- The Prime Minister has spelled out her plans for Brexit - with a warning that she is ready to walk away from negotiations unless Brussels offers a good deal.
Theresa May promised that MPs would get a vote on that deal. But she also made clear that Brexit would mean leaving the single market for good.

5 years on and this has transformed into brilliant satire.
Hurry up and get out already
Imran Heslop Lol a Jamaican saying this now.
What a legend of a women. Strong and bold. "No deal is better than the bad deal we have now!!"
That aged well 🤣
The only way is ----------------------> *OUT!*
Only way to what? A damaging recession!
Your argument is overwhelmingly well put, let's all follow the fools now!
If we all followed the fools we wouldn't be leaving, we would still be ruled by unelected morons bleeding us dry
Sorry Graham, but we don't follow remoaning fools.
There is a definite difference between the comments that are pro and anti leave. Pro leavers post comments which are mature and measured. Anti leavers post comments that look as if they have been written by a 13 year old with learning difficulties.
DEUS VULT funny that very comment is immature in and of itself.
"in and of itself" Bwahaahahaha
We just want a sensible trade deal with the EU, not to be part of a cult. If the EU doesn't want that, it speaks volumes about what we're dealing with!!
Blackmailing the EU by saying that Britain will have to reconsider her economic system then is ok, in your humble opinion? This speaks volumes about who is leaving the EU too.
They chose this path not the U.K.
Exactly... The EU is an ideological wet dream that we never chose to join in. It's time to put things right and go our own way.
"We want a hard brexit but still want to be friends" - fracking hell, what a load of pathetic half baked waffle...
Or maybe it's time to stop fooling ourselves... It has been blatantly obvious to anyone with more than two brain cells that all this "EU REFERENDUM" fiasco has nothing to do with the interests or "protection of the British people" (just look at the tories - and "new labour's" - track record) and everything to do with the "ring fencing" and protection of what ALREADY IS the most deregulated, money laundering, TAX HAVEN cesspit in the world and the parasitic scumbags in the city of London.
Or does anyone really think it's "the biggest financial centre in the world" because they have your and the country's 'interest' at heart?!?!
Time to wake the fracking hell up
Theresa May should ban the Severn bridge toll fee. This will unite England and Wales.
At the moment it cost £6.70 to come over into Wales.
If that isn't a divide I don't know what is?
They make £50m a year from that bridge. I see being united meaning travelling within the UK should be free. FREEDOM and not tax.
Aston Bright Without that bridge it used to cost about 80 quid to drive all the way around...I happily pay 6 quid for that engineering masterpiece.
They should have made it £200; it was the English voters in Wales who who gave them their leave vote. The natives there share the same sentiments as the Scots and Irish.
Why "nationalists" want to be a part of a United States of Europe is beyond me.
Scotland joined the UK with the act of a Scottish King, King James VI of The Scots.
There is a solution for the UK which is not extreme, but is radically different to what we have now, which will work well. What other country in Europe is made up of 4 different countries & has a very fair and libertarian society?
Switzerland.
Bob Bobberton
And give free helicopter rides to all those evil Leave voters!!!

Union of the Crowns was done under King Jamies VI...
I find at bizarre that anyone would perceive it to be a negative thing to be an independant self governing nation. 195 Countries around the world have exactly that status.
Where does this love of the political entity, the EU, come from?....and why do non British people care so much about what we decide about the future of our country?
That's because we've always been self governing.
Charlie Carter I find it bizarre that an independent self governing nation wants so desperately to become an independent self governing nation!
Charlie Carter Because they're scared other people will do the same.
+Charlie Carter the EU is a direct result of Great Britain winning World War II against Germany. If that hadn't have happened there wouldn't be an EU today. At the end of the day the British people have decided that they can go as far as they can within this institution and that after we have consolidated and embraced a now friendly group of nations our job is done and it is time to move on. I voted to leave and are very proud to have done.
The future for the planet is closer relationships with each other. A strong belief in our countries yet also a connectedness that goes beyond nationalism.
We threw that away. We have taken a step back in history.
It would be akin to us leaving the UN or Nato. Let's just be our own isolationist rock with friends of other nations.
An excellent, well considered speech. Encapsulates what a great many "Brexit"voters want for our country. An outward looking confident nation which wants to trade with the whole world.Good Luck!
agree she was straightforward and to the point, sooner we stop the eu constantly interfering the better.
I agree that UK should leave EU , this is because , some poor countries of EU receive lots of funds from UK , Germany ... Those countries is Poland , Czech , Hungary ..
Then came the speach in Florence.Con woman, appeaser, weak, weak, weak.
Theresa May was part of the remain campaign.
When I see the huge political mess Brexit has caused in the UK and the lack of commitment of the Britons, (even the remainers who cannot find a consensus on how or when to rejoin), Brussels should erect a statue for David Cameron.
Thanks to the Brexiteers I don´t take the advantages of the EU for granted anymore!
This make great listening 4 years later. There have been no positives from her list achieved and the things that she said would be protected have not been. What a disaster - all the brainchild of the Conservative Party - do remember that
If only these words didn't turn out to be hollow
What a breath of fresh air! Finally, this country is looking at hope.
Well this has aged well hasn’t it?
In this life time please
If only someone in the Leave campaign could have put this case then (A) the support for Brexit would have been far higher than 52% and (B) the referendum debate would have been on a far higher level of responsibility and honesty in fitting the magnitude of the decision.
The referendum was advisory, that much is clear. If the referendum was conducted now the result would an overwhelming majority in favor of staying within in the EU.
Try to put your thoughts into perspective and come back down to earth.

If only someone in the Leave campaign could have put the case that Mrs. May put today then (A) the support for Brexit would have been far higher than 52% and (B) the referendum debate would have been on a far higher level of responsibility and honesty in fitting with the magnitude of the decision.
Mrs. May covered everything. No question about the UK position was left unanswered. The ball is now in the EU court. How quickly will the EU come back and outline its negotiating position? Not tomorrow or even this year. That's the problem, it cannot make the right decision in time. Not today or within a year. They will be entirely flummoxed by Mrs. May's speech even though it outlined their only possible response.
The Treaty of Rome, the Common Market, the EEC and ultimately the EU has been successful in preventing war in Europe with the exception of the former Yugoslavia with ethnic cleansing on their doorstep that was only stopped by UK and US intervention. The EU has some other massive fails; they have failed to keep births above deaths, over-subsidised their farmers when they could have bought cheaper from abroad (the CAP is their biggest spend) with the consequence that their citizens have to pay over the odds for farm produce and pay extra tax to subsidise their farmers and pay further extra tax to support all the migrants from every corner of Africa because they shunned their trade, they failed to do the right thing with the PIIGS and pressed poorer members to subsidise the PIIGS overspending and debt, they have tens of thousands of bureaucrats paid more than the UK PM and refuse to have their spend audited. I could go on and on.Far from being an economic success the EUs share of world trade has been in decline for decades with the consequence that there is 45% youth unemployment in Spain and Greece. Their 100% acceptance of PC has resulted in a significant rise in murders in Norway and Sweden becoming the rape capital of the world. Norway and Sweden are not EU members but their torment is due to being related to the EU.
Now we have one of the EUs biggest fails, loosing the UK which contributed £250m per week to their excesses. And all for want of them admitting that free movement of workers was fine but failed when all the best educated young people with the most to offer their own country fled EU management and came to the UK.
Comments welcome.
Graham Beard It certainly would not. I dont know anyone that regrets voting leave and i know alot of people
The facts, the last by-election result and the polls show differently, not by a few margin points but by massive margin points that far exceed margins of error!
That simply isn't true Graham.
Yeah it was a good speech, but why do i have a feeling its all lies. She gives a great speech to reduce the tension but.. these polititons dont respect what the public wants.
Get this woman a comb.
wouldbegood She'll soon be sharing Trumps!
It was an inspiring speech indeed, A shame then that she has U turned on everything she says here,
Inspiring? The amount of lies this woman has told is magnificently ridiculous. Her nose grows every time she speaks
she is doing it....a bit slow like ..but shes doing it
She voted to remain which is in essence a vote for a dictatorial fascist dictatorship which has no place for true democracy.
The UK is by far NOT a true democracy.
What a bunch of stupid fascist crap. She should graze in the meadows.
I notice that Sky omits all the difficult questions that the Vicar's daughter was asked after this speech. Rupert Murdoch wouldn't want that ;)
Waffle...... just get article 50 done and get on with it. A "Remainer" Tory..... she will slow this down..... and string it out for as long as she can.
Griff MJ she's no Maggie , she has nothing about her ....fraud
2 years on, still no brexit.
I am listening to Prime Minister Theresa May speak at the US GOP meeting in Philadelphia at this moment. She sounds really good to me, I like her.
I kept believing in her - increasingly with doubt - until 30th March (2019).
Really good? Well she’s took 2 years to sort brexit! LIAR
Does anyone know if this is the first speech she delivered, regarding brexit?
Britain never never ever shall be inslaved not by any one
What a cool English she speaks
the younger generation need a say!
This speech, i can't imagine from any world's leaders.
Only 180 views on TH-cam at this point..... 😐 seems people really aren't interested in uk politics
Or most people watched it on the national TV news..
Or perhaps they watched it live on TV? Almost 300 views in one hour is not too shabby either.
James Neasham
Millions of us are. Only idiots would not be interested in Remainer May betraying Brexit!
She is great speech
Sad to hear this speech again knowing the position parliament and HMG have got into. Very disappointing
Heard the word "plan" but didn't hear what it was ?
After all the talk of how they will punish Britain. What did they expect , a bunch of flowers
Why did this speech take 7 months to make ??
She could always talk the talk!
I really like her speech , especially her accent
I want 1:02 1:14 1:27 1:46
Pretty clear message: going back to the old stereotypical mercantile, self important, hypocritical Britain.
She just woke up or something??? 🤔
I like your speech 🤩😍🥰😘😎
Brexit means Brexit
We have no written constitution , did she just say that?
it probably take 30 years to see a successful Brexit
Narrow
Britain as a country has courage, tremendous courage, it always has done, and so does Theresa May, for giving the country what it voted for, Brexit. Don't forget that David Cameron walked away from a Brexit Britain, Theresa May has not.
no one want a poor neighbour
amazing im very happy with this!! there is a chance for peace and new ideas and trade opertunitys!!!! bring it on!
How’s the trade deal working out? FYI it’s ‘opportunities’. Turn on autocorrect 🤣
I always liked Theresa May :)
"We want a hard brexit but still want to be friends" - fracking hell, what a load of pathetic half baked waffle...
Enough of this pathetic, treasonous hypocrisy. Well maybe it's time to stop fooling ourselves...
Time to wake the fracking hell up
Parabéns Reino Unido! Viva o Brexit!
Our leaders need to get the trust of the people back who they work for not say they will then don't.
Welcome to the brexit Britain, begging EU drivers and butchers for help 🙈😎🙈😄🙈
What is the moral authority when in one hand Teresa May as a European region government head proclaims leaving European unity and in other hand appeals for Britain government heads to stay in, to remain, and to not leave the United Kingdom? Don't she see whilst she announces these 12 principles of leaving the EU, she is drafting the very reasons why politicians from other UK nations will claim in regards to leaving the United kingdom? "Do as I say and not as I do!"
It all sounded so promising
This did not age well. I hope that the cry to be stronger as a British Union when both Northern Ireland and Scotland want to consider this further. If a Union of 28 states is so bad to run from, it amazes me a bit that England is so hellbent on believing in a union with the Scots and Irish. Why not just leave them behind too when all banking services moves to EU?
Well one year later and she's bottled it.
She's no prime minister of mine.
I really hope May and Trump arrange a good, fair, free trade deal on Friday, which benefits both our countries.
wont happen
MAKE BRITAIN GREAT AGAIN
hahahahahaah
MAGA (Make America Great Again) is so well known now, how about adjusting MBGA by adding an A:
Make aBritain Great Again?
PUT THE GREAT BACK INTO BRITAIN
Wait until the recession from Brexit passes through, then talk about making Britain Great again.
EU is formed by total illusion without fully realizing the actual economic and social progress of each member country. It is more about subsidizing the poorer nations at the total expense of the rich.Does it benefit everybody equally ?
Great speech! Shame about the constant Twitter commentary with snide remarks from some of the Sky News team.
i would be proud to have a prime minister like that. what a wonderful speech she delivered
great leader, that's all UK needed
tit.
She's not a great leader.
Bwahahahahaha
No Name hope for the best bro
alex your out of your mind lol
I believed her, I voted for her, Liar!
She does waffle on about nothing for a long time.
Well, she had to fill the hour, and I can only assume ''we're leaving'' didn't quite manage it.
malsahth She told me no more than I knew already I suppose she made it clear that the UK wont be looking for a Norwegian or Swiss relationship with the EU and that's about it. Leaving will take several years and I suspect sorting out trade agreements with the rest of the world will also take a while.
we want everything bla bla bla we are rich and want to become more rich bla bla bla .. dont mess with use bla bla blaa... crap talk bla bla bla
A hopelessly feeble PM, who was anti Brexit until the referendum result. She then tried to propose a pale and wishy washy deal with the EU, but because she wasn’t a real believer in Brexit, she dragged her feet when negotiating a deal with the EU. Her EU counterparts and her own party sensed her heart wasn’t in these Brexit negotiations. Her decision to call an election was rash and rebounded on her as the election result gave her only a wafer thin margin of seats over the Labour Party, meaning she had to rely on the DUPl to get legislation through Parliament. It was at that moment, she was politically dead in the water. The election campaign showed she had zero charisma and dynamism and was seen as robotic as a speaker. On hindsight, she was at best a middle ranking minister who had nothing in the way of leadership qualities.
She basically said that the UK would join the world by leaving its nearest and biggest partners? Is it logical?
France is identical to the UK in terms of both population and GDP per capita and sits in joint second place after Germany. Italy's population is 4 million below the UK and it's GDP per capita is approximately 5kUSD behind the UK. Spain's population is 7 million below the UK and it's GDP per capita is 8kUSD behind the UK. Nothing was incorrect in what I said. After discussing the UK and Germany I qualified "most of the rest"..NOT "all of the rest" as non-countries with 5-10 million population and very poor GDP. Do try to pay attention when a commentator of my calibre is speaking. I did not explicitly mention Italy or Spain (or indeed ROI, Greece or Portugal for that matter). These are the PIIGS, too big to fail and next in line for an EU bailout. In many ways, these are more of a problem then the low contributing eastern European member states. OUT.
+billiepipersteeth very logical answer in my opinion
Samuel L we have no choice but to link with the US... The EU will prove very hard to give UK any deal out of spite and not to set a precedence for others to leave and demand the same deal. Theresa is taking on the mess that we all voted. Trump could save us from drowning! we need the US now more than ever
billiepipersteeth the best comment here
Being a Slovak citizen (not living in UK) I also want to have someone with the same mind in our (corrupted ) government and OUT OF EU!! Nice speech!
Impressive speech with a positive outlook. Long live the UK :)
No more housing crisis, no more nhs crisis, no more border security worries, no more islam to worry about would be nice.
is she going to reform the muslim schools as well. is she going to make them follow the same laws as everybody else in the uk.
lmutley I hope so
They follow another legislation? pleade dont be fool.
p.d. your grandsons will be 👨🏽🦱 😘😘
If Europe sinks the British Pound - what does this mean? Is a weak British Pound a good option for the British people if their House is suddenly 20 % less worth? What a disaster for British people if they had worked a whole life and suddenly they must pay 20 % for nothing?
I still have same mind with my Oxford's Chancellor in VOX. EU is very important but we can't disappear the Referendum. Democracy could be asked here. Everybody would be hurt caused their voices went indefinetely to realize. Keep work well Madam ! 🇬🇧❤️
O my God ,5years
Worst PM ever
With Oceanus she is smart cop , dumb cop. Ok, please. That is how she need go with myself.
The stone the builders rejected , Jack, I will build upon. Seshat is the Stone Name, please. My Rock. Please.
nobody voted her in
PM Teresa may, soo political women, I luv to listen always her speech/so strong / inspiring/clear etc .......I'm not from uk, but I'm with her 100%
13:19 but we are not in control of our own laws...
She just admitted to being a puppet..
This is the moment that an agreement with the EU acceptable to parliament became impossible. The red lines ruled out any kind of relationship within the European sphere of influence with even Turkey was rejected as a model. The wish to keep the Irish border open, bar free movement and leave the customs Union were incompatible.
What a great leader she truly is,
Sock!
Beat it moron.
Despeville Guessing your a Labour supporter? Just look back and think, what has Labour done that's good for our country (accept for the NHS)? Every brilliant leader has been conservative.
What a truly stupid thing to say, nobody of any substance or holding even an ounce of leadership skills would threaten to circumvent the democratic process and dissolve the House of Lords because she was having a hissy fit and frightened witless that they might vote to save the country from a psychotic maniac who purports to be the PM (unelected by the people)
And beautiful!!!!!!
Great speech but basically a gigantic wish list. Obviously if the UK gets everything they are asking for; a great trade deal but with closed borders. Immigration only to a select few that "add value" but not to refugees that need help - it would be a huge win. But it won't happen. Why would Germany or France vote to remain - just to fund the whole thing and be stuck with the huge refugee problem (the result of a failed US policy in the Middle East) and the costs and other enormous problems associated with it. Maybe the idea of turning the UK into a tax haven is not such a bad idea. Create a low tax environment that will appeal to wealthy individuals and corporations from all over the world. Brexit could well mark the beginning of the end of the EU.
Precisely why France WILL vote for LePen and subsequently out of the EU. leaving Germany to fund everything , that's providing their economy holds up that long.
Maybe then the remoaners will finally STFU.
Brexit means the new page of the UK.
...and then the bold delusions met the cold light of reality

We need our activities money . To trust the activities is needed. While we are not able now to do so due to lack of money
This is comical viewing it from 2023.
We should of just got out, end off,. Billions are just disappearing out of UK per year, i don't believe we should have a 2 year transition, EU have bleed us dry, and we have had to sacrifice many resources due to lack of money, brexit has had so much criticism from corbyn, he is quite happy for tax payers 💰 multiple billions just leaving UK and we not getting the benefits,. Teressa is playing safe, i don't like it, but I'd rather her then him.
She talk of unity .she not interested in the unity of uk only the Tory,
