- Hello friends today popcorn is on the menu, yes I said popcorn! Back 2021 in our 4th video in the cabin we made popcorn but there were chew & chats yet. I (Ron) thought it would be fun to revisit that receipt and have a chew and chat about it since Justine put out a early 1800's make-up video this week :)

I had to chuckle as Ron slowly kept moving the popcorn closer and closer. lol! 😂❤ 🍿
Ron helping Justine just made my day, 😂. You 2 are so adorable 🫶😍
Just a quick note before tonight's episode... I'm pleased to say I received your handmade card... and I'm relieved to know my own handmade card with the sketch on the cover made it to you after all... as it would have been such a shame had it not. I always enjoy corresponding with my favourite TH-cam creators! See you in a while...
I am glad that you got it!! Thank you kindly for the card that you sent us❤
I think that the face paint is too much like Halloween makeup. I know you love Halloween, but for your wedding I would suggest to keep it more natural, because you are beautiful. ❤❤
I want popcorn now. As a family, we used to eat popcorn while watching Little House on the Praire. The characters would eat it on the show. 🎉
When I was a kid, my mom made homemade caramel popcorn and took us to the drive-in movies. I loved it! Fond memories- I miss her so much! Justine- your make-up actually didn't look too bad.😊👍
Homemade Carmel corn is delicious!
Homemade Carmel corn is the best! I never thought to make some to bring along to the drive ins! I think I will try to do that this summer for my kids, thank you for the inspiration! Your mother sounds like a very great woman and I'm so glad those memories stuck with you throughout the years to hold on to while she's no longer around. ❤🥰
@@backtonature1150 thank you! You should definitely try it! 😊
@billiejomcmillan7632 my mom, did same! 😉🫶
Skittles! You need to send them too. I used to work at the candy company (Stark Candy) that first made the candy cigarettes. I worked in the office and we could have as many cigarette “scraps” as we wanted. The bottom drawer in my desk always had a big bag of scraps. ❤️😋 Smelled like wintergreen in our office all the time. They also made taffy type of candies too. One Saturday (luckily it was a Saturday) they had a delivery of sugar and corn syrup. These ingredients were pumped into huge vats. Well the corn syrup leaked and we had a whole employee parking lot covered in corn syrup! 😂 From what I heard on that next Monday when I got to work, it was quite the mess.
Yes!
I loved candy cigerettes. I am now 67 and remenber it in greade school
Justine and Ron are the Townsends of homecooking, fashion and beauty products of the 1800s.
Popcorn has been around for quite a long time since the Ancient Aztecs and probably before them.
How incredibly lucky are we to be American! 🇺🇸 the sacrifices, blood, and pain our ancestors went through for us to live in the greatest nation on earth is immeasurable. So grateful ❤
You have an amazing selection. I have a few more suggestions. Zero bar, candy necklace, lipstick. Taffy, Milk duds, Black cow, Sugar Daddy, Sweet tarts, Tootsie Rolls…I could probably go on. 😆
I stand with Justine that the gummy colas and gummy sharks are the BEST, I don’t know how Ron has survived without them
Oh, this is going to be a fun one! I just might make some popcorn for the occasion so I can literally be chewing AND chatting with y'all! Can't wait to catch this later! I hope everybody's having a lovely last day of January! Cheers! 😃✨
Beautiful painting. Beautiful cat. Worry about him being outdoors.
The Mish “ster”!❤
If MishMish is anything like my Black Kittycat, that bowl of Popcorn ain't got a chance... especially if it's been Buttered! 🍿
My black cat also steels popcorn 😅
I love you guys! I listen to you all the time while I cook in my kitchen. It’s always so positive and happy and you’re very calming to watch and listen to. God bless you both :)
I've had gummy frogs and they are good!! I think the bottom is a type of marshmallow. The gummy sharks are like those. I think you need to send a Chickostck made by Atkinson, they also made the little rectangular crunchy peanut butter bars....yummo!!
My cat loves to see Mish Mish on screen. When Mish Mish jumped off the table, my cat had to look behind the TV to see where he went. 😂
It is hard to mess up popcorn! My favorite is salty and buttery but I love sweet popcorns also.
Love super buttered theatre popcorn! I go to the theatre just to get the popcorn to take home.
Cow tails. They are an older candy. My friend moved from California to Tennessee. She had never had them until I gave her one.
They get cold when you chew them.
Or Neccos. They taste horrible but the texture is so cool you cannot stop eating them.
As a Chicagoan married to a Japanese, I can tell you that your Japanese pen-pal is going to love the candy box👍🏽. Great vid!
Looking forward to learning this. I have to tell you I didn't realize until you taught us that rice and noodle were in the USA as early as you taught us. I love history and I love to bake. I am going to make it to St Genevieve not this summer but the next. I am looking forward to going to all the places you speak about. My father was from the sikeston MO area so I have been to MO. Many time and have been to cape Gerardo. I am sure I am not spelling any of these correctly . I always have said I was born in the wrong century. If I were young and just starting out I would do just what you are but since I am old I will just live this through you all.
23:13 the way Mish Mish is just staring up at his Bubby 😍🫶💞
Cherry mash, that would be a really good one to send and its made in Missouri.
Wonderful selection of candy but as they are my husband’s favorite and for his benefit, send a big old Snickers and a Toosie Pop, oh, btw, I lived in Japan from 8 months to age 2 1/2 years when my daddy was a Captain in the U.S. Army. We lived in Beppu which is on the smallest island. This was during the Occupation of Japan after WWII. I was born in July of 1947. My mother said I could speak better Japanese then English when we came home. I can still speak some Japanese and can count in Japanese. When I was in high school I won the lead role of Lotus Blossom, a Japanese Geisha in the play called, “Tea House of the August Moon”. And I knew how to walk like a Geisha by tying a scarf around my knees, I knew how to put the correct inflection on my speech, and almost all of my lines were in Japanese. I had a beautiful white kimono with gorgeous hand painted flowers on it, gatas and split toe white socks and some beautiful Japanese hair ornaments. It was fun. I truly enjoy the videos y’all do. Thank you…..Nancy from deep east
hi this is Sue, just started to watch and as soon as l seen popcorn, l was like yup, went to make some. I love how Ron moved that popcorn over in mulitiply places, till it was in front of him. lol. You should also grab some Rockets, and those coins that look somewhat like rockets, (not sure of the name but are true American) Milk Duds and also Sugar Daddy's, and maybe some chocolate covered pretzels.
My husband and I are the 3rd generation (that I know of) who eat popcorn every Sunday for supper. It started over a 100 yrs ago in my mother's family. An easy supper. Must be eaten with either a fruit or raw vegetable.
During the Elizabethan period, the white face paint known as ceruse was known to contain lead, which ate into the skin, causing scarring, and the women used more of the white paint to cover up the scarring and marks. Also, it was used to cover up small pox scars as well. Queen Elizabeth was thought to have been a victim of small pox.
I'll be playing Bathsheba Spooner (the first woman to be executed in the then-new USA) in a re-creation of a 1953 radio play about her. Being a longtime watcher of your videos has given me a feel for 1778, and helped me get into character. Thanks!
I'll watch all after church. Loved your antique search on Facebook! Love ya ❤❤
Thank you. See you soon after church 😊.
You can add bubble gum, Hershey chocolate bar, Tootsie rolls, 🎉 I enjoy your cooking
Ron’s eyebrows looks fine, they look natural with that clove paint. Interesting. The best is that is completely natural. I would tried that.
The popcorn looks great.
The style of make up during those days was to look pale with a little blush.
Nice vanity that you found on Ebay.
When my sister went to Japan , she brought us (hubby and I)a green tea flavored Kit Kat. We loved it.
Never taste those cigarettes candies or those gummies ones.
Thank you, Ron and Justine.
Justine, you look great! Such a great vintage look you did, like Sargent’s “Madame X”!
Ron be goin to town on that popcorn LOL Popcorn is sooo addictive! Once you start eating it, it's so hard to stop lol
Snickers, whatchamacallet (rice crispy bars, covered in chocolate)
Popcorn, make up and cannibalism! It's another fun Chew and Chat with Justine and Ron. You scored a beautiful dresser set. Love the candy choices but you need Sweet tarts! Be blessed and I cannot wait to see you nest week! xoxo
My favorite popcorn is made with organic coconut oil and salt. It is better tasting then butter 🧈 and butter is good. Thank you for sharing.
I love that Etsy store Little Bits, I bought their powders and liquid rouge. Both still retain their scent even after two years! 💕
Thanks for sharing!!
i loved Malt Balls
Baton Rouge means Stick Red or Red Stick in French. So the term rouge for face makeup is just putting "red" on your cheeks. So Ron, it is the exact same Rouge as Baton Rouge. Red in French 😊 And Justine you should wear eye makeup. Looks gorgeous on you. 😊
Years ago I remember reading about people in the early 1800s eating popcorn with milk like breakfast cereal. I tried it with a bit of brown sugar and it's great! It snaps and crackles, and really does taste like a cereal.
This episode was so cute! You guys rock! I have to go pop some corn now. 🌽
I remember the cigarettes and strawberry candies. I've had a gummy shark once. Not bad. The cola gummies remind me of the waxed soda bottle with a liquid inside. My grandparents always had peppermint stick candy. Loved those.
Nickle Nips! Those soda bottles with liquid. I still buy those.
Cherry Mash candy from the Chase candy company in Missouri. It was popular about 100 years ago and still made in Missouri.
Pop Rocks! Hubba Bubba Bubblegum! gotta get one of those elastic bracelets with hard candy beads!
Please put in strawberry twisslers licorice! Definitely American. It's been my favorite since I was little. Btw, the blue sharks are the only gummies I really like now. Lol. Yes, I definitely have had the gummy sodas.
I really enjoyed your video. Almond Joys and mounds, candy cigarettes, bubble gum cigars and brachs coconut neopolitin candy are my favorites. I do like the gummy sharks. ❤
Pretty good assortment, Justine. How about Twizzlers, Jolly Ranchers, York Peppermint Patties, and Hershey Kisses? My favorite gummies are Life Saver Five Flavor & Sours.
Yes, I love gummy candies! If you can find rootbeer barrel hard candy you should definitely send them. A little history for ya, Reese worked for Hershey first. He kept trying to get Hershey to try his ideas. Hershey refused. So Reese worked for a long time to get the pb cup perfect. Reese was just blocks away from the Hershey factory. So, the Reese’s factory is still in Hershey. Nestle & Hershey are top chocolate companies, but Hershey is 🇺🇸owned, Nestle is based in Switzerland & sells more globally which is why Japan’s version is Nestle
The strawberry bon bons, are actually made by Grupo Arcor, and are a favorite in South American countries like Argentina, where those candies are made!
Fun video. I always think of Hershey bars as being an American candy. Ron's suggestions were great.
I love all gummy candies! The sharks and colas were my favourite, in the summer we would ride our bikes to the store to get as many 5 cent candies as we could!
I can’t wait to see tonight’s episode 🙏❤️😊
I wish I were there sharing popcorn with you both! It looks so yummy! I agree with some of the other comments on the candy, you absolutely have to add Skittles to that box for your friend. See you both again next week!
Candy Suggestions: Tootsie Rolls... Pay Day... Orange Slices... Sugar Babies. (I don't eat candy often, but now it's all I can think about. Lol!)
Three musketeers, Paydyay, Zero bar, Red Hots, Snow caps, Starburst, Twizzlers. Top off with BBQ pork rinds!! LOL!
This was so fun! I always feel like I am watching friends❤️
you guys are so funny, we love you guys!
I used to just eat microwave popcorn, but for the last 15 years, we have made popcorn on the stove. I love salty, buttery popcorn. The kettle corn not so much. That does look good what ya'll are eating. Love ya'll ❤️
Try making popcorn on the stove using peanut oil. It makes it taste like the way movie popcorn used to taste. Of course you still need the butter.
Yes!!! Kettle corn! Though movie theater popcorn is pretty good too. My grand kids love me to pop corn on the top of the stove with real melted butter. ❤
Usually we have Popcorn with melted butter & salt but try adding melted browned butter instead of just plain melted butter. It puts it over the top!
This is great on popcorn 🎉My dog Lily and I love popcorn 🍿 our favorite snack !
You make me so happy. I love how you make MS laugh.
Caramel pecans turtle yum!
I absolutely love you guys. Been here since the early Stephenson House days. Started watching Jonathan and his crew over at Thompson's on an auto play from here. Love this historical cooking stuff. Have you ever heard of Mrs Crocumb from Britain? Awesome Victorian cooking demos. Would love to learn.
Rootbeer barrels , and any of the old fashioned brachs candies they used to sell by the weight in the grocery stores.
Savory popcorn for me. I've watched you for a long time, when you met on set and I'm so happy for you both and how far you have come. Cheers! God bless you and keep you.
I love the way Ron waggles his made-up eyebrows! He looks sharp, too. As for popcorn, my doctor would have fits, but I still love melted butter on my popcorn.
In my humble opinion, pop corn should be one of the major food groups!
We have popcorn everytime we watch a movie, i eat a whole bag! 😁
@@frontierpatriot We are way, way too similar!
Great post! Love the candies - had them all at some point in time. The makeup looks good - on my end anyway! Hugs to you all!
Well, you don't need to hire a glam team for your wedding! You have Ron!
How about Milky Ways, Peppermint patties, tootsie rolls, 3 Musketeers, Tootsie Pops, Good & Plenty, Pay Days, - to name just a few more of the favorites from back when.......also Boston Baked Beans candy.......
22:09 oh my goodness how excited is it to get married!! 😍😍😍 I was so excited! Congrats!
I agree with Ron that a Snickers needs to be added, but I'm also a huge fan of sweet-tarts or laffy taffy😍😋
30:19 these are super old school! Up in New England these are in all the older shops!
We use our bacon grease to pop our popcorn and it is fabulous! Or we also have a hot air popper if you want just plain popcorn.
You are both so adorable!!!
Finally!!! Ron brought the beard back 😂
Add some Hubba Bubba bubblegum and some Cracker Jack! Also, I love those gummy soda bottles. 🙂
Cinnamon gum is my favourite too! I love the Big Red. I also love the gummy sharks!
1. Hershey's 2. BUTTERFINGERS - Simpsons is american as america gets as far as cartoons, which means Butterfingers is a must have in the package. 3. them strawberry candies are a must send to someone who wants to taste american candy.
Definitely Snickers. Also Red Vines licorice, conversation hearts, pop rocks, Butterfingers, salt water taffy.
My grandmother always had those round pink candies that tasted like pepto bismal,😅. I really like Butterfingers.
Great fun! love you both!!☺️
Agree with Ron, sorry Justine. Haven’t had shark gummies or root beer/cola gummies. But have had the hard candy root beer barrels.
Snickers and tootsie pops were great suggestions! Skittles and Twizzlers would have been a suggestion.
We love getting to seeing Mish Mish!
Lovely picture of you two!😁😊😇
Good to see you both.I like Carmel popcorn and kettle corn also.
Boston Baked Beans, Dum-dum suckers, malted milk egg candies, tootsie roll suckers, fireballs, caramels, Mackinaw Island fudge, Salt Water Taffy, coffee beans, Marshmallow Rice Cakes, rock candy,, Oh My!!!
Candy To Add...
Hershey's Chocolate Bar ( one of America's original candies)
Starbursts
Now and Later
Milk Duds
Skittles
Jolly Rancher
Malted Milk balls ( Whoppers )
Pop Rocks
NERDS
Twizzlers
So happy to see Mish Mish😊..yep,as a cat owner myself, cats acting like cats 😂🐈
How interesting. Thank you guys. 😊
Justine, you need a Milky Way, and Hershey Bar. Also the root beer candy is called Root Beer Barrels! They are my favorite! I have never seen the root beer candy you showedI loved all the candy you choose!❤
Rouge is French for red. Also the white face paint often contained white led which is poisonous and was called ceruse.
I prefer white popcorn vs yellow(which I get in bulk from the Amish) I make old fashioned popcorn balls, kettle & caramel popcorn. But, my very FAVORITE popcorn I make is cinnamon candy coated popcorn. I get the red hearts candy at the Amish in bulk too. February tho is the time of year to stock up on them from the stores. I can’t stop eating it when I make it.
Oh my gosh, you two are so funny! 😄
I used to exchange candy with friends from Australia. The chocolates and candy they sent me was incredible and the Tim Tams .....oh baby....I still order timtams on Amazon every once in a while.....I sent them Twinkies reese's pieces m&ms with peanuts string cheese in a can ( which they hated lol) and tootsie pops which they couldn't get enough of!!! In comparison to American treats Australian treats are so much more delicious with real buttery smooth taste. And they loved the tootsies twinkies and anything peanut butter ( pieces, cups).
You should get a typical candy from each state. Here in Idaho it would be something from the Idaho Candy Company. They make the Idaho Spud bar, the Owyhee Cherry Cocktail and the Huckleberry Gems!
How did I miss this Video?
Glad I found it. 😊
I found it particularly funny how that bowl of popcorn magically began inching its way toward Ron. Also, I'm shocked to see a plain Hershey chicolate bar did not make it into your box of American candy. In all fairness, I do live in PA so maybe its more common here than in other parts of the US.
