I'm not sure if you realize this, but I joined several different "Rope Bowl" Facebook groups and so many people recommend your channel for new ideas and for beginners. Just thought I'd let you know😊
@@CraftyPattiArtsCraftsWhat did you use to wipe your cutting board to get the glue off it? I am now seeing that you’re cleaning the clips with rubbing alcohol. I hope you can tell me what to clean out cutting boards with ?
This is so unbelievably adorable. Thank you so much. Also, it’s nice to see a grey haired lady making these items and videos for them. I’m 71 and I appreciate the older makers.
You made me laugh. Glad the grey hair encouraged you to craft away and have fun! It’s ironic as I was just thinking about how I come off as an artist that is older. So thanks for the encouragement and support. I may be old but will fill my days with arts and crafts as long as I can. I wonder if viewers will still watch a 90 year old doing crafts. lol.
Excellent! I've been searching the Internet for the right size basket for three rolls of TP to sit on top of my toilet tank with no luck. And here it is... who knew?!! Thank you so much, you have no idea how much I appreciate this tutorial! You're the BEST!
It seems it might work well to use a piece of foam core board and pins to start the base at least in the beginning. The sides could be pinned as well. You could draw your dimensions/pattern on the foam core. I haven’t made this as yet, but I definitely will be and I think I will try the straight pins. Your basket is beautiful and I’m anxious to make one for my daughter-in-law.
Beautiful project to make. It is a good way to do it a basket without a sewing machine. Beautiful color . Thank you for a nice video and good instructions to make this basket
I had a couple different designs for the handle. I had just the bare driftwood on top and you will laugh but I thought it looked like a pice of poo. lol. Kind of funny as it was being used to hold TP! Maybe covering only parts of the driftwood would have worked too.
As I am watching this video I was thinking this project would be easy to take with you if you are going on vacation and know you will have some down time. It’s easy to bring your supplies and will fill some of your time and will make for a relaxing vacation. I have always made baskets with a sewing machine. I like this project be cause I can do this in another room and not be in the sewing room by myself.
Love this basket!! I was thinking that a person could sew the bottom and then glue the sides to start the straight edge and then once it’s started you could sew. Just thinking that it would go faster. Not sure if that would work! Thanks for the great video and instructions!!!
Yes! That’s what I was thinking too! But couldn’t show that for a tutorial as anyone without a sewing machine would not be able to do this project. So I had to glue it all. It might look a bit inconsistent if you glue part and sew a part of it but it would go faster for sure.
I just thought I’d share that my issue with the doming ended up being my presser foot tension was too tight (I didn’t even know there was a tension setting) lol
Great video Patti - was wondering if you considered gluing with a hot glue gun? Would have to be very careful so it doesn't show, but I was thinking that may make the sides firmer, making them stand up and it sets up so fast you wouldn't need clips.. All that gluing would drive me nuts! I think I will definitely sew bottom and top lid and then glue all the vertical portions. Seems like the mod podge would further strengthen the sides. You are the best teacher on TH-cam!!
I used the fabric glue because it is permanent and washable. I find hot glue does not work the best for the rope bowls. Lots of comments on sewing some parts and gluing some. This will work but for the video I needed to keep it consistent so glued the whole basket. Especially for those that do not own sewing machines. It will be fun to try different methods for sure. Enjoy!
@@CraftyPattiArtsCraftsthank you , I do not own a sewing machine. And I like that if I use this glue that you used that I can do this slowly. And wash the bowls. As they can get dusty. And also I am good with using these clips as I go. Also and wondering the cost of this craft? And what other fabric maybe we can use, that is the cost that I am worried about, crafting can get pricey when living on a fixed income. Anyways thank you for taking time to slowly show us how to make things. I’ve watched two of your videos so far. Cloth paper one and thus one.
The rope is anywhere from $10-$20 depending on where you live and where you buy it. Try going to second hand stores for the fabric to save money. All crafts have some expense to them but of course it’s the fun in making something homemade.
@@LoverofSunflowernBeesyou can try to dollar tree for your cord. They have different types of cord some is even colored so you can do without the fabric so it's even less expensive. Happy crafting.
I’m wondering if the tackiness of the mod podge and fabric fusion lessened or went away after a few days. Can you let us know please? Love your tutorials! Very clear and thorough instructions. Thank you so much! Also, I see your videos are recommended to watch in the rope bowl groups I’ve joined. I recommend your videos often as well. In my opinion, you make the absolute best tutorials. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and expertise. ❤
There is a product called Stiffen, a spray on. I habe used it on 2 of my bowls and like the results. The sides of the rope bowls get firm. might want to compare the 2 products. I will make this hold. Great idea.
This is genius! Thanks for explaining how to make the size you want. It makes total sense! I love that fabric glue. I use this and beacon fabric-tac glue and am wondering if you’ve tried it. It’s kinda my go to and dries much faster than aleens fabric glue and is just as strong…..though doesn’t dry shiny. Just curious?
This is so cool. I can’t wait to be that advanced to actually make something in a certain size. I have a question. I’m just trying to make a flat trivet and the center of the trivet is doming upwards. I do have a completely flat sewing area. I have one of those quilters things that sits up against my sewing machine. I’ve restarted it twice so far and now I’m gonna have to restart it again cause it’s doming up in the middle and I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. are my stitches too tight, I’m on 5.5 zigzag, 3 stitch length and I’m using quarter inch 100% cotton rope.
If it’s doming than you might be pulling on the cord. Just let it slide between your fingers and just help guide it to the cord beside it. Keep your left hand flat on the rounds on the left while you are sewing.
Beautiful Basket - I have to ask - how did you get the glue off your cutting mat ? And - did the tackiness go away on the basket. AND - have you tried to make this sewing it together? Thanks for the wonderful Video !!!
The glue was still wet so just wiped it off with with soap and water. The tackiness is gone now. As I mentioned in the video I wanted straight up sides right from the bottom and with this shape of basket it is more challenging to sew this shape. I did try and it was angling out too much for my liking.
Question, do you think it would work if you sewed the bottom, then glued only one or two rows to get you started on the correct angle and then sew again for the rest of the height?
Cutting on the bias eliminates some fraying but not all of it. For this type of wrap you will get some fraying if you are sewing the basket but next to none if you are gluing the basket.

I just used dish soap as the glue was still wet. Got smarter and protected my cutting board later in the video.

Yup. Practice makes perfect!
I just thought I’d share that my issue with the doming ended up being my presser foot tension was too tight (I didn’t even know there was a tension setting) lol
Aaahh. Yes. That makes sense if it was pulling too much from too much tension from the presser foot. Good detective work!

I love the basket. It's been a few days since you posted, any update on the stickiness?
It’s less sticky everyday. Confident that it will be fine.

Patti, I love your bowl and the great video. Can these glued bowls hold much weight?
I think so! I’ve tried a couple of glued rope bowls and they are staying together nicely.
@@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts I’m making my first this week! Thank you!
Could you sew until you get to sides? Glue the next few and then sew the rest one the correct angle is obtained.
You can sew the base if you want and see how it goes for you. I glued the whole basket for those that do not have sewing machines.
Question, do you think it would work if you sewed the bottom, then glued only one or two rows to get you started on the correct angle and then sew again for the rest of the height?
You can but for this video kept it all glued for those that do not have sewing machines.
How much practice should someone that has NEVER done this craft do before trying this basket.
I give lots of instructions to be successful. It is easier to glue a rope basket than sew it so you should be okay.
Great question, great advice!
Thanks!
I know you’re cutting on the bias but how do you keep your fabric from fraying?
Cutting on the bias eliminates some fraying but not all of it. For this type of wrap you will get some fraying if you are sewing the basket but next to none if you are gluing the basket.
Since its glued, how would you be able to clean it?
I would vacuum any collected dust and use a wet cloth to wipe off any dirt. Or gentle hand wash as I did use fabric glue which is washable.
you reply to every comment!!!!!! 💗
I try
Linda ❤👏👏👏👏🇧🇷
Thanks!
Can you use waxed paper
Yes you can use waxed paper instead of the parchment paper I used.
Can you use a glue gun? This looks like fun!!!
I find glue guns are harder to control for the amount of glue coming out and the glue I used will hold up better as well.
