I've only found one machine so far that I cannot find any type of adjustment on the friction drive wheel. Most of them have some kind of adjustment rod or on the newer ones, a cable adjustment somewhere. Once you take the belly pan off, and move the gear selector back and forth, you will see how it works and what moves the wheel. The just look for some type of adjustment in the system. Easy on most machines. It seems the cheap cables on the newer machines like to stretch and need adjusting after a few years.
my cable ends broke (cheap) put small turnbuckle on shift lever with knot in cable now i can really fine tune my forward& reverse speeds and whith the heavy snows in the black hills there is no need for speed
Thank you Blake for the clear explanation. This has been a headache for a couple of years. I can do this adjustment on my Yard-Man. So slow in reverse. Appreciate your video.
thank you, had mine for 3 years and it never backed up . one was too slow one, never work.. now it WORKS.... yeah...... cant wait for it to snow...
reverse is still too slow for me and even forward. Maybe I need a tractor instead. I hate slow joe's.

My troybilt doeasn't have the adjustable plate , pain in the rear playing with the holes on the handle and holes on the non-adjustable plate
Thank you for an excellent video, and the answer to my problem. I didn't have to remove the cover, since all I needed to do was move the cable lever.

Great video! Adjusted my Cub Cadet because I had no R1 and my 1st gear was too fast. Now it drives as it should. Thank you
