I’m here because this is $1.99 in the eshop right now. Looks great. Looks just like the type of game I’ve been wanting to play! I like chill games. And I agree... the audio is great! Can’t wait to find some time to play this.

How rewarding/enjoyable is the farming aspect of this game in terms of level grinding, item drops and purchasable items?

The only thing that sort of bothers me about this game is the way it scales. None of the pixels seem to scale properly. Also, maybe one or two filtering options would have been a nice addition for a retro style game like this.

Stumbled here to see what others think of it as I've just started playing it yesterday. I'm really, really digging it. I love the whole affair.
Honestly I think the only thing I'm not happy with is its length. However, Dragon Boy felt a bit long in the tooth by the end so I'll take a shorter more charming game over a longer less charming one.

There is alot of retro games out there, but this one has caught my eye.
I need something more relaxed. I tried to play Shovel Knight with my son and... well... it was a challenge for him to play games I used to play, (I know I've said it before and I will say it again) kids today are soft.
To be objective, your thoughts on value mirrors what I was thinking. This looks like a must buy when a sale come around.

Kids are too soft
The looks are slightly deceiving in my opinion. This is not a walk in the park by any means, the puzzles can be quite challenging and while the combat may not be as difficult as say Megaman or Ghosts and Goblins, you do need to master a number of abilities and enemy patterns and do some rudimentary planning from time to time. It's a fantastic game, don't get me wrong, but don't expect your child to just breeze through the game effortlessly.

@@Smackosynthesis yeah I feel you. I actually bumped this one ahead in my list and didn't regret it. Easy to pick up and play, well paced, and not too long.
Out of the hundreds of thousands of videogame channel's you are definitely the best out there, simply, straight up no fanboyism and genuine gamers not just for a quick buck. I found your channel by mistake but as I stated last week I've hammered everything youve done now. Excellent example of how to be passionate without being cringey. Keep up the high standards!!!!

This game is so hard I bought it on sale cause I like modern styled 16but games and this game is almost impossible some points but like I can't put it down it looks so good and is so fun, also has a little puzzle and Zelda feel
It's really not hard at all, at least if you compare it to it's source of inspiration. It's extremely fair as it gives you infinite coins and xp to grind, and the bosses aren't too difficult. Keep at it and you'll be a 16bit hero in no time! :)

A little off topic, but you know what games I'd like to see on the switch? The adventure island series...or even a remake of adventure island would be interesting! I used to play that game non-stop as a kid. Did any one else enjoy that series??
Loved it, but my favorite was Super Adventure Island II. It wasn't anything like the others lol. It was more like Zelda 2
Looks interesting guys as some have said but my backlog is long so will wait for a sale. Plus I've enough platformers or castlevania types for now.

Just got this haven't heard of it before now but seemed ok hope it's good. I got a 35 card grabbed axiom.verge 2 n quake. Thus was on sale for like 3 bucks or somn and o had enough left on funds so figured why not
Same here today. I think it will be fun once I get into it. Probably will get other sales for about 0.49. Rare to see that then 1.99. More for me if I get them.

Im with you I just bought because metroidvania and and having a non souls difficulty not that a challenge is bad but sometimes I'd rather finish a game instead of getting to part that just frustrated the hell outa me like the snow area in the messenger....the fire boss in blasphemous the one in the little block room have turned me off but a easy mode is nice to just chill
Once I finish Steamworld Quest and Katana Zero, this one is definitely next on the list!

I'd say this is actually far closer to Master System level 8-bit visuas (and sound) than it is 16-bit SNES level.
Yeah, they describe it as 16 bit but it's definitely somewhere in the middle
Changed scoring categories!? Added story and combined audio n visuals, that a new consistent change jw? I was never really impressed with wonder boy so not really interested in this one either. Great review and game def looks vibrant as you said. I just bought a game called Tiny Hand Adventure on a 90% eShop sale only 79 cents plus I used gold coins so basically free haha looks like a crappier wanna be crash bandicoot only with a t Rex. Gunna get dragons dogma tomorrow too. Congrats on 30k
The categories change based on the game. Some don't need story scored as they aren't about that.

There are always 5x scores out of 20, but the categories can sometimes get changed around. Usually gameplay and controls are the two that end up being combined or possibly story doesn't receive a score but if there is enough of a reason to separately talk about all 3 of those, then at times audio/visuals can be combined instead. It's happened a couple times.

Just looking at base.com and looks like there is a physical version coming soon. Hmm. Think I'll spend the £15 for the physical for this. Haven't played it but it looks great. Kinda Metroidvania/Wonderboy mash up.

These types of games are perfect for handheld mode but, without a proper dpad on the upper left corner and a right joycon without an analog stick that gets in the way, it is very uncomfortable. Joycons with the WiiU lay out would be perfect
I agree with this. Personally I have found our joycons to be a bit finicky... the left analog stick will not even have to be touched and the characters will move on their own. I thought my old WiiU performed better and was more comfortable to hold. Still love my switch though.

I just got this as I found out that it is a metroidvania of sorts and I was happier than a pig in s**t that It wasn't stupid hard like most games like this releasing now like cybershadow or blasphemous I don't mind a challenge but sometimes I would rather just through the entire game without getting so mad or frustrated that I put the game down and yea I have to put some down because controllers are to much money to throw or even my switch because I really very rarely play in docked mode but I feel these developers did it rite by giving us a choice for difficulty

Welcome to SwitchUp, a place where you're guaranteed to hear "Story scores 14/20" in the first few minutes regardless of how good/bad it is or what game is being reviewed. Come to think of it, I'm fairly sure something scores "14/20" in EVERY review...where is that number calculated because it's used A LOT. Also "scores PROBABLY ABOUT xx/20" and I believe it was "scores AROUND xx/20" one time makes me think they just pull random numbers out of their ass. Next time on SwitchUp, "________ scores around xx/20 I guess, I dunno ask the other guy"...
