Hey Phil, I'm doing taxes so I'm taking a break, and lo and behold a new video from you! Perfect timing! I can't say that you needed all of your "Phearless Phil" capabilities on this one, but you sure used your "Master of the Lathe" talents. It's a very nice project, and so relaxing to watch you work and narrate what you are doing. Thank you! Hope all is well with you, as for me, back to taxes. Blessings, Rick
"Quick and easy" in your hands maybe! - perhaps it would take a little longer for we mere mortals! Another lovely bowl, Phil, thank you for sharing; I look forward to your videos and have learned so much.
This a such a pretty little bowl! I love the knots and tight grain. This would be a perfect bowl to sit on a table or shelf by the front door to empty your pockets into! Thanks, Phil!❤
Giving such bowls is as much satisfying as turning them. I believe giving is as much addictive as turning (let's think about that for a while) lol. Best, Serge
The bowl is pretty as can be! And no problems, wow! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Will Shorty Gouge be forced into retirement? He must have participated in the creation of many beautiful pieces and could tell some tales about the workshop. 😊
I know I haven't seen all your videos, Phil, but i don't think you have ever turned anything that I wouldn't want to keep. Above that, I wish I had your Talent and patience and could do it myself. Thanks from UK for some very interesting and "watchable" videos.
Everyone deserves a treat now and then! This is one of those times I guess especially after the last challenge. It looks lovely and I’m sure feels like a million bucks! Cheers, Rick
Bonjour Phil. Comme de nombreux apprentis tourneur je regarde avec délice votre technique et approche du bois. 👍C'est toujours un plaisir de vous voir en action pour de superbes réalisations .Merci de nous faire partager ce délicieux moment.
Well that was fun Phil Dang 20 minutes. Shoot in the shape I am in I would be happy with 4 days LOL. Lot of fun watching this one come to shape. See you soon my friend, Gary
What a cute little dish Phil . I find these little and quick projects a real treat to turn and finish . Like you said , 15-20 minutes and done . Great job Phil . Have a great weekend .
You bloody ripper Phill just perfect gift idea. Love the spiraling ribbons, one day gunna turn a LARGER POTATO and have me some curly frys. Take care Phill and KEEP THE DREAM ALIVE SON .Aussie Aussie Aussie GDAY MATE from brisbane Australia
Hi Phil Quick and easy is sometimes a nice break from the ones that only turn with a fight. Jelly bean bowl for me also like the knot, breaks up the simple grain pattern. Take care bob
Good seeing you today Phil. Always enjoy the time I spend watching and listening to you. The dish is fantastic and even though Laurel might not be the most exciting grain it is very elegant looking wood. Good job, as usual. Keep on keeping on my friend.
The sheer plainness of this piece helps to make it attractive. This could be anything, or hold anything, or be displayed in any room. Heck, it could even be somewhat utilitarian or purely decorative. I like to imagine it holding a bright, colorful potpourri. I would imagine that yes, it would make a great 'thank you' gift or a hostess gift.
Ah the stubby gouge. Love the bowl. Looks so good and looks like that laural turned so easily. I happen to like the corrected name much better by the way. Well done Phil! A joy to watch
Actually, I have to correct my identification of the wood. It's laurel, but not European! It's actually an American native called North Carolina cherry laurel. The trees grow to huge, majestic shade trees. Now, back to the video.
@@valeriehenschel1590 I've got more! Found some right here in McMinnville at the Recology yard waste dump. I swear, wood finds me, even when I'm not looking.
With a gouge used in the normal manner, the tip cuts the wood. Used on it's side, it scrapes the wood. Cutting is better but even so, sometimes you have to scrape to remove small imperfections. 😊
🙋♂️🏴 Hi Phil im glad I read some of the comments because I was going to say how good European's are but it turns out it's American, never mind no fear of poisoning this week. Phil another brilliant video thanks so much for all the work you put in each week.
It is a lovely little bowl. And actually, the Laural is very pretty. Sometimes, a bland piece of wood can show off its unique beauty just by being "bland." The bark is gorgeous.
Thank You Phil, Thank You Dave from Calmwood Creations...HA "check their woodpile you never know what you're going to find" ya got that right Phil!!!... until next time... TM
Phil, I recommend you watch your videos. Forget who the artist is and enjoy the process. This is most relaxing and enjoyable to watch. Art in the making. Thank you very much!
After blowing a hole in the bottom of a 18" bowl the other day while removing the tenon.....I think I would like to turn a quick and easy bowl. Great job Phil.
Lovely! Just right for a dresser-top hold-all bowl. Art pieces seem to me to be display only, because I wouldn’t want to scratch them, but a beautiful little bowl like this calls out to be used and touched every day. 🤩
What a heck of a nice little piece of turning. As you point out, it is a good size for a small gift or a craft stall but also a good size for someone just feeling their way in wood turning. A great result mate I think it is delightful. Great finish as always with Howards Feed & Wax. You know my thoughts on this as a 'finish'. Thanks for sharing this one. Stay fit & well my friend, Cheers, Don from South Aust.
That was a quick video. None the less an amazing bowl. I went to a local store that does classes and completed my first bowl this past weekend. Even though I have been turning for a few years now. I really enjoyed the class now gotta put in some work at home to make more. Keep up the amazing work. 👽
It's a lovely bowl! I's good to get back to your workshop. I've been doing other creative stuff, like making jam, for the last few weeks. There's been a bumper fruit harvest, in our neighbourhood...but the wood calls me back!
Now that is a beautiful bowl! Wow! Sometimes the simplest wood makes the best bowls!
I totally agree! 😄
Quick and easy, but also very lovely. This is exactly the size for M & Ms.
😊

Oh, man, I'm putting mine off till April, Rick! 😊
The knots give it that nice punch of character.
😊
It doesn't matter to most of us if it's easy or not. We just enjoy watching your art.
😊
"Quick and easy" in your hands maybe! - perhaps it would take a little longer for we mere mortals! Another lovely bowl, Phil, thank you for sharing; I look forward to your videos and have learned so much.
Many thanks! 😊
Love the contrast of the smooth, dark bark against the pale wood.
Always my favorite part, Toni! 😊
It's nice to turn one that isn't a challenge piece ..it turned out very nice phil..
😊
Very nice natural edge bowl, Phil. Excellent video!! 😎😎
Take care,
…..Gord
Thanks, Gord, you too, buddy! 😊
It’s a beauty Phil, complete with gorgeous live edge and cool knot. Thanks for the great video. I look forward to your magic every week!
Glad you enjoyed it, Susanne, thank you! 😊
This a such a pretty little bowl! I love the knots and tight grain. This would be a perfect bowl to sit on a table or shelf by the front door to empty your pockets into!
Thanks, Phil!❤
Yup, great for that, Texana! 😊

😊
The bowl is pretty as can be! And no problems, wow! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Will Shorty Gouge be forced into retirement? He must have participated in the creation of many beautiful pieces and could tell some tales about the workshop. 😊
Yeah, it's getting real close to retirement time for the little guy. 😊
Very nice little piece! Who knows what little gem hides in a piece of wood?
😊
I know I haven't seen all your videos, Phil, but i don't think you have ever turned anything that I wouldn't want to keep. Above that, I wish I had your Talent and patience and could do it myself. Thanks from UK for some very interesting and "watchable" videos.
It's a "learned" talent, Cliff, not something I was born with. Many, many hours of practice and fail to get to this point. 😊
Really a beautiful bowl Phil! I'm envious of the varieties of wood you get to turn
I'm a very fortunate guy, David! 😊
Nice looking,❤️ little bowl !
😊
Отличная работа Фил. Сучки на заготовке, это определённая красота в изделии. Отличная работа. Спасибо за видео.

It was just so much fun, Gary! Turning at high speeds is like taking a vacation! 😊
What a cute little dish Phil . I find these little and quick projects a real treat to turn and finish . Like you said , 15-20 minutes and done . Great job Phil . Have a great weekend .
😊
Sometimes simple ones are the best, well done.
😊
First! Nothing like a turn that goes without hassles. Sweet. Thanks Dave!
You got that right! 😊
Beautiful work Phil. Simple, quick, and easy but still wonderful.
Thank you, Clyde! 😊
Phil, what a smashing wee live edge bowl it turned out really lovely, great job.
😊
You bloody ripper Phill just perfect gift idea. Love the spiraling ribbons, one day gunna turn a LARGER POTATO and have me some curly frys. Take care Phill and KEEP THE DREAM ALIVE SON .Aussie Aussie Aussie GDAY MATE from brisbane Australia
Oh, I love curly fries and have a special electric cutter for them! 😊
Quick but a joy to watch Phil, thank you. Graham UK

Thank you, Kathy, for spending some of your time with me, I truly appreciate that! 😊
Another gorgeous piece Phil. As always your work is stunning.

Thank you, Carl! 😊
Hi Phil Quick and easy is sometimes a nice break from the ones that only turn with a fight. Jelly bean bowl for me also like the knot, breaks up the simple grain pattern.

Joel
So much more fun to turn at high speed, Joel! 😊
You know what I see Phil? A nice M&M bowl. 😊 Very lovely bowl.
Yup, perfect, Laura! 😊
Nice simple bowl. See the sad face on the bottom? Should be happy, it was formed into something beautiful. Lol. Have a good weekend Phil. Stay dry
😊
Good seeing you today Phil. Always enjoy the time I spend watching and listening to you.
The dish is fantastic and even though Laurel might not be the most exciting grain it is very elegant looking wood. Good job, as usual.

😊

Thanks Steve! 😊

Was wondering!
@@valeriehenschel1590 I've got more! Found some right here in McMinnville at the Recology yard waste dump. I swear, wood finds me, even when I'm not looking.
Beautiful work Phil I have a question to ask what is the difference between scraping and turning since I never have done any wood work myself
Thanks, Dave! 😊
With a gouge used in the normal manner, the tip cuts the wood. Used on it's side, it scrapes the wood. Cutting is better but even so, sometimes you have to scrape to remove small imperfections. 😊
Hi Phil, love it too. Simple, quick, and elegant. Love the feed and wax grain pop. Thank you Phil, see ya Dan.
Cool, thanks, Dan! 😊
Quick, simple, but beautiful.
😊
Looked a bit plain and ordinary before turning quite a bit to see when finished, always pleasing when that happens, good job Phil. 😁
Thank you, Lewis! 😊
Very nice little bowl. That's how I wish my turnings went! Thx and take care.
Just takes a little practice. Thank you for watching! 😊
I really love that thin edge. Really highlites the bowl
Thanks, Earl! 😊
I can almost feel the smoothness. I love using Howards, it is usually my go to finish.
Good stuff, Keith! 😊
🙋♂️🏴 Hi Phil im glad I read some of the comments because I was going to say how good European's are but it turns out it's American, never mind no fear of poisoning this week. Phil another brilliant video thanks so much for all the work you put in each week.
Thank you, John! 😊
Thank you, Phil! What a delight to watch an artist create such a lovely piece with joy and enthusiasm. Have a great week.
Thanks for watching! 😊
Nice little bowl quick and easy, now back to my nap
😊
Wow! It’s amazing what you can bring out of such a small piece of wood, Phil. I need to find myself one of those scrapers too. What a tool!
They are handy! 😊
Easy peasy, Phil. That feed n wax really brought out the colour of the grain. Very nice.
😊
Easy peasy ….. easier than the burl a few weeks ago!! You probably are still recovering from that monster!!
Yup, that's why the easy peasy variety! 😊
Lovey bowl. Seems this is the week for live/natural edge bowls. They do draw interest. Well done.
Thank you very much, Doug! 😊
Beautiful it's beautiful
Thank you! 😊
Cute little thing. Amazing what can be done with a piece of scrap wood.
😊
It might have been pretty uniform grain but the tree rings still gave it some visual interest.
😊
That is a beauti, nice little dush.
😀
That is a beautiful natural edge bowl and such an easy one to turn! The wood is beautiful too, well done and thanks!
Cheers Al
Thank you, Al! 😊
A very nice little dish. The way the bark stayed on is amazing. Thanks Phil
Thanks for watching, Jean! 😊

Very nice little bowl. The shape is really good and the figure in the wood and that knot add interest. Really like the bark, it's a nice highlight.

That's what I thought, Ron! 😊
Beautiful Phil, ❤️ as you said it's silky smooth 👌 😎 Gerry 😊
Thanks, Gerry! 😊
Lovely! Just right for a dresser-top hold-all bowl. Art pieces seem to me to be display only, because I wouldn’t want to scratch them, but a beautiful little bowl like this calls out to be used and touched every day. 🤩
Exactly! 😊
Nice piece this time with a really nice thin wall. Looks really good, I love light, thin wall pieces, they just feel good, well done Phil.

I'm well, Don, not too sure about fit! LOL! Yes, this is a good starter piece, too! Thank you, my friend! 😊

That is awesome! That first bowl is always a little intimidating but so gratifying when you have finished it. Congratulations! 😊
Now that did turn out really nice - didn't really mean to play with words, but that fit pretty well. Nice gentle bowl sir!
Thank you, Liz! 😊
Hi Phil. Nice quick one. 👍😊 beautiful live edge bowl. 😊😊😊
Thank you so much 😊
It's a lovely bowl! I's good to get back to your workshop. I've been doing other creative stuff, like making jam, for the last few weeks. There's been a bumper fruit harvest, in our neighbourhood...but the wood calls me back!
Oh, you must be in the south, Stephanie! No fruit around here for a few months, yet! I love jam! Raspberry in particular! YUM! 😊
Phil Thank You Howard and Susie
You're welcome, thanks for watching! 😊
Swift and gorgeous . ❤
😊
That really is very pretty, Maestro. I never considered laurel to be a 'pretty' wood. But I like it! Might have to find some.
Keep rockin sir!
Jay
Go for it, Jay, easy to turn! 😊
Mr Phil, you sir have an amazing insight into what/how a 'plain' old piece of wood can be made into a beautiful piece of artwork. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you, Mike! 😊
Easy peazy! Very nice. Thanks Phil!
😊
Looks great, looks smooth as glass. It’s very relaxing when it’s an easy one.
