      daveknowshow . I’ve owned mine for 3 years and love it. I pull a 6’ brushog yes I said 6’. Pulls it perfect I’ve cut stuff that’s easily 10-15’ tall with no problem i mow in third gear. Some customers just want it knocked down so i have mowed 1st gear high side.... two best investment was a quick hitch. And a ratchet rake for heavy underbrush

      No emissions, so no DPF or regen nonsense! Also you can get way more than 25HP out of this motor. It is dialed way back at the factory to stay just within the tier 3 emissions category.

It does a great job with a RCR1260 rotary cutter and a heavy 6' disc while working 3.5 acres of food plots and 2+ miles of green access trails. Hey Rob - great video. I bought mine 5 years ago and absolutely love it. Honestly haven’t found anything it can’t to yet.
    For anyone considering a tractor, the decision comes down to what your requirements are, and how much are you are willing to spend. For me, the L2501 fulfills about 85% of what I thought my requirements were, but as I said before, I really haven’t had a need yet that it couldn’t deliver on. It’s been a while since I looked, but I think the next orange tractor up is 33 hp, and it was about $10k more for a similarly configured system. I could use the extra hp, and the additional heft would be nice, dollar for dollar, I think the 2501 is the best deal going.

    • @garrytalley8009
      @garrytalley8009 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Even at that 33 HP version upgrade it will not have anymore hydraulic lift capacity. That has got nothing to do with HP it has more to do with the hydraulic pump. Not having all that required emission equipment is a real plus. And the fuel savings of the 2501 is good as well. You need to go into a much higher end tractor to get more lift capacity and then you get all the wonderful maintenance and occasional disturbance of the emission system they put on the larger engines.

    Good video. Where you would notice need for more hp is something like a tiller. If that's something you need then you will need a bigger tractor because this tractor will struggle. Its said smaller tractors will do same as bigger ones, just take you longer. This one has its place for most people I think

    • @garrytalley8009
      @garrytalley8009 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't kid yourself this tractor can handle a tiller. The tiller it can handle won't be as wide as one with more HP so it will take a little longer. But you are out of your mind if you think this thing won't do a tiller. It will work with a 60" Land Pride tiller. So you go in low and it isn't as wide a cut in the dirt. It will do the job but take a little longer than something much bigger.

      @garrytalley8009 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can do what he did with an HST in low range no problem. There are advantages to both. You get a smidge more HP at the PTO with manual transmission. Going forward and reverse for quicker maneuvers is a plus for the hydrostatic. Not to mention you don't need to deal with clutch issues and constant shifting of gears. I went HST it makes life easy. Of course if one loves shifting gears and feel they are getting more for doing it that is a personal choice. It does not mean that the tractor is going to do any better in the field doing what work needs to be done.

    Great video! I'm surprised you have enough power with the L2501 to do that - I have an L3901 and I bought that size specifically just for the more horsepower. You can see the videos on my channel with it...

    • @garrytalley8009
      @garrytalley8009 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your gain is in the PTO HP not much else. Lifting capacity is the same. You use more fuel for all the applications that the L2501 will do nearly as well. You may be able to do some things a little faster in a higher gear range. It could be the difference in running something off your PTO better than it would run on a L2501 because of the HP increase, but it's minimal to say the least. You have the nusense of the emission system they put on the higher HP.

    • @garrytalley8009
      @garrytalley8009 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can cut small stuff going backwards under tree branches. But for cutting those larger diameter small trees you would never push them over with a brush hog. They have to be pushed down with a bucket or other attachment so they can be driven over. No other way to do it. I have the same rig been there done that.

    You have nice equipment the Kubota are without a doubt some of the finest tractors made but with that said you are truly at the very low end of HP needed to run this implement and I do mean the VERY BOTTOM!!!! I just got done brush chopping 10 acres of CRP land and it would have taken a full week at the speed you going! another 20 hp would do wonders for your effort!

    • @robwagner8337
      @robwagner8337  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I understand that. If this type of mowing was my primary task, I would have opted for more PTO power. However this is rare.
      The L2501 is at a reasonable price point, does not have any of the emissions equipment that a larger machine has, and is the perfect weight and size for most tasks around the hunting property.
      When mowing grass on the roads and in camp, I can operate at a normal pace.
      When doing loader, boxblade and pulling a disc for food plots, that tractor performs well. Plus, as mentioned it is the proper weight for operating in the muddy conditions often encountered in Florida pine forests.
      For example one of my members has an L39 TLB. We tried using that to mow this field for the additional HP.
      Problem was he kept sinking in the soft spots which would bottom out the mower and make ruts.

      When you engage your PTO do it at idle. Take your speed up to the 540 RPM speed before taking off. Take it slow going over heavy stuff. If it gets overloaded and stalls disengage the PTO, restart the tractor, lift brush hog up, move the tractor off of the heavy stuff that stalled it and repeat the same procedure of taking it down to idle before engaging again and lowering to cutting position.
