Everyone reading this do yourselves a favor and mail your application in versus the online process. I’m at 7weeks and counting now and the status is they haven’t even started processing it yet. The government certainly didn’t wait to take my money though as soon as I hit the submit button. Also if you try to talk to an actual human being at the passport office to get any information on your application you’d probably have better luck getting Elvis Presley on the phone.

You can’t speak to anyone to help you and I even sent an email to their “help” email ID two weeks ago and that hasn’t been replied to yet either. Instead of our government hiring thousands more IRS agents maybe they could better staff departments that actually provide a direct valuable service to us.
Nothing but trouble from my experience. 5 times I have tried. More than an hours worth of time wasted. One thing that I don’t see anyone talking about is the date format. On the passport it’ll say 11 January 2018 for example. But on this online application it says mm/dd/yyyy I cannot tell if they really want it like 11/01/2018 like the book says or if they want it like 01/11/2018. Why do I say this when it clearly says mm/dd/yyyy? Because when I do it the month day year, it haaaaaaaaannnngggggsssss until it closes itself out and you have to start over. Again and again and again. I honestly don’t know what they actually want!
I also had issue with the date the first time I typed in. There was an error message and it wouldn’t let me continue. The second time I used the calendar to fill in the date instead (mm/dd/yyyy) and it worked. Hope it will work for you too.
It’s seriously such a game changer! Mark Alan’s original passport took forever because something was wrong with his documents and it literally said processing for WEEKS. Also, the fact that they’re plastic now is awesome considering if it were to ever get wet!

For the online renewal it will deactivate your old Passport. Right now only renewals by mail are available as the online Passport system has been temporarily put on hold (due to issues).
So I submitted my online application & it went through I got the initial received email, but never got updates after that. Like my application shows as received even though it’s been over a month since I submitted it 😕

Online renewals are back now but only routine processing and there only be limited slots available starting in the mid day afternoon EST. Department of State will be monitoring renewal applications to see if there are any changes (if any) to be made for a broader launch in the future. Like the current online renewal system it will deactivate your old passport so you cannot travel while waiting for your new passport. Edit: No name and/or gender changes will be available using the online renewal system at this time. Passport cannot be damaged, mutilated or lost and only those living in the US can use the online renewal system.
Hi just to make sure how long exactly did it take for the passport to get it in your hands ? ( I know this can vary ) Also After starting the process my current passport will not work ?

I’ve submitted my passport renewal online. It said an email has been sent but after 3 days I haven’t received the confirmation email. checked junk and trash mails, nothing found. Today I login to confirm the status. Yes it went though, but that’s it! It won’t allow any detail reviewing or update once it was submitted. BTW, I didn’t see choice of “regular book” or “large book” during the application. No freebies ?😭

Have you filled out the first application from top because the second one for the card it down the the book one and they are both information unless you said same Information so they thought you did , depending on how much they charge you so you can figure out you paid for book and card together.
Only if your passport is about to expire. I tried, but did not meet ALL the requirements, which included passport expiring in a year or less. I tried it yesterday and could not go ahead with it. I have to renew by mail. My passport expired in 2022, so it does not expire in a year or less.
I did my application on November 27 2022, so far the worst experience still no signs of my passport, had a trip this Saturday march 4 and I had to cancel because no passport yet, call the number online they are not helpful at all, at this point don’t know what to do in this situation
I have applied for 6 weeks now even unpaid $60 expedited fees but yet I haven’t get my passport, you can call and made appointment with them 5 days before the trip that’s what the representative has told me over the phone but all process is frustrated

I'm two weeks out from travel and now I have to schedule an emergency appointment, but I can't do that until Monday. I've called 3 times and each person has told me they are actively upgrading the system so the status may not be accurate. It could just show up any day, but I can't risk it.

I created an acct online, I received the email to verify my account. I waited 4 hours and logged in and I dont see the manage passport like you do. I also waited the next day and logged in again and I only see the CRBA option. How long did I take you to see the manage option?

No you have to go through the Embassy or Consulate in Germany for a renewal. Online renewals are for US Citizens that live in the US. Right now the online renewal system is having issues so the US Department of State has temporarily put the service on hold.
I did mine online. I've been waiting for months to get my passport renewal back. My girlfriend applied for her first ever passport the same day. She's had her passport for over 3 weeks now and my passport renewal status still shows "In Progress" on the feds website. No way to contact other than a phone number that had me on hold for OVER 4 HOURS!!! I still haven't been able to speak to a live person about it. I leave in 4 days for our cruise. So I'm going with birth certificate, D.L. and an expired passport. I guess we'll see what happens. Glad I paid the extra $60 for expedited processing...

@Emmm Hi Emmm, I'm grateful I sent in my application in when I did, I think the process starts once they look at your application not when you send it in. About 5 days after sending it in I rec'd an email that the saw a shadow in my pic even though I followed their guidelines and the pic was ACCEPTED on their page.A couple of days later I had sometime to re-submit, so I took a few selfies and chose a new pic. I think it was a day or two later when I rec'd an ACCEPTED email. I rec'd it about 4 days later by FedEx - Signature required. I hope that helps
I got married & need to update my passport w/my husband's last name. (Need to get car permit when traveling to Mexico) Can I still apply online today? I think I need the ds-82? I just made an account today. I will upload and submit everything hopefully tomorrow (after my account is verified). I travel in exactly 7 weeks, and I live in Hawaii. Would this arrive in time if I pay the express fee but NOT the expedited fee?
I would go expedited as they increased the routine processing timelines to 8-11 weeks. Express shipping is not going to make the timeline faster. You can add the expedited fee if you have already done a routine application or you can wait until 14 days of travel to call the state department for an urgent appointment (preferably at 8AM EST) with proof of travel (24 days if a Visa is needed).
I submitted it on 1/11, on 1/23 I received a confirmation letter (via email) which said: “We are currently processing routine applications in 6-9 weeks and expedited applications in 3-5 weeks from the date you submitted your application. Access your MyTravelGov account to check your application status. Click on "Manage Application" to upgrade to expedited service and 1-2 day delivery of your completed passport, or change your mailing address. Please note we are immediately invalidating (canceling) your most recent passport and you cannot use it for international travel while you wait for your new passport” **** Was my application frozen for 12 days? Can the gov be more efficient ? Did they intended to prolong the process? Is gov doing service or business?

Hello Ashley, Thank you very much for the effort on this informative video I followed all yours septs and submitted my online application 4 days ago but yet I haven’t received any email yet or saying that’s we reviewed your application or getting second email to be accepted or not . There is one thing I can check it on my status on the website that’s showing I already submitted the application but I don’t know if there is way I can call to see what’s happening
I'm glad it was helpful! If the website is saying it was submitted, I'd say you're ok. There also is a number at the bottom of your application status page that you can call and they can tell you if it's good!

No I don’t think you can since you’ll be issued a new passport number as well as issue/expiration date. I’d definitely check on that though because it could vary by country!
Can you still use the “old” but still valid passport while waiting for the new one? I didn’t send in my old one in, so I have it sitting here while waiting for the new one
I submitted an application online and my check was cashed. My photo was rejected and needs to be resubmitted. How do I do that without filling out a whole new application and paying again? I don't see an option for that once my application is pending.
I'm really not sure! Did you get an email or anything saying it was rejected? Maybe there's a link? If not, go into your application page and call the number at the bottom! They were helpful
I got to the upload photo page and can't go any further? I click on the upload photo button and nothing happens, I can't click Next it's grayed out. Any ideas?
@@AshleyandChristian It just finally decided to work. What was really hard was getting a photo to meet their requirements. It kept rejecting my photo because of shadows! But I finally got a photo that was accepted and put in my credit card, paid my $160 and in a few weeks I should have a renewed passport. Woohoo!
Very good video but not a good experience with the govt. process so far. I applied on line 1st week of Jan. 2023 and the status of my application currently only shows as “Received” on Jan 4th 2023. So just over 7 weeks now and not even in processed status yet. I call their help number to see if I can find out what’s going and their phone system gives me no option to speak to anyone. If anyone has had any success in speaking with an actual human being in the passport office I’d really appreciate you sharing that info with me. I’m now wishing I’d have gone the mail in route and don’t even get me started on how horrible their website is when trying to access your account. Constant performance issues and after 5 attempts and multiple emails later with access codes you might actually be able to get in to your account to check the status of your application.
I spoke to them few days ago because mine has been in process for 6 weeks now in spite of I paid $60 fees for expedited but the status just showed received , the representative answer me and said 5 days before your trip call us and schedule appointments with us they might have different scenarios
I am very disappointed. I did it on line on 12/13/22 today is 2/6/23 still waiting, my Mom did it by mail a week later, she got her passport 4 weeks ago.
I submitted mine online in early January, paid for expedited service and haven't received an update yet. I did my daughter's by mail and she got hers within a few weeks. This is a total nightmare. I wonder if we can do another application by regular mail? So many people having issues. Using this online service shouldn't be recommended by anyone.
@@mariahramey I wanted to do the same... , but I was able to get in touch with them and my passport came 2 days later after I spoke to them. The number to call them is on the bottom of the page where you have to login to check your status. Good Luck!!!
If its a long time since you renewed you need a professional that youve known for 2 years to sign one of your photos. But no one will tell you that but the post office. Its a pain in the arse
Great info! I just signed up on mytravelgov but it directed me to the "old" method of renewing by mail (boo). I qualify too as I've had my old passport for 10 years. I'm planning on traveling in a few months. Looks like it hasn't officially launched just yet. This will be great for my next-next renewal!
Could she talk a little faster, my god she is fast and specially when she mentions the web site, any way now that I know renewal is possible on line will look for it at a speed I can understand.

I know when I was filling it out it wasn't accepting any name changes! That may be different now though.

On March 8, 2023, Online Passport Renewal was paused. I guess after 500,000 renewals if was a limited release of the online renewal service. Bummer!

mine took about 24 hours to become active. I'm not sure if that's still the case!
I submitted it on 1/11, on 1/23 I received a confirmation letter (via email) which said:
“We are currently processing routine applications in 6-9 weeks and expedited applications in 3-5 weeks from the date you submitted your application. Access your MyTravelGov account to check your application status. Click on "Manage Application" to upgrade to expedited service and 1-2 day delivery of your completed passport, or change your mailing address.
Please note we are immediately invalidating (canceling) your most recent passport and you cannot use it for international travel while you wait for your new passport”

Hello well if you submitted online application why you received a letter in the mail as you mentioned above !!! Myself submitted my application online 5 days ago but yet I haven’t received any email yet and the status shows only submitted and no update from 5 days ago

I did it on line on 12/13/22 today is 2/6/23 still waiting, my Mom did it by mail a week later, she got her passport 4 weeks ago.

No. You have to be a US resident. They’ll only ship to US addresses.

What if your last passport was when you were under 16. Am I eligible to renew a passport or do I have to apply for a brand new passport ?
You would need a new passport in person with a DS-11 form. Bring the old passport if you have it for proof of citizenship.

Thank you very much for the effort on this informative video I followed all yours septs and submitted my online application 4 days ago but yet I haven’t received any email yet or saying that’s we reviewed your application or getting second email to be accepted or not . There is one thing I can check it on my status on the website that’s showing I already submitted the application but I don’t know if there is way I can call to see what’s happening
I'm glad it was helpful! If the website is saying it was submitted, I'd say you're ok. There also is a number at the bottom of your application status page that you can call and they can tell you if it's good!

No I don’t think you can since you’ll be issued a new passport number as well as issue/expiration date. I’d definitely check on that though because it could vary by country!

I submitted an application online and my check was cashed. My photo was rejected and needs to be resubmitted. How do I do that without filling out a whole new application and paying again? I don't see an option for that once my application is pending.
I'm really not sure! Did you get an email or anything saying it was rejected? Maybe there's a link? If not, go into your application page and call the number at the bottom! They were helpful

@@AshleyandChristian It just finally decided to work. What was really hard was getting a photo to meet their requirements. It kept rejecting my photo because of shadows! But I finally got a photo that was accepted and put in my credit card, paid my $160 and in a few weeks I should have a renewed passport. Woohoo!

Very good video but not a good experience with the govt. process so far. I applied on line 1st week of Jan. 2023 and the status of my application currently only shows as “Received” on Jan 4th 2023. So just over 7 weeks now and not even in processed status yet. I call their help number to see if I can find out what’s going and their phone system gives me no option to speak to anyone. If anyone has had any success in speaking with an actual human being in the passport office I’d really appreciate you sharing that info with me. I’m now wishing I’d have gone the mail in route and don’t even get me started on how horrible their website is when trying to access your account. Constant performance issues and after 5 attempts and multiple emails later with access codes you might actually be able to get in to your account to check the status of your application.

I spoke to them few days ago because mine has been in process for 6 weeks now in spite of I paid $60 fees for expedited but the status just showed received , the representative answer me and said 5 days before your trip call us and schedule appointments with us they might have different scenarios

I submitted mine online in early January, paid for expedited service and haven't received an update yet. I did my daughter's by mail and she got hers within a few weeks. This is a total nightmare. I wonder if we can do another application by regular mail? So many people having issues. Using this online service shouldn't be recommended by anyone.
@@mariahramey I wanted to do the same... , but I was able to get in touch with them and my passport came 2 days later after I spoke to them. The number to call them is on the bottom of the page where you have to login to check your status. Good Luck!!!

Great info! I just signed up on mytravelgov but it directed me to the "old" method of renewing by mail (boo). I qualify too as I've had my old passport for 10 years. I'm planning on traveling in a few months. Looks like it hasn't officially launched just yet. This will be great for my next-next renewal!

Yeah you get a 10 year passport at 16, so you’d be minimum 25 when you’re within 6 months of it expiring! Anything before age 16 is a 5 year passport
