    I’ve had the Citizen for about five years maybe. I wear it everyday to the office and working in the yard. I’m not easy on it and find it very accurate and durable. I swapped the band for a simple unfinished chocolate brown leather. I find it warms is up and takes away the “field” look. Thumbs up for sure. Great watch for the money.

      For me it was cause of some scammers on Instagram lmao well tbh, idk if they are scammers or not. But I kept seeing their ads "Wristmafia" pop up & kept seeing comments say they never got their orders lol but the watches they showed looked so nice that I started to look around in actual stores and websites...and now a year later I'm collecting them😂

      The Casio Duro is my cheapest and the most worn watch I own. Great for an everyday beater watch with very good WR, decent time accuracy, and with the 22mm lug width, it accepts a huge variety of straps. This beater can even be found for as little as $39 during the holiday sales.

      I see you're a Casio fan. Im on my sixth DW-6900. I've never broke one. And I've never spent more than 120 on one. They're a little big, but by no means gaudy. And the only reason I ever consider them "dead" is because I've burnt the glass too much from welding. You can get a fun one, or a base model for as little as 60. It is decidedly my permanent work watch.

    $150 is a tough price these days. When I became an enthusiast 10 years ago $100-150 was pretty reasonable, but today I think the upper limit for budget watches needs to move up to $200 or $250.
    I once saw someone wearing a Vostok on a full NATO strap and I told him it would be very rare to see someone wearing that combination out in the wild. I very rarely see someone wearing even an automatic Seiko.

But when you brought up the g shock DW9052 lol out of the sea of g-shocks you paid homage to im pretty sure the very first watch that i ever bought for myself i think i bought it at the NAVY Exchange in North Island California my first duty station. I just took it out of my watch box. The original strap has long since seen its demise i have it on a tan nato strap with leather accents. I know it's kind of an unpopular opinion, but for 150 (and slightly above), I always recommend Seiko's SSB line of entry-level Quartz chronographs. Playful designs, cleverly implemented complications and decent bracelets. Also, they're built to last and basically indestructable. I know, you can get a very similar level of quality for less money from Casio's Edifice line, but I just think Seiko is a tiny bit more upper class overall!

      Perhaps, but the Komandirskie pre-dates it. The newer ones are better spec-ed. My K-65 (Komandirskie 650539) GMT, for example. Even the 24-hr bezel is in stainless. I also have an Amphibia Scuba Dude. Provided they're worn daily they keep -20 to +60 sec.

    Another great video Teddy! Can you please explain the purpose of an inexpensive automatic watch? All automatics will need servicing, but the cost is usually going to be at or above the price of the watch in this range. Are they for introducing the concept of an automatic watch or are they built more robustly than I think they are and rarely need servicing?

    • @elgatto3133
      @elgatto3133 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Learn to tinker with them yourself. Really, anything below an elaboré grade eta 2824-2 a complete movement overhaul will be cheaper than servicing. But some people like having something mechanical on their wrist and don't have a lot of money.
      That aside, there are hundreds of thousands of vintage mechanical watches out there with the same dilemma.
      Practically, automatics are altogether inferior to quartz. But then, clock collecting isn't a practical hobby is it.
      Cheap autos also tend to have long service intervals, Vostok boasts 10 years, Seikos from 6-8.

    I have a modded a snk800 to have the dive face of a skx009, a domed sapphire face, with some other hands and a woven strap. Sure it looses about a minute a day. I love it. The dive face is super readable, the strap is comfortable, because of no fancy bezel it is low profile and doesn’t catch on my clothes or jam into the back of my hand. It has enough water resistance for me to just ware it. The sapphire crystal looks perfect and won’t scratch. And yet it is a simple snk800 at hart. I kinda want to collect a few more watches but I know I am a one watch guy. My first watch I got at 12 lasted 21 years of everyday use.

It can take quite the beating. Case and crystal full of dents and scratches since i work with my hands a lot. Never had an issue. Swimming, low temps, high temps never lost a beat.
