Disc Harrow Reviews, Frontier vs Land Pride / 113

  • Today I'll compare the Frontier & Land Pride disc plow and do several reviews of both implements. At the end of the video, Ill announce which disc harrow I purchased based on the review results.
This Frontier & Land Pride Disc Plows are both suitable harrows that can be used on most compact tractors. The John Deere 1025 tractor would be an example of a compact tractor the disk could be used on. Both of these implements could be used to plant a food plot, for deer and other animals.
Welcome to my channel, I'm in Dubuque Iowa, and my channel is know as Today in Iowa or Bill Burkhart 1025.Be sure and check out my channel for many videos including the John Deere 1025r tractor backhoe and the many implements I have to maintain my property.
I'd enjoy hearing your comments, I answer every comment.

I appreciate you and your videos! I have a JD2320 on a homestead in NW PA. I recently retired and spend my days trying to make our home as self sufficient as possible. The tractor is a big part of that. I currently only have a front bucket, quick attach, ballast box and belly mower. I have future plans on front forks, disk harrow and box blade. So needless to say your videos are exactly what I’ve been looking for! You and your wife make excellent videos. Thank you!

Hello Kosh, thanks for taking time to comment and sending me your encouraging words. The tractor is a big part of me being able to stay on the property and maintain it in an acceptable manner. I encourage you to put the forks at the top of your list you won’t believe how much that will save your back.

Hi Bill . I would be happy with either disc . Nice your dealer let you test both. Those disc up here in Canada are hard too find and not cheap used . New are pricey . Was using my box blade the other day and was thinking it’s time for hydraulic top link . Very hot and dry up here in ontario no rain . Garden is good though . Nice too have pond water too irrigate 👍. I’m going too keep watching for used disc set . Might have too break down and buy new . Hope all is well .

Yes, the length of the collar that slides affects the ease of binding. The Land Pride sliding section appears almost twice as long, thick, whatever you want so it does not tweak the way the Frontier does. If you get the Frontier and have a welder the fix would be relatively simple though time consuming if you want to make it nice and neat.

Thanks for the video. I just used my tiller on a small section, our pigs from last year tore up pretty good, and it came out nice and thought about trying my box blade as a finishing touch but didn't. I wish I had saw this before, I think it would have worked. I tried to use an old disc harrow which was more a piece of rust than useful gear so i am researching wether or not it is worth buying and I am becoming more and more convinced this is must have for working my land and resurrecting old pasture. I have a Bush Hog 1D78" which identical to these 78" wide same adjustments. I purchased it new with my L3200 Kubota gear drive in 2013. I disc food plots on my land in east central MN. It is still in great shape after seasonal use in heavy red clay soil and a abundance of rocks of all sizes. Both it and my Landpride 60" Rotary Cutter are indispensable for the maintenance on my 80 acres. Having a 4WD diesel tractor has changed land ownership for me. I recently added a B2301 Kubota loader tractor to compliment the L3200. Thx for the video.I enjoy your implement tests.

I'll add that The Bush Hog is identical to the Landpride just wider. I picked up a Landpride scarifier this year to use before the Disc. It works better than my Moldboard Plow and doesn't bring rocks to the surface either. Thx again.

Good video. Informative. I'm a huge Land Pride fan. Their implements are very durable, well made, and easy to use. This comment is for those trying to make the decision of what harrow to buy. Unless you have specific need to change the gang layout, a angle iron style harrow instead of a box tube style ,is what you want. No changing disc angles, and it's generally cheaper.Second, buy the widest footprint, for your tractor, in whatever kind you buy. Unless you are just making a garden plot in the backyard, you'll find it's much better. And heavier to keep many passes down. Unless you run a plow first, a heavier harrow speeds up the job. Good luck and contiue on with your videos.

To ease off the green unit adjustment add a washer each side to give a little clearance. A bit of slop will do no harm. Obviously some grease would help!

Hello from Manitoba Canada. I have the Frontier myself and like it quite well but I have not tried the Land Pride. Mine adjusts easier than yours for some reason. After seeding I turn my harrows upside down to level the soil and cover the seed. Some of my soil is very rocky so I can't use the roto tiller without problems. You got a nice catch on the rye.

As far as adjusting the harrows goes, for me its pretty much a set it once and forget about it. Its not the sort of thing that one has to pplay with everytime one is using the thing. So I would go and did go myself with the wider one. I am using a 74 inch disc behind a yanmar 235 Tractor and it works well in the stoney clay we have here in east Tennessee.

Bill, the implement coming off is my reason I don't use a quick hitch on my 3point. And just think of the possible damage to an implement that uses the pto. Like a mower, tiller or snow blower. Yes it takes extra time to hook up but I feel more comfortable going old school. Plus I don't take 2 implements very often. But I do have a hydraulic top link that I use to pull my implement to the lower links.

The Frontier is 5 ft 6 in. If it were a 72 in, I have reservations about your 2038 (or 2032) being able to comfortably handling such an implement. My Kubota is 42 hp and can handle 6 ft mower, tiller. boxscraper and 7.5 ft TR3 Rake. But I use my 4x4 when doing work with the TR3 and boxscraper. My TR3 is like your boxscraper, landplane and pulverizer all in one with scarifiers for those deep rip needs. (up to 9 inches, 12 inches with longer shanks).

I have a DH1060 that I wanted to use as primary tillage after mowing whatever crop or cover crop I had growing. I have quite heavy soil and the disc barely scratches the ground. I thought maybe adding some weight on it would help a little, but i was afraid of damaging the gangs. I then called the people at land pride and they suggested me to attach a scarifier in front of the disc and use them in combination. The scarifier would rip the ground and help the gangs to go deeper down. what do you think of that? And, what about adding some weight, would you suggest that? Also, do you think the scarifier in front of the disc will collect and drag too much material around so that I'll be left with a pile of residues at the end of the field?

    • @billburkhart
      @billburkhart  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Hello Anthony, I would not hesitate for a moment to add extra weight to the Harrow as long as you drive somewhat slow. Adding the scarifier sounds like a pretty good idea as long as the teeth were spread out far enough to illuminate clumping up as you pointed out. My land pride soil pulverizer really tears the ground up and I believe you were given good information let me know how that turns out.

First time on your channel and it was interesting watching you decide on what disk you wanted. I am not familiar with these disks but my fathers IH 12' disk was adjusted by pulling the pins and then backing the tractor up or forward with the disk down on the ground. He would then lock them into the position. I think you could do that with the frontier not sure about the other disk. Oh and I live in Aiea, Hawaii. That is on the island of Oahu just north east of Honolulu.
