I didn’t know you could dye with acrylic paints! That’s fantastic! It’s a joy to watch your video, your voice is so pleasant, soothing, and kind 🤗. Your instruction is easy to understand and you’ve inspired me!! Church bazaar, I’ve got my project for this season! Woohooo!!!
Oh my god, i love this vidro. So informative, short on verbosity. To the point. Creative. Love the color graduation and the extra medallion on which can be glued a monigram. Would make a super housewarming gift. I am looking forward to your other videos.
This is the BEST video I have seen on dying rope for bowls! So easy and just beautiful with the ombré finish. It was just what I was looking for. I see many of these in my future! Thank you so much.
Thanks for sharing your dying technique. I never thought of using acrylic paints which I've gott lots of and graduating the same piece of rope. You taught me something today. Bless you.
A member showed her bowls at our quilt group meeting today Another looked at me and teased that I would probably dye my rope to get an ombre look instead of covering with fabric. Now thanks to you, I may just walk into that next meeting with my ombre bowl that has been dyed. That is genius to use diluted acrylic paint. Thank you so much. I have been going down a rabbit hole watching your videos.
@@mimitodd8781 It turned out great. I just completed it. I didn't weigh down the rope when I let it soak for about 10 minutes. So it was not all submerged. No problem, The color was more varied and I like it. It is just another option. It also shows you can goof up and it will be wonderful. I left it dry overnight on plastic Thank you for all of your help. This was fun.
I love the ombré colors on your bowl. I can imagine quartering several 100 ft lengths of rope and dying them to make several bowls of the same colors. I just subscribed.
WOW! I really appreciate the idea of acrylic paint. It is now Sunday night, oh how I wish I would have seen this earlier . But I will try to contain myself til tomorrow to get the paint. LOL Thank you so much
Thank you so much for this tutorial, I love the idea of using paint instead of dye. I’m thinking of starting with the lightest colour in my bowl then darkening the colour in the bowl each time so don’t have to have four separate bowls of colour.
thank you for the video. I want to make a colorful bowl for my nephew and nieces for easter, and I have a lot of paints, so I will try that for sure! and the video was very informative and not too long, like some others. Thank you so much for sharing!
Thank you for this beginner rope bowl tutorial. SO. Helpful! Your bowls are simply stunning!!! I see that you’re using a cotton/poly blend rope. Not only does Walmart no longer have it in white, they don’t seem to have anything made with those materials. What would you suggest for a substitute that makes such a nice, sturdy bowl? There are so many different blends and diameters. Thanks so much. I’m excited to get started.
I feel your pain regarding the clothesline rope. I’ve ordered some rope off Amazon to try. It’s thicker and softer so I am not sure how this will work. Certain I will need some type of stiffener. Working on that project next week so stay tuned!😊
Those are my favourite colours! What a beautiful job you have done and a fantastic tutorial! I have now subscribed to you. I would be thrilled to win one of these gorgeous bowls. 🤗💕
Thanks! It is my experience that acrylic paints don’t wash out. Not sure why a rope bowl would need to be washed. If you wanted to put something wet inside, your could line the bowl with a plastic bowl insert.
The acrylic paint will not wash out. However I do not recommend washing the bowl. It will soften and lose its shape. You can wipe with a damp cloth or better yet put a coat of Modge Podge sealer to protect the bowl. Hope your bowl turns out great! Be sure to check out my rope bowl play list!
Hi, I watched a tutorial and the person used a pin on the new rope, pinning it to the already made part. Then used a chopstick to push the cut pieces ends together and just zigzagged it to catch them. You could also use a dab of glue on the meeting ends.
Do you need a certain sewing machine needle for sewing on the rope? Also, do you you use regular thread or heavier thread to sew the rope? Love the colors you have chosen!
I wish I had found this tutorial yesterday before I used Rit dye. What a royal pain that was and I was so afraid I would spill the dye. You pretty much have to do it near the stove because you have to use very hot water. I want to make a lot of these as gifts. But with the Rit dye I worry about it bleeding onto carpet or whatever is under it if it gets wet by chance - because that stuff is powerful. Have you had a chance to test your method with the bowls getting wet and if so, how they react? I absolutely loved this ombre effect and the colors you chose. I like the way you finished it too. I'm working on making charms out of clay as a unique way to finish it. Thanks so much for this great tutorial. It was really well done.
Thank you for your comments! I chose the paint because Rit dye was way too much of a mess and its permanent! I haven’t checked with the bowl getting wet but the clothesline rope is made for outdoor use so I think it would be ok. I am also looking at ways to making it a more harder bowl after sewing it. Researching varnishes to see which would make it stiffer. I will let you know what I find out. I am so glad you like it.
@@mimitodd8781 I love it!! Yes, the rope would be fine but I'm wanting to make sure the paint or dye doesn't bleed when wet. And yes I would love to see what you come up with to make the bowls a bit harder. I do believe tighter zig zags help. But I hadn't thought of a varnish. Hope you find something.
I like that you're using acrylic paints. Your process and description of steps by steps is PERFECT! Thank you!!! Question: If your bowl gets wet, will the acrylic paints bleed?
Beautiful!!!! But you said something at the beginning about the paint being water based, does that mean if you ever need to wash it that the colors will fade? Or will they become permanent after a certain period?
It is my experience working with acrylic paints that they don’t wash out. I’ve gotten paint on my clothes and even after numerous washes it’s still stained. My bigger concern about washing the rope bowl is the stiffness of the bowl may be weakened. And this could cause your bowl to become soft and loose. Hope this answers your question. Thank you!
Just saw your tutorial on using the paint. What brand did you use. I just bought some at Walmart. Think it was Apple something but I noticed they had matte, satin and bold. Which one did you use. Thanks
Thanks! It takes me about an hour to sew one large bowl. But it can take longer if it’s your first time. I also have 4 bobbins loaded with thread ready to go.
@@mimitodd8781 pre loaded bobbins are a great idea. End of last year I made several small ones to test for sell appeal. They needed color, and were not large enough or interesting enough for the necessary price point. May try your acrylic paint method for dying.
Well I’ve made many of those bowls and used up all the blue paint. I stated the base with a dark blue and then moved up to the next lighter shade of blue. When you go to purchase the paints they are usually stocked in colors so just move up the colors from dark to light and then take your 4 colors over to the thread section and match the paints. Hope this helps! I plan to make a spring basket next month with directions so stay tuned for that tutorial!
You could spot wipe these but I would not dip in dishwater. It could weaken the walls of the bowl. I use acrylic paints that you buy in bottles from Walmart. If you’ve ever gotten acrylic paint on your clothes it is really hard to get out. Hope this helps! Thanks!🙂
Is this washable once died? Will the color come out? I am making some and using Rit Dye. I would like to use this method since it would be much easier. and faster.
I would only spot clean if needed. Soaking it in water may make the bowl weak. My experience with acrylic paint is that it doesn’t wash out. I have plenty of clothes stained with paint to prove it doesn’t come out?🤣 Hope this helps! Let me know how your project turns out and welcome to my channel friend!
I measured my latest bowl which was made using 100 feet of rope. The base of the bowl is 5 inches across. The height of the bowl is 7 inches and is 11 wide across the top. What type of Acrylic paint did you use? How much water & paint for I tried it tonight and the rope just did not seem to take to the rope. I ended up putting it on by hand when the rope was wet. Is there a certain water temperature and how long to soak. in the water?
@user-yc3mu9kx3l I use the folk art brand from Walmart. I usually use 1/2 of a small bottle with about 4 cups of water. Use more paint if you want a deeper color. Use less paint if you want an ombré look. Most importantly use 100% cotton rope for dyeing. The poly cotton does not take the color well. I used cool tap water.
The clothesline rope is made for outside use so I guess it could be washed after it is made into a bowl. However the shape of the bowl may be altered if it gets wet.
