so?
I will always love Black ops 1, I bought it on my birthday and my friend had spoiled the game for me.
I then gaslit myself into thinking that Reznov wasn't dead after it was spoiled, by forgetting the fact my friend also said he was a hallucination.
Truly had the Mason experience.
2:08 by defector they meant the one who knew what the numbers meant but Mason thought it was Reznov but in reality it was himself
Betrayed. Forgotten. Abandoned. In Vorkuta, we are ALL brothers..."
Possibly the best story & dialogue in any video game ever. nothing short of a masterpiece.
I just heard it for the first time when I was looking around for details and easter eggs. I can confirm this is true
At the end of the day, the real reznov is the friends we've made along the way
I'm surprised that his hallucinations didn't get him killed. While he's sitting there talking to himself anybody could've walked in and killed him.
For me it was the helicopter door at 4:15 never in the history of CoD they made you mash the button to open the door only for someone else to open it, except in that scene. It made me pay attention and from that point it was obvious that other characters never talked to Reznov or acknowledge his presence in any way.
There is a dialogue on Victor Charlie than is from the Vietnamese, its something about theres only two of them or something like that, this dialogue can be heared on the start of the mision, hinting than theres no Reznov, just Woods and Mason
sad thing is, Swift got killed in the tunnel because he was momentarily distracted by Mason's hallucinations.
I was completely blown away on my first playthrough thanks to the story. Im not a COD guy, but Black Ops will forever have a place in my heart.
This was one of my favorite Black Ops 1 vids. Props to you dude keep up the good work.
Appreciate that a lot! 🙏🥹
Reznov is reality Tyler Darden🗿
What's interesting that everytime Reznov appears after Vorkuta in BO1 we hear numbers sequence, but when we see Reznov in BO2 they are gone. Is it because all 3 targets are dead or maybe he's actually alive?
Mmmmmm. That’s a good question
No because kravchenko isn’t dead and the numbers do show up when you see him.
@@killianmccluff36 What? The moment his brain is all over the place the numbers disappear.
@@tootheinternet well being in close proximity to a bullet being fired probably would pull you out of your mind for a second. And the second kravchenko dies the brainwashing doesn’t just end that’s not how it works

no honestly. It has been insanely fast on this channel. the want for older games I think is just very strong. Or at least the want for games that don’t feel so money driven
@@theterriblepanda yup miss when they made games out of passion now it’s all just greed and everything’s gone too shit, i’m really hoping xdefiant will be a solid game but only time will tell
Hey bro wanted to let you know that i knew most of these facts about the character and i know most of the facts about the games that you discuss but i still watch your videos because not only are they well made but they are entertaining as well, you could potentially have a bright future in this ever evolving industry of entertainment.
I appreciate that 🥹 yea I figured a lot of people may already know these things but like you said I know also people enjoy talking about the game anyway just because they love it. I just enjoy revisiting it.
2:32 I've never noticed in my entirety but now that he is 6'6 and 180 lbs lol bro is emaciated
As a kid i saw reznov as a father back then

At first I thought it was rude Woods and Bowman didn't acknowledge Reznov at first
This game was classic, I got it right after basic training when it came out
In the Rat Tunnels with Swift he said "The f***s wrong with you?" As he looks back at mason seeing as reznov isn't actually there he thinks mason's talking to himself.
You deserve way more than 50 k subs my guy I’ve been watching your shorts for so long and videos your detail and dedication is remarkable, keep up the great vibes and videos 🎉
Appreciate you sir! 🙏❤️
Probably was Mason saying it out loud.
you cannot tell me that my name is not Victor Reznov
Lmao
I mean reznov vaulting through a sold brick wall in my play through was pretty convincing evidence that he’s not real
reznov may not be dead, i remeber seeing a vid where a guy looks through the computer on the menu just to find emails sent to hudson with hints that it could be reznov
I had nooo idea victor was a hallucination
5:10 , that was good🤣🤣🤦🏻
I wish treyarch did a better job of linking the stories together
I honestly think they got confused them selves at a certain point 😂
I had some chucklehead at work overhear that I was playing through Black Ops the first time. I had to stop the game at the begining of Rebirth Island. This guy flat out RUINS the biggest twist in the series for me even though I told him I hadn't played it before. They dude was a collapse failure and I could go on for a half hour about the 8 hours I knew him, but I will not forgive him for this one fact.
That’s messed up .. ruining the biggest plot twist is insane
Theres that cliché everyone uses that if you shoot him your bullets go right through him, but if you shoot anyone else you lose from friendly fire
Sometimes I gotta be high and steady enough to clean out snipers too
What if events went differently in COD BO1. What if Viktor reznov escaped with mason. and Reznov meets woods and bowman?
The pronunciation of Hue is actually somewhat close! Good job! I think you need to just quickly connect the syllables together and the E sounds needs to be more like the E in Ned :)
Holy moly! I had no idea about that computer...
I don't think I ever turned around in that room after I got off from that chair.
How
How what?
@@NostalgicGamerRickOShay how have you never been on that computer?
It's my belief that when reznov was installed into masons psychy it's was for 2 reason. 1 to get revenge on dragovich and the others and the 2nd is for Masons own mental health. While Mason is very strong and a capable soldier he was obviously mentally scarred from his failed mission and from how he was treated in Vorkuta. With Reznov being in his head it's almost like he has someone he can fall back onto and give him power which honestly I think is very kind of Reznov, making sure that his friend doesn't go completely bonkers
The best call of duty storylines I’ve ever played through lmao “MASON!! THE NUMBERS!! WHAT DO THEY MEAN??!??” 😂😂

Black Ops 1 will forever be one of my favorite games and I'm still surprised that I didn't notice ANY of these while playing it when I was 12... Awesomeness lol. Also apologies if any offensive comments popped up in my name...I was hacked...😢😢😢
I have a theory that mason missed him so much if he died in vorkuta and he went crazy
The biggest give away for me was when you could shoot at him and the “friendly fire won’t be tolerated” wouldn’t show up
I honestly think that if Reznov died, he was just executed for the escape attempt, cause this man can survive everything else thrown at him
Mason and Reznov reminds of a movie which I'm not supposed to talk about
“What the fucks wrong with you” honestly gave it away for me. Even as a child I saw he wasn’t right so to say
when woods and kravchenko jump off the window in 'payback',when they fake die, reznov also appears to rescue mason.
the first time i played rebirth island i raged because reznov simply walked through the spotlight and is completely fine, and if i coopied his path i'll get shot. i thought it's some stupid bug but maybe not. so, if you suddenly see your old firend come out of nowhere to save your life, don't trust him/her too much, because he is likely to take a path that you can't take.
You skipped the Reznov encounter when you rescue him right before you confront Kravchenko
The outro music is giving me hella nostalgia
Plot twist: Reznov is alive but won't come back because of the 3 people he wants dead are making sure he isn't going anywhere.
Reznovs alive. The terminal in the main menue has a lot of codes and one of them is a letter between hudson and some agent but the agent says in the letter "tell mason i said victory cannot be won without sacrifice" which is literally what reznov says in vorkuta
Buddy of mine that passed away named his dog Reznov, plan on getting a dog and naming him that as well
That’s a really cool name for a dog actually 😭
In bo 2 mason still brainwashed unrelated through
No they broke the brainwash in bo1. The only mission you see Reznov in is Old Wounds and you hallucinate him bc Kravchenko is there. Once Kravchenko dies, that is the last piece of memory that Reznov would’ve had with Mason.
@@kadenblankenship6060 So why Mason tried to kill him if he wasn't ordered or something like that
Kravchenko was one of the guys that Reznov wanted dead, thats why he brainwashed Mason
Reznov was a baba yaga before John Wick.
2:58 reznov literally teleports in front us after the flie goes down
I think the most telling is Swift's "The fuck's wrong with you?" He has literally no other reason to say that unless Mason was talking to himself.
I thought him being the same age, maybe even younger, 20 something years later was a bit odd
Lovely time
*BOOM... Victor Reznov
Hue as in Hway, FYI. Think of it as the Family Guy bit with Cool Whip.
Mmmmmm that’s kinda genius
