(From the official police report) When the suspect returned to the scene to retrieve the gun, the officers on the scene pulled on the string, and dragged the gun slowly along the ground. The suspect followed along behind it, trying to pick it up. Eventually the suspect was able to grab hold of the gun, and when he looked up, he found that he'd been lured into a jail cell at the local police station. The suspect was then heard to utter the word: "D'oh!"

My mother actually escaped Rodney Alcala when she was in middle school. He offered her a ride on her walk home from school, to which she accepted, but the moment she got in the car she felt like something was off. He ended up asking my mom if he could come inside her house to take some photos. My mom agreed, and she convinced him that she had to go check if her parents were home first (which she knew they were not). She hid in her room, holding my grandfather's shotgun, absolutely scared to death. This was towards the end of his spree, so my mother theorizes that he must have gotten so cocky as to let her out of his car. Thank god for her intuition! Her childhood photos are literally the spitting image of his victims. So scary.

It's amazing how, after watching the prosecution botch catching him two times, Rodney Alcala decided to say "hold my beer" and proceed to give such a ridculous defense of himself in court, including calling himself to the stand and playing a song about wanting to kill someone to prove his innocence, that it sounds like what happens when you mess around and give wrong answers in Ace Attorney just to find out what the characters say.

Patty Rust was her name. her documentation of scene is heavily rewarded as one of the largest pieces of evidence to solidify DPR into a guilty conviction. i think the trauma he directly caused is often dulled by our own desensitization to true crime, but an FBI argent taking her own life after this case, i feel, speaks at deafening volumes.

The only thing I will say is, that Alice’s Restaurant Massacree by Arlo Guthrie is not about the main protagonist wanting to kill someone. It’s against the Vietnam War and the draft and about him telling the psychologist that he wants to kill in order to get out of the draft. It’s worth listening to at least once. It’s humorous, but probably a bit controversial in this day and age.

It takes only seconds to make person passout using it though so the victim wouldnt struggle, and they wouldnt move for minutes. Thats why people in mma, and such taps out quick as the choke sinks in or they pass out fast that also happen in competition. For example i watched Bas Ruttens video how to defend from that choke, and he also said you have only about 5 secs time after you are getting choked properly before you sleep. Just a quick correction on "Alice's Restaurant". The song's actually kind of a comedy protest song from the '60s - the narrator gets drafted into the war and tries to act 'crazy' by saying he wants to kill someone to avoid getting sent to Vietnam, but in doing so he actually becomes more enticing to the army. However, he then actually does get sent home when the army finds out he was arrested for littering once and they decide he's a degenerate.
My guess is that Alcala was trying to use the song to point out what he thought was the absurdity of his situation, completely unaware that he was the person acting absurd here, not those in the justice system.

Rodney Alcala playing the song “Alice’s Restaurant” at trial is funnier than you probably realized. Firstly, the song is around 19 minutes long and it’s HILARIOUS that he brought the flow of the trial to a stop just for that. Then there’s a point in the song where the protagonist, to dodge the draft for Vietnam, pretends to be crazy and wants to kill people in Vietnam, but that makes the army inspectors like him more and make him a better candidate for being selected. No doubt that Rodney was hoping that the judge would be attracted to his “twisted mind” or something and let him off free, OBVIOUSLY it did not work out like that but it’s so funny to think that’s what he was hoping for.
Great video Wendigoon, and great song Arlo Guthrie!

My great grandmother used to/still does tell me stories of Eric Edgar Cooke as her best friend, my great grandmother would often go out to escape her abusive home life and one time met Eric, Eric would often walk her to the movies because back in that day women weren’t allowed to do it themselves and what she found odd about it was that he never watched the movie with her, that’s because once he dropped my grandmother off at the movies he would go commit crimes, when Eric was originally found and got the death penalty my grandmother watched him be hung, my grandmother watched the last person to be hung in Western Australia who was her best friend

The Golden State Killer frustrates me to no end. He was married and has three children currently. Like he ruined peoples lives and took innocent peoples lives away and even had his own life.

The Toybox Killer makes my stomach turn so much. I once looked up the transcript of the audio tape that he played for his victims and I couldn't even read half a page of it. I then scrolled down and it just kept going. Just the most vile, disgusting things ever and it just wouldn't end.
I couldn't imagine what his victims must have felt listening to that, knowing what was about to happen to them. And then to basically wipe their memories, just leaving them just so traumatized with no reasoning why?
I hope he's burning in hell

You missed my favorite part about Joseph DeAngelo's arrest. Allegedly a great deal of investigative work was done by Patton Oswalt's late wife, Michelle McNamara, a true crime fanatic, and published in her posthumous book, "I'll Be Gone in the Dark". She was close with local police and apparently shared lots of information they had missed decades prior. He was caught after she died unfortunately, so she never got the satisfaction of seeing him convicted.

    "Alice's Restaurant Massacre" isn't a song about wanting to kill someone. . . . . It's about the draft.

@@matthiasthulman4058 literally not at all. It's about the government making people go to war against their will. In the song, the protagonist was pretending to be crazy enough to want to kill people in an attempt to avoid the draft. It's a really funny song if you put yourself in the shoes of someone in that era.

The Golden state killer was at the height of his murders when my mother was a teenager. My grandparents lived right around where he was most active in Fair Oaks near Orangevale so they were of course worried due to the bold and unexpected nature of the murders. One night, my mother entered her parents room in the middle of the night. My grandmother only saw a silhouette in the door frame and started screaming, this caused my mother to get startled so she ran towards the bed. My grandfather woke up and grabbed his revolver from behind the dresser next to the bed and was about to shoot my mom. My grandmother quickly realized that the individual entering their room was actually my mom and she was able to stop him from firing.

We do the unlocked doors thing here in Canada too, it’s rlly not the vibes when a bears chasing you and you have nowhere to run to. Ppl leave the cars unlocked because the cars insured and most ppl don’t steal shit and you can just hop in if there’s an emergency
