    i just look at this as a "professional" NES. if pioneer still sells professional DJ CD players for $2,000 a pop i don't really think the pricepoint on the NT mini is too high at $450. it's definitely not for the casual market at all, though. only hardcore NES collectors and tech geeks are gonna buy this thing.

    Placed my pre-order for the Analog Nt Mini (v2) Noir yesterday. I’m happy I was able to get in on the final run and not have to pay the ridiculous eBay prices. I’m also hoping they are able to add interpolation to this version. Would like to hear your thought on this release.

    • @mylifeingaming
      @mylifeingaming  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      [Try4ce] I suspect we will not be able to get one. Unfortunately, I'm doubtful that the hardware will be tangibly different, so I'm not expecting interpolation. But it's a great and very handy machine regardless.

    • @SIPEROTH

      @@mylifeingaming So you suspect there will be no improvements in any aspect whether hardware or software with the V2 version?

    • @mylifeingaming
      @mylifeingaming  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      [Try4ce] They say the NES cart slot is improved (this was needed, the original fails to read them often) but aside from that I'm not expecting changes that impact possible features. They did say the menu would be different, though. My guess isn't really based on anything, but I would be absolutely shocked if interpolation were added.

I had black letterbox bars in NES games and your explanation cleared this up for me, I followed your advice and turned on integer scaling and set scaling to 5x 6x. Before this I got rid of the bars by setting it to 4:3 but this gave me a headache when playing. Thank you so much

    This video will be viewed a lot again in 2020 due to the final run of the Nt Mini. Did you guys figure out what was wrong with your FDSStick/RAM adapter? Apparently it wasn't supposed to have the issues you mentioned here. Also, if you ever do a follow up after the last run, I'd suggest giving a bit more attention to the S-video output on a good CRT like a PVM. That is a very unique and interesting feature not available anywhere else, as it gets its colors directly from the emulated PPU like composite, completely removing the color palette guesswork and compromises, but providing a level of clarity reasonably close to RGB at the same time!

    Coury and Tr4yce I think the Armored Core series would be right up your alley. Take everything great about Omega Boost and add more tactical elements and you have a series you think wouldn't be made by a developer like From Software. Another thing worth featuring is the HDFury, an HDMI to component adapter designed for HD CRTs which I think you should try out on stuff like the N64 Ultra HDMI.

    I invested some money into a FPGA machine, the Mist, and after a while the updates stopped happening. So the concept is great, but the machines are highly dependent on the people programming FPGA, and they are much less of them around vs emulator programmers.

    • @mylifeingaming
      @mylifeingaming  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +PhilsComputerLab [Try4ce] I've been curious about the MIST for the old PC systems. Would you say those cores are mature enough to be accurate and reliable even without further updates?

    • @philscomputerlab
      @philscomputerlab 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The cores I spent the most time with are the Amiga and C64. They do work, but there are compatibility issues if you try enough games and especially demos. The games that work, are awesome though. It outputs PC VGA, and if you cnnect a PC CRT, the image is very nice indeed.

    Great video. I'm thinking that if the Nt Mini does all this it's basically a hardware emulator for every 8-bit system + NES and Famicom cartridge slots + an Everdrive for every 8-bit system + 8bitdo wireless include + HDMI and RGB = it's actually a pretty good value (from a certain perspective). Putting together something else that can do all that would cost more than $450.

    The fact that FPGA board inside Analogue NT mini can simulate various emulator cores by installing jailbroken software update is mind-blown! I would like to see emulator cores for PC-Engine, Wonderswan, NeoGeo Pocket and others (not sure for Amstrad G4000 and Nokia N-Gage though) to run on this console. Kevtris, make it happen.

    This question is more for Coury. I just started getting into the retro gaming scene. Luckily I have saved most of my hardware since I was a kid and I got a free PVM from work. As someone who would only use this system for NES/famicom/SMS and the news that Kevtris will be working at Analogue full time. Would you recommend buying this all in one system or paying someone to mod an NES, buying a Framemeister, SCART cables, and a NES Everdrive ?
    Currently the second option is ~$700 usd which is even more than the analouge but you can use the Framemeister for other systems as well. I will probably only have an NES/Genesis/SNES/PS1.

    Great review of the NT Mini, but small correction on something said in the closing comments. This isn't the first multi-console FPGA system. That would be the MiST released a few years earlier and which has cores for 25+ consoles and computer systems. It was preceded by the Amiga 500-specific Minimig and that core is probably regarded as its main configuration. It currently supports the Amiga, ZX Spectrum, Apple II, C64, NES, Gameboy, PC Engine, Colecovision, various Atari systems and others. An early beta Genesis core was just released and looks promising.
    Some MiST cores are further along and better than others and it doesn't have HDMI out or 720p+ resolutions, but it's still worth mentioning. It's a solid FPGA system around the price of the AVS.

    is this that bad of a value proposition? if I wanted to mod my NES, wouldn't it still cost me upwards of $300? And that's dealing with my old NES with its shoddy connectors and all that. Maybe I'll get something like this after I make my first million...

    • @brickman409
      @brickman409 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      True, but you also need to consider that Retro USB's AVS cost lest than half the price of the Analogue NT mini and they're both pretty much the same thing.

    • @crayelliott4894
      @crayelliott4894 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Lassi Kinnunen sure, if you don't mind tacking on another 120$ for a flash cart and not having perfect compatibility. the AVS has known compatibility issues and the betas only trade some problems for other problems.
      the NT mini has analog video output, way, way more comprehensive sound and video options, perfect compatibility (even my fdsstick works), the digital expansion sound options for Roms, and direct ROM loading with more compatibility than the Everdrive and Powerpak. and on top of that there are 8 entire other consoles this thing can currently play with mapper support for all the commercially supported games out of the box.

    • @crayelliott4894
      @crayelliott4894 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it's not even a contest... the AVS is more affordable but gives a fraction of the functionality

    • @brickman409
      @brickman409 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Cray Elliott
      okay, but this guy is comparing it to HDMI modding your NES, which you wouldn't get any of that stuff with just an HDMI mod. If all you want to do is play you NES games in HD with perfect compatibility(I don't know what the hell you were talking about) then the AVS is a pretty solid choice, Even if you add the cost of a flash cart on top of the AVS it's still quite a bit cheaper than the Analogue NT.

    • @crayelliott4894
      @crayelliott4894 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gradius 2 crashes. Xexyz crashes. Holy Diver has issues in stage 4/5, no green stripe carts work. Issues with repro carts. Issues with the everdrive n8 on the newer betas. Even krikzz has stated that the console does not work like a real nes.
      Beyond that there's physical incompatibilities like no light gun support and no microphone support.
      Sure many of these could be addressed by a firmware update but it's been pretty slow so far.

    I'm sure you guys probably know this but if you don't, try cleaning your carts with "Brasso". I've been using it for years. It works much better with q-tips than alcohol. It a metal polish and works great!

    • @guspaz
      @guspaz 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Brasso should never be used on cartridge contacts because it leaves a varnish that can't really be cleaned off, and that stuff gets into the cartridge slot and gunks it up. If you do want to use an abrasive cleaning method (which is what brasso does), then there are much safer alternatives that go beyond what a q-tip and alcohol will do. The first step beyond the q-tip should probably be a soft eraser (I like to use a white Staedtler eraser, never use the rear of a pencil since the metal can scratch the pins). Beyond that there are more aggressive approaches, but those are for a last resort only.

    • @quadracer392
      @quadracer392 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your right brasso is a mild abrasive cleaner and shouldn't be used in every situation, but it does the opposite of what your saying. It removes the tarnish that builds up on the copper pins on the cartridge. That's why the games quit working. That greenish/black stuff that comes off on your q-tip is the tarnish from the copper pins. You'd have to clean the cart 100's of times very aggressively to wear the copper plating off the pins on the cart. Brasso is designed to clean that tarnish off. It's not just for brass as the name implies, it's for multiple types of metals. As for gunking up the cartridge slot you'd have to be pretty sloppy with it and not clean off completely to do that. Everyone has their preferred method for cleaning carts. I've been using it for well over 10 years to clean carts and I've never had an issue with it.

    • @quadracer392
      @quadracer392 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I looked up the DeOxit because I'd never heard of it before. After doing some reading from the company's website it essentially does the same thing as the metal polish except uses a chemical reaction to clean instead of an abrasive. WIth both methods you are still taking the tarnish off the pins. As far as being specifically designed for electronics, a company can label anything like that. I can do some testing at my job and tell you if brasso is safe for electronics.
      Contrary to it's name Brasso is actually for several types of metals not just brass. It's good for Aluminum, Brass, Bronze, Chrome, Copper(which is what the pins are on a NES cart), Pewter, and Stainless

    • @RickyRicardo135
      @RickyRicardo135 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I consider myself a purist when it comes to playing my games on original hardware but even I dont mind removing a tiny layer of metal on my NES games pins. I use a product called Mothers Mag & Aluminum Polish which is similar to brasso on all my games and I can say it does wonders on cleaning the pins. Ive cleaned all my games with it and ive never destroyed any games using it. I only use a tiny amount, enough to remove all corrosion and grime, all games play perfect on first try, never had to blow on my cartridges or use alcohol & qtip. I honestly dont understand why people assume these products will destroy the games unless of course u put too much and then scrub the hell out of the pins. The analogue nt mini is along it's mind blowing features and a jail breaked firmware to play other console games, just the best system in the world.
    I am still fine with emulators aslong they are perfect as possible but for what you say, yes i do agree that there might be a slight latency due a conversion process so that light gun games become unplayible via the light gun,(maybe with a quantum computer in the near future ) but time will tell.

      [Try4ce] Wai Wai World 2. As for Super Dodge Ball, not sure. I know that game has a ton of flicker, but maybe it's hard coded into it if it doesn't fix it? Just guessing, but if I recall, it's a 30fps game, so it might behave differently from most NES games.

      i agree with fonarte no point, none of the supposed new stocks have arrived in shops, at this point i dont think they ever will my view is that the hack has killed the classic, maybe the hackers should have sat on it for a while, i will bet that if ver2 ever hits shelves the firmware will be locked up tight and usb will be missing or disabled.
      i gave up on mine put it back stock and sold it on ebay, i will continue building small board retro systems, i wont waste time developing mods and such for a niche system.
      i might be wrong nintendo may release another batch of them but i doubt it, sad really scalpers win again.

    You should compare to Wii2HDMI as there are many users of that. I also just found out that my Wii2HDMI has a pin hole to change the signal to 1920 x 1080p. Been using it for a couple of years nearly and never checked it. Anyways, it looks great on my TV but I haven't captured footage yet to see if it's beyond an upscaled 480p. It's great for gamecube games and even a softmod WiiU with Nintendont is a viable option for GCN as well. Worth looking into.

    So which FPGA based NES system would you guys suggest for someone who wants their NES games to look good on an HDTV, and therefore has no desire to play the handful of lightgun games?

    • @mylifeingaming
      @mylifeingaming  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +videogameobsession [Try4ce] The AVS seems pretty great to us, we ran into no real issues with it. If the jailbreak aspect of Nt mini isn't interesting to you, and you only need HDMI, then the AVS is a fairly affordable option. Just remember it's 720p only, but still looks pretty dang sharp. I like both systems.

    • @videogameobsession
      @videogameobsession 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the reply,
      I actually own the AVS, and agree, it is pretty great, but was curious on your stance after playing both.
      The jailbreaking and system cores are very interesting to me, and if it had a way to play original cartridges for the system cores I would probably not be able to stop myself from buying one! I also have an Everdrive N8 so I have that in case I need access to homebrew and hacks.

    • @mylifeingaming
      @mylifeingaming  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      [Try4ce] I would suggest going for the AVS as a more affordable alternative. The lack of pixel scaling interpolation on the Nt mini really hurts it in my opinion. The later Nt mini Noir has interpolation and other features more in line with the Super Nt and Mega SG, but I'm sure is even more expensive. AVS is only 720p, but it does have horizontal interpolation. And if you later pair up these devices with a HDMI-equipped 4K scaler, 720p and 1080p can be functionally the same with the right settings.

    • @JGRICH61
      @JGRICH61 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@mylifeingaming Tks mate. I’ll have to consider a AVS. I’m also going to take a stab at different emulation on an NES mini via hackchi to see what kind of results I can get. I hate that seizure control strobing effect they implemented.

    fpga mist simulates all these cores and more like pc engine and computers (amiga,C64,amstrad cpc...) for less than half price.

    The extra system cores is a nice perk, but without actual cart ports it doesn't really excite me. What does excite me is Kevin Hkrtons's upcoming Zimba 3000 FGPA multi-core 8/16-bit console. I have a strong feeling it's going to blow this out of the water! Until then I have my AVS which I'm very happy with.

    • @padriac6127
      @padriac6127 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      videogameobsession yeah, the Zimba will be cool. This thing is basically the beta version of the Zimba 3000 + a really nice NES/famicom player. A taste of the future. I think it's going to be years before the actual Zimba.

    • @Charlie97L
      @Charlie97L 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      videogameobsession I wouldn't call it upcoming, man, he's been working on it for years, and I imagine it'll be another 5 at least (sheesh if even then) before it sees any kind of release. It's his pet project, not really a priority.

    • @videogameobsession
      @videogameobsession 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, maybe not the Zimba per say, but we will certainty see a muticore console with support for many classic, 8bit, and 16bit consoles in the very near future. It seems like Kevin Horton may wish to license his cores out to other projects. Perhaps maybe with a company which has a lot of experience on the retail side of things, such as with Hyperkin, for example. Then he could just focus on the cores.
      I'm not sure if Retroblox is taking th FPGA + cores approach either. They are said to be using FPGA + emulation. If nothing else, this might motivwte Kevin to finish up his system a bit faster as if he waits too long there will be little reason to release it.
      I've watched many of his video blogs and read his posts on Atariage about the Zimba and it sounds like it may be much futher into production than he is letting on. Who knows... Either way FPGA is here to stay and thats a good thing for gamers.
