There seems to be a higher then normal number of butterflies at my hunting property this year. I shot a short video just outside my camper. Scenes like this are typical all over the property right now.

    You need a disc plow or bush n bog harrow. Then you can use that disc harrow to cut it up and feather it out.

    🙂 I did not catch about your top link while disking, is it in float mode. To lay the discs on the ground in the front and back more evenly togeather ?

    Hello, you are wasting time and fuel and a far fair comparison. Add 1000 to 2000 lbs on top of your disc and try again I think you will be happy. You are bouncing over everything because your disc weighs nothing. Add the weight and try again. Listen to your tractor and it will tell you if you have too much weight on it. The axle shaft on the disc should be crushing the dirt clods. Two passes will tell you how well you are doing and your total time will be reduced by 60-75%. You can always take the weight off.

    To make this work better. Let the top link loose. The top link lifts the harrow up, when the tractor goes in a hole..let the harrow drag on the floor

    Well, how about that, another Floridian running a tractor over a tree farm. You're about the only one I've seen with land similar to mine. Thanks for the video. I, too, have a (recently purchased) planted pine tree farm in NE Florida. As I'm sure you are aware, the land undulates (highs and lows) where the trees were planted. Mine looks like what you show at 24:49 with underbrush like you show at 25:59. I have been racking my brain with how to level it out. I have tried a rotary cutter, rotary tiller, box blade with root rake, teeth on a grapple. Nothing levels it out. I know you said you use the harrow to cut through the roughage and stumps, but does it actually level out the highs and lows and make it flat? Thanks.

    Do you ever feel like the 5ft is too much for the L2501? I have a B2601 and have been told multiple times that a 5ft is too much for it and to go with a 4ft. But seeing as the b2601 actually has almost 1hp more at the pto, and over a hundred pounds more capacity on the 3pt, I'm left pretty confused on where that line is drawn🤔

      The engine in the l2501 shares the same engine but bigger displacement. Its almost a 2 liter engine. Meaning it has more torque and less parasitic loss thru the drive train.. if you want the max out of a l2501 id go for a gear shift model. Thats the best out of every situation

    Thanks for the video. We have a similar situation - we recently had some acres and trails cleared with a forestry mulcher snd it left behind some serious sticks and small log chunks. Next step, I need to get the areas cleaned and groomed - do you think this disc harrow will help or does the area need to be cleaned more prior? Will the sticks etc just get tangled? We have a 60hp kubota - thank you sir

    • @kasken719
      @kasken719 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really recommended if there is thick grass or debris like rocks, stumps, and sticks. If its a lot of sticks then they will prevent the discs from digging into the ground. I've broken a few discs on roots and stumps before clearing the trail properly. With that said, just go slow and see how it does. It will take longer because with discs you need speed but it can still be done. Hope this helps.

    you need to open up that disc you need more offset and a little weight to increase downforce. I bolted on railroad tracks to my disc for more down pressure

  • @Dukemeistro

    Going forward with heal on floorboard is not the problem, it’s the lifting to place heal on reverse portion with no where to rest your toes or ball of foot. I have a kubota that I’m renting for a week, and my leg is getting fatigued and cramping up because of this. It’s definitely a bad design for people who will be on tractor for long periods doing repeat forward and backwards moves.

    I think ripping it first with a single or 2 bottom plow then chopping it up with this would be great. I have a 2 bottom plow and it tears it up deep but then i cant ever get it chopped up very smooth.

    • @kasken719
      @kasken719 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Had better luck with a subsoiler first to rip any roots and rocks. Those things tear up a plow but I agree. On trails, Rip it, Plow it, Disc it, and if you're insane like me, Till it, then boxblade/land plainer. Our trails are wide and smooth. Beautiful green grass makes it very relaxing to cruise on.

    Do you ever disc to enhance native forbs? I'm looking at getting a L3901 and disc. Looking to use it to maintain a stand of switchgrass and disc another part in winter to enhance native forbs. They say you need to disc or burn switchgrass to keep weeds from overtaking it or it getting too thick. My dealer quoted me for DH1060 but for $500 more I could go up a hundred pounds. Not sure if I should spend the extra $500 or just throw some sand bags on this thing for nothing. Thanks.
