    Outstanding video! So clear and comprehensive. You're an excellent instructor. I just moved into a new home and discovered the air filter was missing. Yours is the only video that I found which explained how to measure the space. Thank you!

    You literally answered every question I had in depth. I recommend my homeowners to shoot for a Merv 6 or MPR300-600 as well, I've seen lots of homeowners use the Purple 3M or Kirkland (costco) brand, the worst.
    You're one of the few youtubers/tech that puts out a golden video, every, single, time. Every second is truly invested and not wasted.
    Thank you Jay.

      Why is the Kirkland the worst? And thanks

    • @agahajak
      @agahajak 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@orbelina6508 It's heavy pleated, which requires frequent filter changes, depending on where you live (busy road/lots of pollution, pet fur, etc) because they clog up a lot quicker than say, a 'MERV 6' filter.
      I come across so many No Heat calls and most of them are because of the heavy pleated filters that trip the High limit switch in the furnace.

    LOl.! I've been trying to find my filter and I can seem to locate it. I have my furnace that is up in my attic and hung horizontally. It looks completely sealed up so my guess is my ceiling has 3 of these filters and that must be the only place that they are. I live in AZ and it's extremely dusty here so that makes sense. You have been the only person I've found on TH-cam to bring this up so thank you!

    Awesome video and very informative. Little bit about my situation. I am a new homeowner and a big DIY person and have come to the conclusion that my air handler wasn’t installed correctly. So I have been seeking online but can’t really find an answer. So my filter installed is not snug and has no clamps to keep it down and am worried that in the years to come the dirt will clog the electronics inside. If I could possibly send a picture or what air handler I have could I get help. I want to keep my HVAC in good working order as long as I can. These repairs of replacements can really break the bank.

    Great video, especially along with your other one comparing the different filters. I'm very grateful for your excellent presentations. Hey, gotta question... hope you can answer: I live in a wildfire region where there is a lot of smoke when there are fires. And we have big fires every year now. I've heard to use a high MERV filter and keep the fan blowing 24/7 can help us breathe better. So... If I put in a higher MPR filter (say 1900) during the wildfire season when there is smoke to filter out of the air, it likely the furnace would only be blowing the fan, not heating the house (since the weather is usually hot). Would that make it safer in terms of load on the furnace since it would not be heating at that time? Then I would go back to a lower MPR (say 600 or even 300) for when the fires are out and the air is clear. Do you think that would be okay? Any other suggestions? Thanks for your consideration...

And I will take your suggestion and go from every 3 months to 2 months. Even though no pets or kids. I subscribed to your channel a few weeks ago because of the detail you provide and the easy manner in which you explain how our furnace and AC works. I have a Bryant furnace that uses a 4" filter. I change it every 6 months as you suggest. I use a 3M Filtrete filter and every time I change the filter, the paperboard that is outside the pleats warps and gets hung up on the metal frame. I have to tear or rip out the filter to get it out. I use a long slotted screwdriver to help push the paperboard back, but it doesn't always work well. I know you've changed many filters in your profession, so do you have any helpful tricks to get the filters out without having to tear of rip them out? Thanks.

    Great video. Thanks. I also use the Filtrete 300 MPR filters. My size is 24X24X1, but what's odd is that the netted side is on the other side (incoming) of the Air Flow indicator.

      That's uncommon.. Maybe they mislabeled the arrow :) A typo if you will. But I suppose I would just go with what the filter says and put it in the direction indicated on the filter.
