Timex are the best watches you can buy but just because they are so affordable people think they are junk but in reality Timex are best watches you can own
I have a 25 yearl old Victorinox with that exact look, just better looking 😂 100m resistant , Sapphire without a scratch. Got it for $200 back in those days. Battery lasts about 4 to 5 years.
I have one of the solar pieces. I put it outside in the sun to charge... 3 weeks ago. I entirely forgot about it. It's gone through 3 storms, one with hail. Came outside to grill some steaks. It's still ticking, and it's still in good shape. I'm impressed
I'm a weirdo too. Something I never get from a digital watch. Can actually cadence my breaths to it for a kind of meditation and helps me fall asleep when I have a lot on my mind.
IIRC Timex was also contracted to make this spec of watch for the military. They were actually required to produce it, so it's not a total homage cash grab as per other non american brands. This is a nod to their own past too.
I got the 36 solar and honestly, it's really, really great. It did take about 20 hrs to charge, but once it charged, its my goto looks like a field watch watch. A11 similars are my faves and grabbing one for less than $500 is a no brainer for me.
I had a Timex wrist watch sixty years ago whilst at school, best watch I ever owned. After five years I lost it or had it stolen still the best even over Casio which was pretty good too.
The curiosity on that mechanical got me to me also. I ended up getting the blue dial. I seriously considered the solar as well, but decided to go mechanical. These really are decent watches for the price, with those short hands being a bit of a flaw but they still work. I think the Hamilton and Bulova Hack are probably better overall but for the price the Timex is hard to beat especially since coupons here and there can make it very well priced.
I’ve been wanting the VWI hack for a while, but since I last looked a few years ago, the price has basically doubled. Are the new cheaper timex quartz movements really that loud? I need a new beater, and I don’t wanna pay $150-$200 for a timex lol. For that much id probably just pony up a little more for the hack. But I would like something luminous without a battery to have to replace all the time. Any other budget suggestions? I’m pretty new to watches.
The movements in the mechanical's are rumored to be unbranded Sea-gull hand wounds. Expensive to service but cheap to replace, not a bad spec for this kind of watch.
I heard that they’re the same movements from Timex’s 34mm marlin. Many of which had the crowns fall out. (The Timex website review section is full of such complaints). Really a bummer for so many QC issues with these nice little mechanical pieces.
Timex has interesting offerings in the analog field watch niche, plus, indiglo makes a lot of difference. Casio has great and useful digital watches, but i personally miss more conservative style analog models with backlight.
I had a Timex Expedition with a beige dial and leather strap years ago. The indiglo stopped functioning within 3yrs. I changed the battery to see if that was the problem, but it wasn't.
Good stuff! I had the blue dial mechanical expedition north and liked it for the most part expect for the short hands set and unknown chines movement. I think I would definitely prefer the solar versions. Keep up the great work Ben!
I own this exact 36mm Solar Timex (gifted to me ❤) and I love it not only cause of how it came to me I love it for the nice specs and resistance to it .. I've been wearing it a lot lately and long story short It feels like the toughest vintage watch ever at only 36mm case diameter (and yes is almost mute in comparison to my Expedition Scout 40mm xd) Great videos men Congrats !!
I've a Citizen 200WR titanium militaryt sicne 2000, a Citizen 300WR Prof divers Titalium since 2004 and steel 200WR miltary since 2015. The 22 year oild is in for its first service at the moemnt, The 300WR flloded in 2014 repaired and has dived many tiem since. The steelie is justa backup. Both Titaiums have been deep and doen well, Very happy with them. Won;t be swapping.
I put the 36 mm solar on a black strap, and it has become one of my favorite watches. I love the 36 mm size. I wore it into the Amazon. My Nomos campus club is daily, but I love my simple timex as well.
I picked the blue mechanical one up last week for £135 and it looks so much better than the images online. It feels good, looks good the strap is good and keeps very good time (so far). If the movement packs up it should be cheap enough to replace. All in all it’s a very solid offering for what I paid but it’s not worth the retail price that they are asking - north of £200!
Its actually better if the hands don't reach the marks on the rim. Luminous hands have a long way to go before they fulfil their promise. In the dark when glow has worn off after a few hours it can sometimes be hard to distinguish between the dial markers and the end of the hand where most glow survives. This can make it hard to decide between the hour and minute hand. The solution you found here makes it easier to distinguish between faded glows in the dark.
I really like the solar version, but wish they had carried the accent-colored second-hand forward. Great video, I'll be keeping an eye out for these on sale in the coming months
I actually prefer that they didn't colour accent the seconds hand. It looks cleaner in a neutral colour, and when I change the straps it won't limit my options by only being able to pair it up to match for example a red hand or a yellow one.
My wife gave me one of these this past December and I've been wearing it as my outdoors/working watch. I put it in a window for 15 minutes when she gave it to me on Christmas day and it's taken quite the "licking" since then with no issues. The power reserve isn't the absolute best from what I understand but since I'm not living in a cave, it shouldn't be an issue. It's a very good field watch, especially for the price point.
I have 41mm solar TW2V03600JR version (brown/blue). I love it. This is my summer tool watch, I use often in pools or saunas! Btw the readability in the water is better as outside. The eco-leather is durable, but need few weeks as will be soften.
I purchased September 22, 2020 Timex Unisex T2N647 Weekender 38mm Black Nylon Slip-Thru Strap Watch. It is sturdy and has no oxidation. BUT THAT TICKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! UGH I love the canvas band and its water resistance - I am an RN and my watched does, as the old ad campaign says, "Takes a lickin' and keeps on ticking". TICKING though.......
Ben! Thanks for providing honest, impartial, and comprehensive watch information for the community. If you were a thrash metal band, you'd be Megadeth. Thanks!
Reminds me of my gone (but not forgotten) Seiko 5 SNGZ07J1. I love this particular field watch look, and I'm glad it's available in different variants from Timex. BTW I'm one of those weirdos who doesn't mind the ticking of a watch, I find it quite soothing.
I just checked the 36mm watch out at the Japanese watch shop bic camera. It has impressed me immensely. The only problem is that they didn't produce it in a variety of colour faces. I really would love a blue 36mm, solar, screw down crown with a blue face.
Not bad timex not bad. The mechanical is one I'd opt for if I didn't have the Hamilton already - no sense in having two very similar watches. But props to them for stepping up the quality here. For it's price I grabbed the mechanical pre-owned so it's solid if not spectacular. The only questionable thing is that movement. Surely there are better alternatives than that. Great work mate
Actually Casio made not mother of pearl variants of the A1000: the silver A1000MA-7EF (and a golden A1000MGA-5EF). A step in the good direction - still no real vintage version with stylish blue-red-black decals. And maybe some actual water resistance. So way to go.
Pretty sure that's one of the Seagull handwinders made for women's watches. Can't remember the cal. number. Edit: It's a Seagull TY6DSK, but with a non-skeletonized mainspring barrel, and some engravings around the movement (pretty sure that's a factory option). These are around £10, give or take, I think. These are okay usually, you can expect them to keep going for a couple years.
I received that exact weekender you started off with a month ago, It's in my regular rotation. I might be one of the few who enjoy hearing the watch ticking away. Now that Expedition North Mechanical has my eye.
I’ve been wearing my expedition watch for years and I’m wearing it now hahah, it’s been in the ocean. In the woods. Banged around at work. Thrown around by a baby, beat up and loved. If I replaced the straps youd be surprised how new it’d look even without cleaning 🤣 good watches 💯
My yellow CasiOak is already on its way with newly added BT and Tough Solar features. Proper toughness I get from my Titanium watches with sapphire crystal that I got from RZE and Boldr. Timex... didn't like them at first, but they're starting to blip on my radar more and more. Guess the 'James Brand' limited edition started to peak my interest, then the Galli ones and now the new Quartz GMT...
Thanks for the review, Ben. Both of these watches look pretty cool for the money. My only issue is with the solar, which would be my choice. In your video, it seems like the second hand is misaligned....sure Timex didn't just slap their name on a Seiko! LOL.
Hi! Real quickly wanted to ask since you didn't touch this in the review... how's the lume on these watches? I'm considering buying one of these and nighttime legibility is pretty important to me
I have one of the first weekenders and it has steel case. Great watch! New straps give it a completely different look. I have to leave it in the other room when I go to sleep though.
36mm version of this new solar Timex ( vs their 41mm version) ....has no date window. Don't know why it's so tough to find a solar field watch, 36-40mm, hacking, with date, 100m WR, screw down crown AND rotating bezel. With all the ridiculous and often "latest style trends" types of watches available from everyone.....this combo for some reason can't be found. So far, my slightly modded Citizen Chandler, BM-8180-O3e fits best......but with compromises...
I own a genuine Timex digital watch, but it has a Casio strap. I had 2 Casio digital watches 2005-7 and both died after less than a year and wouldn't even work properly with replacement batteries. So I bought a Timex with the twist a flex strap. Strap was pretty bad and fell apart after 2 years so I replaced with one of the Casio straps. I've had the Timex since 2008. It's on its 5th battery but still works great. I'm proud to own a genuine Timex ☺
Mmm...I'm wondering how solar watches are reliable here in UK. I mean..any reviews about "charge" reliability? Would I be "stuck" on remember to charge the watch? Thanks
Nice watches you should check out the Citizen BM8180-03E £75 from Argos great little eco drive field watch comes on a dodgy strap but looks great when you put it on a nato.
I had a timex expedition before but i corroded the heck out of the brass case and crown. It was a great watch though. Indiglo is something I still miss.
Apart from the insertion of the word "Post", I'm struggling to see how the solar differs from the 36mm Expedition North Field Solar that I bought last year.
I was hoping to get in the Expedition that they post everywhere, looks like something out of a Rambo movie! Wish they'd drop a solid discount on them, you know I love a good deal
Ben, incredible opening sequence, well done, I loved it. Been a long time owner of Timex Expeditions. Now a proud, daily, wearer of the Citizen Pro-Tough. But, I still wear a Casio or my Expedition occasionally. Thank you again for for great productions
The second hand doesn’t line up to the seconds markings on my current Timex Expedition, which drives me more crazy than it should. It looks like it does the same thing here. Am I wrong? Does the second hand line up reasonably to its markings?
Hey Ben, great channel, love your work. Check the casio mtd 1053 d. Its a diver with the same specs as the duro but at 41 mil. Here in greece it goes for 50 euros while the duro is at 80. I have it on a perlon strap an its lovely as a summer - sea watch. At 41 mil it will match your wrist better than the duro. Cheers!
Timex has never been on my short list, citizen eco drive and seiko 5 autowind have been my modestly priced choices I might buy a timex for a grandchild just turning ten years old, with the hope they would learn to read the time before they broke it.
I had the timex weekender watch in black colour i used it for 3 years then lost it :( Now i have another timex watch looks like a weekender but has leather strap.
The loudness isn’t necessarily down to the movement - I have a couple of watches with Miyota 9015 movements in and only one of them is really bad for rotor noise. That’s because it has a thin case (only 30m WR) and an acrylic crystal; the other one is a much sturdier case (100m WR) with a sapphire crystal, and the rotor is barely audible.

I was hoping to get in the Expedition that they post everywhere, looks like something out of a Rambo movie! Wish they'd drop a solid discount on them, you know I love a good deal
The beige with Indiglo?
Ben, incredible opening sequence, well done, I loved it. Been a long time owner of Timex Expeditions. Now a proud, daily, wearer of the Citizen Pro-Tough. But, I still wear a Casio or my Expedition occasionally. Thank you again for for great productions
The second hand doesn’t line up to the seconds markings on my current Timex Expedition, which drives me more crazy than it should. It looks like it does the same thing here. Am I wrong? Does the second hand line up reasonably to its markings?
Loved this video!
So ben, I'm curious. What's the movement of the 41mm solar one?
Not bad looking clean watches although I opted for the timex field chronograph. Cheaper and more substantial. Great video btw 👍😎🇬🇧
Great video ha ha ha that opening doe with that Red dot. I love Timex Don't get wacked Ben love your videos. ⌚✌
I find Timex to be the best looking ones in the field watch class, but the hands could be better
I love the Loud tick of a Timex one of my favorite brands.
I'm waiting for a Solid Gold triple calendar Moonphas from Timex
I spent 85 bucks for my solar titanium Citizen watch almost 10 years ago, and it’s still reliable and accurate.
Cheers!
That minolta mc macro is amazing!
I remember saving my paperboy money and buying my first Timex watch from the shop I delivered to back in 1979.
Ben, im looking for a light weight Titanium watch that has lumibrite, any ideas please?
Are carpenter field watches any good?
I love timex but Still not sure abput the sound , should ı buy it? Any advice ? Amy advice for same cheapness field watches ?
0:43 did you have to choose thst ringtone
Timex has never been on my short list, citizen eco drive and seiko 5 autowind have been my modestly priced choices
I might buy a timex for a grandchild just turning ten years old, with the hope they would learn to read the time before they broke it.
I had the timex weekender watch in black colour i used it for 3 years then lost it :(
Now i have another timex watch looks like a weekender but has leather strap.
Who does Timex source quartz movements from? I can't find any info on this. My Timex Expedition is ridiculously loud.
if it's loud then you already where it's made lol
The Timex quartz movements for most of their watches are made in-house by a Timex owned factory in Cebu, Philippines.
