  • Using a Landpride DH1560 disc harrow to loosen up the ground on my hunting property. I use the disc because this property is a planted pine forest and any openings have logging debris, stumps, and roots.

    To make this work better. Let the top link loose. The top link lifts the harrow up, when the tractor goes in a hole..let the harrow drag on the floor

    Hey Rob, I disced some tough pasture up here in N FLA as a boundary for planting some pine. It took a lot of passes as well. This was with a Kubota L3901 and a Dirt Dog disc, which is very similar to your Landpride disc. Sometimes it just takes awhile. I’d like to put on some railroad iron as well, but I have no idea where to get some. Good vid, thx!

    you need to open up that disc you need more offset and a little weight to increase downforce. I bolted on railroad tracks to my disc for more down pressure

    Buy offset harrows they cut first time those harrows are for back yard gardens that have already broke up.

    I think ripping it first with a single or 2 bottom plow then chopping it up with this would be great. I have a 2 bottom plow and it tears it up deep but then i cant ever get it chopped up very smooth.

      @kasken719 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Had better luck with a subsoiler first to rip any roots and rocks. Those things tear up a plow but I agree. On trails, Rip it, Plow it, Disc it, and if you're insane like me, Till it, then boxblade/land plainer.
      Our trails are wide and smooth. Beautiful green grass makes it very relaxing to cruise on.

    Well, how about that, another Floridian running a tractor over a tree farm. You're about the only one I've seen with land similar to mine. Thanks for the video. I, too, have a (recently purchased) planted pine tree farm in NE Florida. As I'm sure you are aware, the land undulates (highs and lows) where the trees were planted. Mine looks like what you show at 24:49 with underbrush like you show at 25:59. I have been racking my brain with how to level it out. I have tried a rotary cutter, rotary tiller, box blade with root rake, teeth on a grapple. Nothing levels it out. I know you said you use the harrow to cut through the roughage and stumps, but does it actually level out the highs and lows and make it flat? Thanks.

    Best way to cut forest trails with small tractors. I speak from experience.

    Hello, you are wasting time and fuel and a far fair comparison. Add 1000 to 2000 lbs on top of your disc and try again I think you will be happy. You are bouncing over everything because your disc weighs nothing. Add the weight and try again. Listen to your tractor and it will tell you if you have too much weight on it. The axle shaft on the disc should be crushing the dirt clods. Two passes will tell you how well you are doing and your total time will be reduced by 60-75%. You can always take the weight off.

    Instead of sacks of concrete get some 2 - 2 1/2 foot pieces of railroad track. Weighs more than the concrete and are much smaller.

    Do you ever disc to enhance native forbs? I'm looking at getting a L3901 and disc. Looking to use it to maintain a stand of switchgrass and disc another part in winter to enhance native forbs. They say you need to disc or burn switchgrass to keep weeds from overtaking it or it getting too thick. My dealer quoted me for DH1060 but for $500 more I could go up a hundred pounds. Not sure if I should spend the extra $500 or just throw some sand bags on this thing for nothing. Thanks.

    Question.
    I'm going to look at this same size disc today. However it will not cover the width of my tires.I have a kubota MX5200. which would require 72" implements to cover my tire tracks.
    1. Is your disc wider than your tire width?
    2. If not, was there any issue with it not being wider?
    Thank you.

    • @robwagner8337
      @robwagner8337  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, my disc is wider then the tractor.
      The issue if it is not wider then the tractor is you will always have strips of compacted soil. That defeats the purpose of turning and loosening the soil.
      Another thing, with the MX you have the power and weight to pull a much heavier disc. That will get the job done much better then my setup.

    Thanks for the video. We have a similar situation - we recently had some acres and trails cleared with a forestry mulcher snd it left behind some serious sticks and small log chunks. Next step, I need to get the areas cleaned and groomed - do you think this disc harrow will help or does the area need to be cleaned more prior? Will the sticks etc just get tangled? We have a 60hp kubota - thank you sir

    • @kasken719
      @kasken719 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really recommended if there is thick grass or debris like rocks, stumps, and sticks. If its a lot of sticks then they will prevent the discs from digging into the ground. I've broken a few discs on roots and stumps before clearing the trail properly. With that said, just go slow and see how it does. It will take longer because with discs you need speed but it can still be done. Hope this helps.

    Do these smaller discs leave a un-tilled row in the middle of the implement?

    • @robwagner8337
      @robwagner8337  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      When new, they do not. Mine does because the front inner discs became bent from hitting stumps. Once bent, the discs would bind on each other. So I moved the gangs out away from each other.
      The proper repair would be to replace the bent discs.

      People like myself that's never used a disc harrow appreciate the real time. Never using one I don't know if it will take an hour or 20 hours or even work at all. Much more informative than a speed up video. You can always scroll ahead.

    Good video. I'm also in N. FL. I have property and lease up there. I'm downsizing from older 42hp Case IH thinking about exact set up you have . Does the tractor pull the 5 ft disc okay? The dealer told me I should go with a 4ft disc instead and that the 5ft was a little much., just wondering real life experience

    • @robwagner8337
      @robwagner8337  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The L2501 pulls the 60 inch disc with 18 inch pans just fine in NE FL soil.
      I'm surprised a dealer recommend a 48". That would be narrower then the rear tires.
      If a disc is not at least as wide as the tires tracks, then you will always have strips of compacted soil.

      @@robwagner8337 thanks . I was suprised that he said that too. I have heard about maybe lacking on pto power if you try to go too big on power equipment. You dont want to put a 6 or 7ft roto tiller for example but assumed it would be okay with a 5 disc. Thanks thats helpful

    What size was your disc? I have a kubota L3301 and I don't know what size disc to use. I already have a 4' disc from another much smaller tractor. Someone was trying to sell me a 6' disc and said that it would work just fine. But again he's the seller. I'm looking for good sound advice. Thank you'll in advance.

    • @justincredible7886
      @justincredible7886 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would say weight would be the biggest factor. I too have a L3301, and i have a heavy 5' indusco disc. My tractor pulls it well. Front weights are a must. Just the way my tractor behaves when it lifts the disc makes me think I'm at the max weight capacity for the 3 point lift. But like I said, it's really dependant on the weight of the disc. Depending on how the 6' disc is constructed, it could be very similar in weight to my 5' indusco. I'd tell the guy to let me give it a test run with my tractor to see how it does. Hope this helps and good luck

      Yes it helps a lot. I'm going to pass on it. It's like 80 inches wide from disc to disc. He only wants like $350 for it, but I don't want to mess up my tractor trying to save a few bucks. I a 4½-5" that I can use if needed. Once I disc my oat fields which is about 2 ac I have no use for it until the next year. You'lls advice are truly appreciated.
