- Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer has given his first speech as UK prime minister.
Addressing the nation outside Number 10 Downing Street in London, the new prime minister promised to "rebuild" the country's "infrastructure of opportunity... brick by brick".
Labour achieved a landslide victory in the UK general election - ending 14 years of Conservative government.

I was in junior school when the conservatives got in. Now im 25 turning 26 with a full time job and only now seeing change in the country after 14 years. That's why this change means so much to me; forget pension policies, i can't even afford property yet. This is about my future that has barely even started.

I wholeheartedly agree. I am a lifelong Labour voter, however Kier Starmer is the first Labour PM I can remember that seems like a decent guy. I'm a Durham Miner's granddaughter and I couldn't, in good conscious, vote anything but Labour, but Starmer seems like he WANTS to make a difference, for everyone.

@@smunro1983We already did have a referendum on it in 2011. The establishment basically ran a smear campaign against changing it and as such the people voted to keep it. Any real idea of changing the voting system is completely dead since then.

@@antispindr8613 "high income taxers" are usually very short sighted and don't understand how the world really works. If you tax companies high %, they will literally just move to another country. You should be competitive and charge as low % tax as you can to be competitive - see GCC countries. The UKs tax rates are insanely high for what you're getting - a cold, wet, miserable country with pothole roads, failing health system and public transport. They should be charging as little as they can to attract people to want to do business in the UK and grow the economy. The UK is built on the value it once stole, and now it's realising it. Time to humble ourselves and make the UK an attractive offer again.
