    Katie’s race, Katie’s choice. Medics let her back out. I say, so be it. Competitive athletes push their’s and the competitions’ limits. It’s the responsibility of the race and medical officials to make these calls. They made it there and then changed their minds for reasons they felt justified. It’s over. Awards given and Podium pics taken. That’s a wrap. No use in the peanut gallery chiming in now. Congrats Katie! And judging by some of the replies, she had a caring crew keeping watch over. Kudos 🍻

    Hope the actual cheating allegations are discussed/addressed. Knight walked passed obstacles, didn’t complete penalties correctly, didn’t cheated on actual obstacles she did complete and cursed out volunteers and is made to be seem like some hero here for “pushing through”. I can guarantee who didn’t do any of those things and that’s #4.

      Well said and this behavior needs to be addressed by TMHQ. To add, the volunteer also said she was flipped off by said competitor.

    Wow, seeing this footage and some from her Weekend at Bernie’s lap on the live stream, she was in rough shape! Were the right decisions made? Maybe not, but glad she was able to recover!

    She looked so much better at the finish, would be interesting to see how she looked leaving for that final lap

    It sucks that this happened, but if it was me they would have just pulled me without conversation. And not that anyone missed me, but this arbitrary application of rules is one of the leading reasons I opted out and am on a one season TM break. I hope TM gets it’s shit together in the competitive series so that if you aren’t winning the popularity and social media contest you can still make waves in sport.

    First I'm hearing of this, love Katie. Was rooting for her the whole time, was positive she would make it hard for Kris. But I mean...if the deal was...she could finish the lap then she's done. Then...that's the deal.
    Did they discuss she could rest, get warmed up first then retest?

    I have nothing but respect for these athletes, they are amazing and put their bodies through so much. And I have nothing but respect for the TMHQ staff, they work hard to put in a great event such as WTM. However, I saw Katie I’m pretty sure on her last lap (she was in a different outfit than this and they stayed she had done 80 miles already when I asked) being supported fully by Grant and another runner around Cage Crawl and she was NOT ok. I even heard them talking to medical in their ATV on course and they were really ready to pull her, and I even had a conversation with Grant and Katie for a little bit. I think it was a big mistake by medical, any other competitor they pull no questions for breaking rules or medical issues, but an elite close to podiuming they let slide by isn’t acceptable. Whether race illegal dealings happened (ie full pit crew support given on course as witnessed by some, etc) or not only she, her pit crew and the people who witnessed it truly know. Keep the integrity of the sport people (TMHQ, racers and pit crew alike) is all I’m saying, because I know a few people who threw integrity out once they heard this was going on because you’ll have people leaving the sport quick if you don’t. If medical says you’re out, you’re out plain and simple.

    No deal should have been made. Wouldn’t Medical have pulled anyone else off course that wasn’t Katie & didn’t have a Grant to get her back to the Lap Finish? Sounds clear, she earned 75, was allowed 85, at other Athlete’s expense. Harsh, I know. (But, from 1st hand experience, TM, much like Spartan, picks and chooses when to apply rules and with whom. Neither professional nor how rules should work. But, as Joe likes to say, life isn’t fair. So I guess take whatever you can get away with!) Props to all the Athletes!

    She is an incredible athlete, but similar to what others are saying is this shouldn’t have been allowed. If medical pulls you, that’s it. Maybe this is a reason OCR has issues gaining traction is the backyard rules?

    This vid proved she shouldn’t of gone back out. She looked totally out there and didn't know where she was.
    Also to note. Airport talk and witness states she also did Tea Bag wrong going on top instead of going underneath and she touched obstacles but skipped their penalties. Thoughts.

    Since everyone seems to be so interested in what they don’t know…here’s a little behind the scenes look from someone who was actually there with Katie the full 24 hours…just to be clear there was no deal made, nor did Katie break any rule of WTM at any point. It was simply stated that if she could not support herself throughout the course on her own she would not be allowed to continue…with that said…at the time of this video she had 2 hours remaining to start her last lap..medical advised all of us WHO WERE THERE that if she was able to clear medical protocols within those 2 hours there was no reason she could not complete the last lap…I can assure you we were all looking out for her physical well being and had we felt at any point she should not continue that would have been the end of it. And no…this was not some play to keep her on course because of who she is as an athlete..this was a decision made with Katie and her FAMILY who felt safe letting her continue.

    • @SkyDiverHere
      @SkyDiverHere ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Since you were actually there with her the full 24 hours… You’re saying the Medic lied on the video when he said that there was a deal made on-course (that after failing the Med Tests on-course, rather than immediately being pulled, since Katie had Grant’s assistance that could get her to the Finish of that Lap, the Medic would allow Katie to finish that Lap with him, only if she agreed to then turn in her chip and be done)? Medic was clear on there having been that deal on-course, so interesting to hear someone else who was also physically present on-course with Katie contradict it… I did see everyone else (that wasn’t on-course during that deal) working to re-negotiate things after the fact, but 1st hand accounts are appreciated. Any idea why the Medic would have lied about that, on-camera, there with Katie/Grant?

    As a certified athletic trainer, this is very concerning to see. She’s very clearly not okay and neurological function does not come back quick enough to have allowed her to go back out. Athlete safety needs to come first. No athlete is above the rules, especially when it comes to medical clearance.

    • @Skaiter555
      @Skaiter555 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      She was cleared by a paramedic to go back out. She also had a nurse and EMT (me) part of her crew. We weren’t going to send her out in an altered state or out her health at jeopardy. She waited a long time, rested, warmed up, ate, and was ok to go back out.

    • @TheOCRTrainer
      @TheOCRTrainer ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Skaiter555 I’m not arguing what she looked like (or what her neurological tests showed) when she went back out as I wasn’t there and can only see what is in this video. “If she goes out again, she will be DQ’d.” It sounds like a very clear cut ruling from event medical and as someone who has worked in collegiate and elite-level sports medicine, I personally would not recommend anyone continue on with those symptoms, even with a rest. The risk is much greater than the reward. But again I was not there and cannot speak to what she looked like when she went out. I just hope she is okay now and that TM tightens up their ruling so we don’t have to have this debate in the future. 👍🏼

    • @Skaiter555
      @Skaiter555 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Medical said she wasn’t allowed to go back on course without being cleared by them, or else she would be DQ’d. She was cleared by them, so she wasn’t DQ’d. It’s pretty simple.

      @@TheOCRTrainer re-watch the last minute of the video. Her team clearly negotiates with the medic (paraphrasing) "if we can get her warm and we come back to you and you pass her, can she go out?" And he said yes under those circumstances.
