My brother started collecting marvel legends Spider-Man figures about two years ago. In the time we have only ever seen 1 classic, blue and red Spiderman on a retail shelf. It was the cell shaded version and it felt like he won the lottery. Never saw one before or since. It feels like recently any classic Spiderman is always included in multipacks or online exclusives. Walking into a store and picking up a classic representation of a character on a whim or as a last minute gift seems to be a thing of the past.
Yep I've been collecting Legends since around 2014 and classic Spidey is ALWAYS the one everyone wants so he's pretty much always the hardest to get! That's why I always recommend people to pre-order that one if another comes out. Besides him(and classic Hulk) and certain retail exclusives, nearly everything else will go on discount/clearance if people are just patient!
@@ComicallyToys Yeah that last round of Target clearance was great for him. He managed to get a few different Spider-Man related figures on clearance. Still on a hunt for some classic renditions of classic characters though. Hulk is a big one. Def gotta get him. More just lamenting how these things aren’t readily available. I also live in an are without any toy or comic stores so there’s no dedicated place around me for this kinda stuff.
That's awesome! Which classic Hulk are you deciding between? I think the 20th is solid, but I think 80th is closer to what I imagine in my head. Though I'm sure we'll get another green Hulk in the future as well. And yeah I hear you. I'm fortunate that I live in an area with lots of Targets, Walmarts, etc so I have a lot of options but I've read of plenty of people that only have the one or two stores within a reasonable distance to them. Though depending on where you live if you have an Ollie's you can get quite a few figures at amazing prices. I'm definitely not in that area of the country and am very jealous of my friends that are!

As of January 2024 the price on ALL these Spider Man figures have PLUMMETED thanks to the release of Renew Your Vows Spider Man as well as the Amazing Fantasy Spider Man Im looking forward to the release of black costume Spider Man on the Renew Your Vows body
Never been a fan of the pizza SpiderMan body. But every other Spider-Man in this video I have. I want every Spider-Man and Spider-Man villain that comes out. That’s the best part of marvel legends is all the Spider-Man characters.
I think the pizza body was really great at the time, but the newer ones are SO much better for sure. And yeah I completely agree! It's awesome seeing so many of his villains come out. And he's got so many darn villains so they could be releasing these until the end of time and they'd still have more to make! I personally am still hoping for a spider slayer from the animated series. I think that would be awesome.
I think the RYV body works waaay better for the black costume than it does for the red and blue suit. My main mvl Spidey is the Target version of the AF 15 figure, and I honestly think that mold is the best MVL Spidey so far. The colors look real nice, I love the head, he feels great (mine has no qc issues thank god) and he poses great. As for why the RYV doesn’t work for red and blue, its bc I think he’s too big. He’s either as tall or taller than a lot of his villains, which doesn’t look right. I think why it works for the black suit is because you kinda want the black suit to be more imposing, plus the cell shading (at least on the retro VHS two pack version) looks pretty good. Also, that Spider-man 2 video-game figure looks like garbage. No sculpted anything, not even the spider symbol. They just took the RYV body and slapped some new paint on it. That blue is also really ugly. Edit: Who started the whole “Uhm actually the AF 15 suit was blue”. THATS JUST HOW THEY DO BLACK COSTUMES IN OLD COMICS. Look at the black suit, or black panther, or batman, or venom. They all have blue shading. They’re all still black costumes.
I hear what you mean about the more imposing style of the RYV figure, but I think it also ends up depending on the artist because some have made him pretty bulky in his standard costume, and others have made him very lean like the Pizza Spidey body. I like both! And yeah totally! I actually learned that Spider-Man 2099 was actually ALSO supposed to be a black suit, but since they used blue for shading that they eventually just officially made it blue.
Welcome to collecting my friend! The two you have are fantastic releases for sure! I'm betting it might take another year or two before they redo 2099 since they just put him on a retro card last year and have the movie version of him this year unfortunately, but I completely agree I'd love an updated version of him with the current mold! What other figures are you looking to pick up?
The toe articulation is definitely super sweet! I'm glad they are doing it as I think it can add a lot to a figure, but I definitely don't need the hand/finger articulation from the Toybiz days. Sorry for the late reply, but I made a whole video about swapping heads. So I hope this answers your question! th-cam.com/video/E1t7Dm0R3E0/w-d-xo.html
The only annoying thing about Marvel Legends is that they keep us a few hand accesories, all spiderman figure should have a pair of fist hand, wall crawling hand, and a web shooting hands.
Wonderful video! Quick question I have: Is the Renew Your Vows worth getting? I have the 2020 retro one and been holding off on the Renew Your Vows but what yall think? Is it worth getting?
Thank you! The RYV is personally my favorite Spider-Man of the Legends line. The things I like about the RYV is that the weblines are bigger, the colors are brighter, bigger eyes on the head, you get more hands, AND you get a civilian head. It does have the articulated toe as well, but that's not a major selling point for me. Plus if you can get the RYV 2 pack at retail(which might be possible still) then you also get the MJ/Spinneret figure that comes with a nice civilian head for MJ that you can do an easy custom civilian MJ with. The retro one from 2020 was a big deal at the time because up until then we only had the original, retro pizza, and 2 different Ultimate versions(but they were kid sized so I think less appealing for a lot of people) to choose between. So the 2020 retro was pretty hyped up because it was his first "bulky" body type release in the Legends line. So it is a solid figure for sure, but my preference is still the RYV one! Though depending on what you might have to pay for him, you might want to consider getting the Mafex Spider-Man as well.
No disrespect but is there a national website or voting pole documenting best action figures each year or up to date in there own somewhere out there? Or something close to it? Anyone know ? Love vid btw
I think i would have to go either for cell shaded spiderman or retro pizza spiderman, I just want a spiderman with the lighter blue. I would remove the cell shading thanks to your tutorial.
Thanks, man! I'd say if I can only pick ONE then it would probably be the Renew Your Vows one in big part due to it's availability. If money wasn't too much of a concern then possibly the Retro one. Otherwise since Spidey has been on so many different teams, it's easy to have each one in a different displayed team and it'd still be accurate.
@@Pocobuster Fair point, but I based the prices I found on the total price which included shipping. Thankfully though the prices have come down on a lot of Spider-Man figures since so many of them have come out now so hopefully it isn't too bad!
I only own two spideys, being spider uk and the rerelease of amazing fantasy spiderman. Needless to say the spider uk figure is very basic, but the amazing fantasy spidey is reeeeeally good
I remember when the Spider UK came out and people were pretty hyped because the body is great, but that head was so good!! But yeah the Amazing Fantasy is solid! You planning to get the new retro carded one that just came out? I've not gotten it yet.
It's not that MCU isn't allowed, but I have a whole different plan for MCU buyers guides! :) But yeah I agree the Spidey from the Civil War set is pretty great. I'm pretty sure that one is even the first MCU Spider-Man we got in Legends line! Do you have any other MCU or non-MCU Spider-Man figures?
@@ComicallyToys budget wise i never collected mcu figures. only exception is the civil war three pack (great look and accessories). mr. knight came really close but the overlay and mold could have been better.
Yeah the MCU stuff isn't quite for everyone. I do think they keep getting better and better though. And I think that thanks to them we've gotten some nice improvements on the non-MCU figures like the textured parts. I was so impressed by King Valkryie in particular that I put her in my top 10 for 2022!
Thank you so much! And yeah I hear you. The civilian heads can get to be pretty expensive. It looks like there is one on eBay right now for about $30 bucks... Which is just too much. Have you considered seeing if you can get a replica/cast head and painting it yourself? That could be the right way to go about it!
Pretty much. I did a comparison video of the Legends line Vs Selects Vs Mafex and the Legends line actually holds up pretty well overall when you're comparing price, accessories, and articulation. But yeah definitely worth waiting as Spidey will continue getting more versions released as one of the best selling characters they have in the line.
@@ComicallyToys The mafex spiderman is significantly better than anything that hasbro has made, or will make...so I think buying that means you probably don't need to worry about a new spiderman for a decade or so. I don't know how you'd get to Hasbro holding up well unless it's 100% based on the fact that it's cheaper. However, I'd argue that with Hasbro you're going to be looking at a new one every year or two (that will still be worse than mafex), so unless you either don't care about getting a better one or are able to sell your old ones, you're going to end up spending pretty close to mafex prices by the end of it. Especially if Hasbro keeps raising prices.
Just to be clear, this is all very subjective. "Better" will always be dependent on each person. As an example on the Mafex I don't really like the tiny ankles and feet. Sure it has MORE points of articulation, but those points of articulation don't mean that much to me because at least to me, they are so minor that I don't even remember that they exist. Now on Hasbro the QC isn't always great. I've had several with issues. And their lack of accessories often times really frustrates me. The fact that every single Spider person doesn't come with web hands, crawling hands, and fists is just so stupid to me. Costs are going up for sure, but they'll never reach Mafex levels. I actually don't think we'll be getting a new Spider-Man(in his main costume) again for a little while. There was quite a long period between each Spidey(main costume) release for awhile. Last year was the anniversary so they really pumped out a bunch, but with that over I think it'll be some time before they do another. Though to be fair the difference is 2-3 years vs 1-2 years(your point) so that's probably negligible.
I think the price has come down a lot because of the newer Gamerverse Spidey that came out, but 30 is still a great score! Nice! Was it local or eBay/Mercari?

The things I like about the RYV is that the weblines are bigger, the colors are brighter, bigger eyes on the head, you get more hands, AND you get a civilian head. It does have the articulated toe as well, but that's not a major selling point for me. Plus if you can get the RYV 2 pack at retail(which might be possible still) then you also get the MJ/Spinneret figure that comes with a nice civilian head for MJ that you can do an easy custom civilian MJ with.

What about shipping??
I'm not sure I understand the question?
@@ComicallyToys If there is a toy thats 20 on ebay and it has 50 more dollars of shipping, the price is really high
Love the pizza spidey but I still owned your original Mafex comic Spider-Man
What about symbiote Spider-Man and MCU spiderman
So Symbiote Spider-Man is covered in my Venom video. And I haven't done MCU yet since I have a separate special series planned for MCU figures! :)
no mcu Spider-Man allowed correct? I find the Spider-Man from the three pack civil war pretty decent.
Such a great Video! I could cry because it is just not possible for me to get the Ultimate Spiderman Peter Parker Head :-(
Thank you so much! And yeah I hear you. The civilian heads can get to be pretty expensive. It looks like there is one on eBay right now for about $30 bucks... Which is just too much. Have you considered seeing if you can get a replica/cast head and painting it yourself? That could be the right way to go about it!
None of them. Just buy the mafex one or wait, cuz hasbro will keep pumping out spidermen.
That House of M Spider-Man is not thicc enough to be accurate to the comic!
🤣🤣🤣 That makes me think of the "Big Boys" song from Saturday Night Live haha
@@ComicallyToys that comic cover you showed, says it all
@@BrennanAbadie 🤣🤣🤣 Haha!
Bro , I found spider man from the game , that costs only 30 dollars, am I lucky?
I think the price has come down a lot because of the newer Gamerverse Spidey that came out, but 30 is still a great score! Nice! Was it local or eBay/Mercari?
I found all these way cheaper now lol
I'm really glad to hear that! How much cheaper are they at this point?
So many bootlegs of pizza Spider-Man now 😢
Yeah there are! It's great if you like to customize at least.
