  • Britain needs to be prepared for some "difficult times" ahead as it leaves the European Union, Prime Minister Theresa May has said.
Speaking to the Andrew Marr Show - in her first major interview since taking office - Mrs May warned Brexit would not be "plain sailing" for the UK. She said formal EU talks will not begin until 2017, but vowed the process would not be "kicked into the long grass". Mrs May also ruled out a snap election, saying the UK needs "stability".

What is the point in listening to her when she can't answer a straight question with a straight answer. Politicians really seem to want to keep the general public in the dark, and then accuse us of been stupid and disinterested. We need a new political system, one where the people we 'put in charge', actually work for us and not just every action is intended to keep us subdued, ignorant and blindly following.

+Das Neko We don't want to be in the EU we want to be a independent sovereign nation. If that's difficult or challenging that is life the end result will be worth it. And I was never going to vote remain to avoid any possible difficulty.

      SILVERCLOUD141
Well to start with being part of the EU has nothing to do with being a sovereign state or not. Its just a convenient argument for patriots because they need no more reason or logic behind it for it to have weight.

    • @SILVERCLOUD141
      @SILVERCLOUD141 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

+Das Neko EU countries aren't sovereign the EU has far too much say in member states. Laws policies and borders are not fully in the member states control. Wanting your country to be in full control of its own law making laws and borders needs no excuse.

They just get money by stealing it off the British people instead, £3-£4 billion annually in stealth "TV license fee tax" which hits the poorest hardest, to spew out endless government propaganda on a State-run State-own media monopoly. Oh and they do many commercial activities on the side too, including considerable exports around the world, licensing and DVD sales. None of that is mentioned of course, and the BBC is not accountable or audited, despite being technically public owned. It has one shareholder and beneficiary, the government and political elite in parliament.

Theresa Mary May (née Brasier; born 1 October 1956) is the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and the Leader of the Conservative Party.
She has also been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Maidenhead since 1997.
May identifies as a one-nation conservative and is characterised as a liberal conservative.
She is the second woman to hold the post of UK Prime Minister.
The daughter of a vicar, May grew up in Oxfordshire.
From 1977 until 1983, she worked for the Bank of England, and from 1985 until 1997 at the Association for Payment Clearing Services, also serving as a councillor for Durnsford in Merton.
After unsuccessful attempts to be elected to the House of Commons in 1992 and 1994, she was elected as the MP for Maidenhead in the 1997 general election.
From 1999 to 2010, May served in a number of roles in the Shadow Cabinets of William Hague, Iain Duncan Smith, Michael Howard, and David Cameron, including Shadow Transport Secretary and Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary.
She was also Chairman of the Conservative Party from 2002 to 2003.
After the formation of a coalition government following the 2010 general election, May was appointed Home Secretary and Minister for Women and Equalities, giving up the latter role in 2012.
Reappointed after the Conservative victory in the 2015 general election, she went on to become the longest-serving Home Secretary since James Chuter Ede over 60 years previously.
During her tenure she pursued reform of the Police Federation, implemented a harder line on drugs policy including the banning of khat, oversaw the introduction of elected Police and Crime Commissioners, the deportation of Abu Qatada, the creation of the National Crime Agency and brought in additional restrictions on immigration.
Following the resignation of David Cameron on 24 June 2016, May announced her candidacy for the leadership of the Conservative Party and quickly emerged as the front-runner.
She won the first ballot of Conservative MPs on 5 July by a significant margin, and two days later won the votes of 199 MPs, going forward to face a vote of Conservative Party members in a contest with Andrea Leadsom.
Leadsom's withdrawal from the election on 11 July led to May's appointment as leader the same day.
She was appointed Prime Minister two days later, the second woman to hold both offices.

Remember there is no such thing as a soft or hard Brexit, There is ONLY BREXIT, which is what the Nation voted for. We want none of May’s add on’s, or anything taken away, we want what we voted for. We don’t want May to sit on the fence for another two years, waiting for someone or something to bring our referendum vote to a complete stop, either. If May does not like the heat in the kitchen, get out and let someone else do the job that can. May must get on with the job and “WITH SOME KIND OF ENTHUSIASM, OR GET THE HELL OUT OF OUR WAY.”

"Brexit may bring difficult times". well. Hell. The vast majority of us, hard working, honest people, have been struggling for decades just to try and carve a semi stable life for our families. Brexit happened because we have had enough of being ripped off and pushed around. living from pay day to pay day, taxed on every bloody thing, and EU restrictions placed upon our businesses, councils, and education of our children. If any hard times come, we will carry on fighting our daily fight as we always have done. I think we were quite aware what our choice could bring, but it's the only way change will happen.

I'm for Brexit but I think May is a little narrow minded in rushing head long thinking she will negotiate by herself. What this really tells me is she has no plans to negotiate but to just legally sign new western trade agreements & with anyone else that will benefit each other. I don't think May plans on actually negotiating in good conscience. I think EU will eat her lunch & she's likely to be removed before the two years get hear. But, I support the return of GB & England returning to pre EU times. I don't think May is a M. Thatcher. But, I wish her well in representing her own people. She does have a problem with just answering a simple yes or no. I think it will all work out but with a less ideal relationship with EU. Give her credit she's running around changing her mind every interview she gives.

There seems to be a general consensus among political commentators and UK and EU politicians that once Article 50 is triggered, the negotiating process will take much, much longer than the two years that was previously being touted; in fact many see it lasting as long as 10 years. So it seems to be a given that our next General Election (2020) will come long before negotiations have concluded, and since a vote for Labour under Owen Smith or the Lib Dems under Tim Farron means a vote for staying in the EU, the General Election will effectively be a second referendum on EU membership.

I just can't understand the phrase "economy that works for everyone". Economy is not a zero sum game, either you favour big corporations and huge profits (which you do if you are a conservative prime minister), or you favour workers dignity (which labour party should do). It's obvious that ordinary working class English people would suffer under Ms. Theresa May's government.

Just to elaborate on my previous comment by broadening the subject. All politicians are vague with their answers and only give details when it suits them. It had become such a cliché about politics that they can rely on our complacency and our disregard. we need to star forcing them to answer our questions and not just let them recite policy.
Plus Andrew Marr is only interrupting her because she isn't answering his question, so why give her the air time to spout the same thing over and over again?

What is the point of this interview when Teresa Vague is unable to give conclusive answers to any of the questions? I'm under the impression that nobody in British government knows what will really happen after article 50 is triggered. She (Teresa) is behaving here like a motivational talker talking only about being optimist, challenges etc. I only hope that EU won't give in and she will be unable to secure both trade agreements and and control on immigration at the same time.
