Fly Fishing Heaven! The Trout were Underneath Every Rock!

  • This Creek had so many trout I couldn't stop catching them!! This is one of my favorite trout fishing videos!
    In this video I went fishing at a local stream and fished for brown trout, rainbow trout, and golden (palomino) rainbow trout. I was fly fishing and ended up catching a really nice brown trout, probably close to 20 inches. The golden trout were a nice touch, and a good learning tool if you're new to fly fishing. If you can't catch the golden trout spend some time and try and figure out what they're doing. They'll often teach you valuable lessons about the other trout in the creek or river that you can't see.
    If you enjoyed this fly fishing adventure let me know! And as always, Thanks for watching!

    Thanks for sharing your day with us, I really enjoy your videos from the USA. Reassuring to see that even an expert like you can snag a tree! A really beautiful river and right by the road. Are these places open to everyone to fish? Didn't realise that you could catch trout in such turbulent water. I've never fished such places. Do you ever eat the stocked rainbows, those golden fish were gorgeous, never seen one before, they must be an easy target for predators though.

    • @hardmanfishing

    This creek has been fishing great. I’m sure you know this but the really big browns live way upstream, almost up to the next town. May 4-6 th, I caught several 17-24” browns, I measured them, and I was sight fishing for them using a beetle dry fly and a weightless old school hares ear or pheasant tail. Man, I enjoyed this video, thanks a bunch!!!!!

    Jon. Another terrific video!
    I don't mean to sound repetitive, but I'm still not getting your fly line/rig setup. It looks like the 'weight forward' part of your fly line is actually sighter line. Is that right? If so, what length? Does the sighter line go to tippet then to your nymph?
    If I finally have all this right....why do you set it up like this? I've heard of 'mono rigs' but this seems different.
    Keep up the great work! David

    The river I fish is only 3 miles long and I've fished it for 35 years since I was 9 years old and I've learned where every good lay pool is theirs spots I have to fish if I see anything or not cuz I know from the winter when the hedge dies back theirs a huge concrete ridge opposite bank that I've had several big browns come from. I would love to see this as of fish sadly they are in decline and not from over fishing just seems that numbers haven't recovered from when it was overfishing about 15 years ago alot of illegal netting happened.

    There's a lot of hatches here in WNC. Everywhere. I've seen stoneflys to horseflys and got to see my first green inch worm today. Mayflies of various colors and the cicadas are crazy good this year, and believe me, big baits (natural bugs 🐛 ) catch big fish. I would love to see if you know someone that ties the cicadas fly. I truly enjoyed and appreciated this video. Your statement that fisherpersons should be happy with what they catch is spot on. When you fished that rock and decided to let it run on a good cast and caught a fish because you did, that was the perfect example of perseverance, and skill pays off. Loved it, keep'em coming and always tight lines. Thanks, Tony Walkingstick

      I’m just starting out too. From what I’ve gathered wet flies sink for fishing below surface, dry flies float for fishing the surface. Nymphs are a type of wet fly that mimic the younger developmental stages of insects. Streamers mimic bait fish. To pick a pattern look for insects at your fishing spot and try to match your fly to them (or match streamer to bait fish). Match the hatch as they say. Good luck out there!

    So sad to see the US stocking these wonderful streams with these rainbows... In Europe, we often go back to "no stocking" but improving river conditions to enhance natural reproduction of the native browns. These stockers compete with the native fish in these rivers and they don't teach the fishermen about sensitive populations and that every fish taken home for the pan is one less for the spawning pool. I really think it teaches fishermen wrong stuff if you just stock pounds and pounds of these rainbows....Especially if they then go to a stream with no stockers and they just take as many fish home as they were "tought" on the "stock-rivers". Hope this will change one day!

      It’s a huge problem especially in Virginia. Everyone wants to kill everything. That’s why prefer fly fishing only or the catch and release sections. It’s a shame because if the abundance of beautiful streams that are just bone dry of trout by the end of spring.

    • @jacoblaurain8911
      @jacoblaurain8911 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It’s certainly an issue. Most agencies that conduct stockings realize it’s an issue, but stakeholders (the public) feel otherwise. Keep in mind this guy fishes in the SE US, where agencies aren’t as progressive in this subject. You can find native wild fisheries in the western US very easily.
