    I’ve had the Citizen for about five years maybe. I wear it everyday to the office and working in the yard. I’m not easy on it and find it very accurate and durable. I swapped the band for a simple unfinished chocolate brown leather. I find it warms is up and takes away the “field” look. Thumbs up for sure. Great watch for the money.

    $150 is a tough price these days. When I became an enthusiast 10 years ago $100-150 was pretty reasonable, but today I think the upper limit for budget watches needs to move up to $200 or $250.
    I once saw someone wearing a Vostok on a full NATO strap and I told him it would be very rare to see someone wearing that combination out in the wild. I very rarely see someone wearing even an automatic Seiko.

    I was actually turned away from watches a bit from an earlier Teddy video. The one with Kevin where you picked out watches under $12,000
    Kevin said that most people didn’t think you could get one good watch for 12k. And when looking at watches in the thousands, marveling at how cheap it was.

    I know it's kind of an unpopular opinion, but for 150 (and slightly above), I always recommend Seiko's SSB line of entry-level Quartz chronographs. Playful designs, cleverly implemented complications and decent bracelets. Also, they're built to last and basically indestructable. I know, you can get a very similar level of quality for less money from Casio's Edifice line, but I just think Seiko is a tiny bit more upper class overall!

    Huge fan of this channel and love the content. I actually loved your video on the Vostok that you did, I had no idea that this company existed in Russia. My dad's side of the family are all Tatars, living in Kazan, Bugulma and of course Chistopol. Turns out some of the older generation in our family actually worked at the Vostok factory. Thanks to these videos I'll definitely be going for a visit to this watchmaker. Let me know if you want some souvenirs haha

      If you want the Vostok watch to run properly though, go to a jeweler that knows about watches and have them tinker with the movement so that it is way more accurate. Vostok will sometimes lose up to 3 minutes per day.

    I have been wearing that exact Citizen Chandler almost everyday for close to 10 years now. I liked the smaller size of it. I bought it when i went in the army and its stuck with me since. It can take quite the beating. Case and crystal full of dents and scratches since i work with my hands a lot. Never had an issue. Swimming, low temps, high temps never lost a beat. I have had it on leather straps and multiple natos, currently on a black one. I have a few vintage manual and autos in my collection but this is an everyday champ.

    Another great video Teddy! Can you please explain the purpose of an inexpensive automatic watch? All automatics will need servicing, but the cost is usually going to be at or above the price of the watch in this range. Are they for introducing the concept of an automatic watch or are they built more robustly than I think they are and rarely need servicing?

    • @elgatto3133
      @elgatto3133 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Learn to tinker with them yourself. Really, anything below an elaboré grade eta 2824-2 a complete movement overhaul will be cheaper than servicing. But some people like having something mechanical on their wrist and don't have a lot of money.
      That aside, there are hundreds of thousands of vintage mechanical watches out there with the same dilemma.
      Practically, automatics are altogether inferior to quartz. But then, clock collecting isn't a practical hobby is it.
      Cheap autos also tend to have long service intervals, Vostok boasts 10 years, Seikos from 6-8.

    I have to say, i feel like Teddy has overlooked (yet again) a great watch for between 150 and 200 dollars with swiss movement and that is Skagen. Ive had a Skagen for 10 years and have NOT been easy on it. I gotta say.... Its been a fabulous watch! Its a tough, great looking chronograph. It keeps incredible time for being in the 150 to 200 dollar range. I can set it and forget it for WEEKS and its off by maybe only a few seconds. I HIGHLY recommend Skagen for an affordable everyday, great looking watch thats gonna stand up to whatever you throw at it. (Within reason and in my experience, sometimes out of reason.) I would really like for more people include Skagen in their great affordable watch vids.

    I have a modded a snk800 to have the dive face of a skx009, a domed sapphire face, with some other hands and a woven strap. Sure it looses about a minute a day. I love it. The dive face is super readable, the strap is comfortable, because of no fancy bezel it is low profile and doesn’t catch on my clothes or jam into the back of my hand. It has enough water resistance for me to just ware it. The sapphire crystal looks perfect and won’t scratch. And yet it is a simple snk800 at hart. I kinda want to collect a few more watches but I know I am a one watch guy. My first watch I got at 12 lasted 21 years of everyday use.
