Phil. I’ve been turning for 8-9 years now. I stopped about a year ago because I was getting bored with round shapes. After watching you and your “odd” shapes I’ve been inspired to start turning again. And want to start making videos too. Keep it up sir. You are very talented!
😊

Although not your original plan, but as turners i believe the wood shows us what it wants to be and our job is to listen and create something that highlights the natural beauty that was hiding inside.

Agreed that wood will make most of our work look better ! But it's the artistry of knowing what to remove and how to present it that brings out the best in it , as you've just proved ! ❤

Olive wood is beautiful. The grain is outstanding. I worried as you kept turning the inside and I was saying Phil measure the bottom I thought he has to be close. Then you stopped and measured and I was able to breathe again. Nice looking bowl well worth the work for sure.

Thank you so much 😀
Ahhh, that grain! You were so right about the direction for turning! It's one of the problems with visual media: We can't yet touch the wood. Great stuff, Phil, and Happy New Year!
Yes! Thank you! 😊
Gorgeous wood, the olive tree is such a beautiful tree. Great bowl too!
Thank you! Cheers! 😊
An absolutely delightful bowl Phil. I don't recall if I have watched any of your other Olive turnings but even if I have I am now going to check them all out. As usual, a very considered piece with all the Phil Anderson considerations & sensitivity we have come to expect in your turning & in the production of your videos. I love that you decided to finish with the Howards Feed n Wax. I think it is such a brilliant product that gives fantastic results. Cheers my friend, Don from South Australia.
Agree, Feed & Wax was the right choice for this piece, Don. Thank you, I'm glad you like it! 😊

I Love turning Olive, the grain is second to non, Outstanding work as always Phil, I have only managed to turn a little Yew mouse over the Christmas Brake, but more will be done in the coming weeks. Stay Well
😊
Right on! I sell bowl blanks and I tell folks this is the bottom. 90% still cut it backwards. I cut crotch’s or forks into rounds the figure ids in the center they need to cut down to the figure, not cut it away
Exactly! Well, at least you tell them, Aubrey, what they do after that is their folly! 😊
Another gorgeous piece!
😊
Loved this one. I'm going to be turning a similar chunk today so this was good prep. Thanks!
Thanks for watching, Michael!

Howdy Phil. Another beautiful piece of work. I like your choice of the Howard's. It allows the natural beauty of the Olive wood to shine through without the literal shine of shellac. Thanks for the video and Happy New Year. Take care and keep turning. Bill Riley.
