    Couple of corrections:
    There were three official generations of the CL with several more minor updates in between. But the main gens were:
    C140 (1992 - 1999)
    C215 (2000-2006)

    Love hearing the stories of other owners with the same path to owning these dream cars!!! Your spec is DOPE AF, the refresh and turbos are the best overall build... Only reason I'm not swapping is the bowl of this 6.2l NA last of the dying breed... Keep up the content!!!

    Beautiful car, I love the color combination. I recently bought a 2008 CL600 with less than 40,000 miles in mint condition. I love all the torque and horsepower in a refined package. It does not steer and corner like my Porsche Panamera but it’s so much more comfortable and refined, yet will blow it away on a clear highway.

    Still one of my favorites out of everything I've owned or driven including the 15' S63 coupe which I owned before the CL63.

It's also true that low mileage can work if the car was so well cared for, with Mercedes or BMW though they should get driven, they are middle ground cars, drive 'em! ferrari owners are the most pathetic, they do like 3kmiles a decade.

    Always wanted one since new 08 design,, WAY out of my price range, knew they depreciate like Crazy and 12 years later bought the car I’m sure I designed on MB website! It’s not a sports car (I have a couple S60 R’s that fill that void for me) I would say it’s a muscle car ,, a Very Luxurious Muscle Car. ABC suspension that not only adjusts dampening but will Raise/Lower the car. Wanted a rear wheel drive performance car again and well,, MOPAR Ford nor Gm could match this car for the $$$ nowadays especially with the Comfort and feel of Quality this vehicle provides, it’s just amazing.. Oh, should I mention that you, 3 passengers and a Big trunk full of whatever will more than likely wave Bye Bye to that C7 Vette that’s been annoying you?? Very Comfortably by the way 😁⚡️

    Talking about older guys, if I may ask, what age range are you in? I just turned 50 and I was thinking of getting one of these beauties myself, just the model base (CL 550 for the US market or CL500 for my reference market), they are pretty rare in my country, specially if you are looking for one in pristine conditions with less than 80.000 km (50K miles). I've been looking at it since I got my actual car back in 2014, a small CLK 200 (not commercialized in the US with the small but quite satisfying 1.8 liters engine).

    • @AverageCarGuy
      @AverageCarGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’m in my early 40s ;)
      The CL somehow defies age to some extent. But I don’t see myself driving it in my 20s. It’s the perfect car for 40-60 I feel like. I’m now looking for a S-coupe which replaces the CL in the US market. We’ll see.

      @@AverageCarGuy S Coupe looks more aggressive with her sporty look, I like it much better than the CL. The only certainty I have is these cars definitely don't have to be purchased new since (as or probably more than any new car) depreciate about 25% in the first year, there are many used, one or two years old with less than 10K miles, available in Germany for example, they usually come from luxury car rentals companies (probably better to avoid these since they've been driven by people who didn't really care about preservation of engines) or from dealers who "bought" them to reach yearly bonuses. The latter are usually in perfect conditions, have less than 5K miles, the best configurations and where built with higher quality standard checks since MB "use" them as a showcase, I believe my CLK was one of them.
      I know for example that cars built for the German market are subject to higher standard requisitions in terms of assembly tolerance errors (we are talking about minimal differences of course) compared to cars going to other Europeans markets, I guess the same rule goes for cars getting ordered from the USA compared to other american secondary markets; it would be interesting to know what quality standards are applied to cars going to China in comparison to the ones going to the USA or Germany since the company has to rival with TESLA in a big way over there, I heard in some economical news-reports that TESLA sold in China have a better assembly general quality of the ones sold in the US.
      Incredible how Chinese switched from bicycles to S-classes in just a little bit more than 25 years, I guess they are pretty bad at driving just like most eastern europeans drivers.

    this vs an SL, I guess the cool thing is no convertible top= no convertible top noises, I am getting sick of the noise in my sl550 in winter, however, on nice spring/summer/fall days you get to drop the top and you get a hole different driving experience, convertibles win for that fact.

    • @AverageCarGuy
      @AverageCarGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      So funny enough, 2010-2014 they switched back to the 5.5L V8 cause apparently the 6.2L motor had some inherent issues that many videos dive pretty deep into on YT. I used to have a 6.2L CLS back in the day and honestly I liked the pep of that motor a bit more because with the turbos there's quite a bit of lag before you feel the wrath of AMG. But with either one, the SPG (Smiles Per Gallon) is through the roof.

    • @alemarba
      @alemarba 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I own one of those since April 2019. The main issue with the engine is a problem with the design of the headbolts. The issue is a little overblowed but is good idea to replace them with the new parts that have a sturdier head. This car is an airliner and better drive it as such. Is natural habitat is fast highways with little stop and go, but nothing that a little technical driving instead of a heavy foot cannot accomplish in higher traffic. It was my dream car and I am living the dream. Is my daily driver, but I only do around 30 miles a day.

    • @alemarba
      @alemarba ปีที่แล้ว

      @@silentbutdeadly3466 I will give 9 out of 10 to the car, 8 out 10 to the engine. Let me elaborate the value proposition. I got mine with 75k miles in it, everything working for 25k including Texas tax. I took it and spend another 12k to get the engine to brand new spec and 2k for the rear breaks. The M156 is an amazing racing engine, but have some well documented wear issues. So I got a 145k car for 37k. Absolutely solid all these years.
      Now, is what I call a 2k per year car. You need to save it and get ready because things like ceramic break rotors and the ABC suspension struts are wear items and you need to be ready for them. For me is much better that paying monthly loan for a 50k car with half the interior style. Keep in mind is not a simple car for a simple life. It is a luxory item and yoy should plan around that fact.

    • @AverageCarGuy
      @AverageCarGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Funny you mention that. But I really believe the 63 is the better car. I was originally looking for the CL65 and found a few at the same price. Some even cheaper. But not only was the car no faster, it actually felt bit more sluggish because of the extra weight around the corners. Also, the 5.5L V8 engine in the CL63 is far more reliable than the V12 (the 6.2L v8 had some inherent issues). That, coupled with the fact that there was no other difference between the two cars I chose the sportier one with the P30 that had the sharper handling. If you drive them both back to back I’m confident you’ll see what I’m talking about.

    • @aladdin2107
      @aladdin2107 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AverageCarGuy I do agree that the V12 really isn’t much faster than the M157 motor car unless we are talking past triple digit speeds and the V12 is definitely more sluggish as well because of that transmission and lag but the issues becomes the fact that the 6.0 V12 Bi Turbo just suits the character of the CL much better and plus, why would you buy a car like a CL and not buy the very best? You don’t buy a CL solely for performance, in all respect, neither the CL63 5.5 or CL65 are truly fast cars. Neither car is trapping anywhere close to 130mph in the 1/4 anyway. They are too heavy. Just my 2 cents. I may be bias as well since I used to own a 2011 CL65...
